Episode Details
A very strange beginning to this episode. The colours are distorted and we appear to be in a dream sequence. The camera moves around a corridor inside Wentworth and stops at the gates and cell doors as the inmates and staff show off their biggest smile. [ ] Doreen is seen standing at the end of the corridor clutching her teddy bear shouting for "Mum".
Of course, it is a dream and Mum wakes up in bed at her daughter and son-in-law's house. Ron and Lorraine explain to Mum that they have told the children that she's their aunt Violet, not their grandmother. Lorraine says that the children were brought up to believe that Mum was dead. Ron tells Mum that she has to rest and that they will look after her properly. Mum is introduced to her 'niece and nephew' Judith-Anne and Andrew.
Meg sees that Lynn is still on her hunger strike. Lynn again protests her innocence but Meg tells her that she's as guilty as the rest of the women in the prison and that she'll 'eat when she's hungry'.
Franky interrupts Lizzie and some of the other girls who are in the Recroom playing cards. She makes Lizzie get out of the seat which Franky says is her's. Lizzie reluctantly moves. Franky taunts Karen about when she first arrived and caused Franky to be sent to solitary. Karen tells her that she's not afraid of her. Meg comes in to break up the disagreement.
Judith-Anne brings her 'Aunt' a cup of tea in bed. Mum nearly lets on that she's her Grandmother but manages to stop before she says too much. They talk about what Judith-Anne is up to and what she wants to do when she's older. Lorraine comes in just in time to stop the two of them talking any more. She tells Mum that the children won't bother her again.
The women are in the Recroom at a waltz class. The woman playing the piano looks straight at the camera as it moves past her [ ] but nobody seems to mind. The dance teacher keeps counting '1,2,3, 1,2,3' totally out of time with the music which is possibly the reason why the women can't get it quite right. Doreen is chosen to dance with the teacher in front of the other women to show them how it's done, much to her own disappointment.
Eddie is talking to the Governor and advises that he has to re-wire certain parts of the prison. He is told that he is not to get involved with any of the women and he's to stay in the area he's assigned to.
Back in the Recroom, Franky asks Karen if she can dance with her but Bea tells Franky to piss off. During their dance, Franky kicks Bea up the backside as she's dancing with Lizzie. Bea kicks Franky over in response. Karen has a flashback of when Franky went wild in the dining room before the riot and runs out. Bea smirks at Franky and continues to dance with lizzie.
Karen is found by Dr Miller in the corridor but runs outside and talks to Lynn in the garden. Karen tells Lynn that a hunger strike is going to get her nowhere.
Marilyn goes to the Laundry room to see Eddie, who is wearing a very tight green t-shirt. They have a bit of a cuddle and Marilyn tells Eddie that they have to be careful and she doesn't want to end up pregnant. She goes to see the doctor who examines her and tells her that there's nothing wrong with her again. She asks the doctor if she can be put back on the pill but he refuses and tells her that she and Eddie must be discreet.
Lynn is continuing to dig the garden outside. She starts digging up some of the grass next to the fence.
Dr Miller is examining Karen and prescribes some tablets to help her sleep. He says that her symptoms of being tired and alone are normal and that everyone goes through the same process before they fully settle in. He tells Karen to relax on the couch for half an hour while he's off to speak to the governor.
Karen starts to dream and we see the second dream sequence of the episode. Her and Greg are out in the countryside enjoying eachother's company and kissing. We hear Karen telling Greg that she's in love with someone else, then we see Karen's husband slapping her when he finds out she's pregnant. We see Karen talking to the local priest who tells her she would be committing murder if she had an abortion. We then see her answer the door to the police, who she has called after stabbing her husband. They go upstairs to find his body in the shower. Karen admits to killing her husband and she's arrested by the police.
Meanwhile back in the garden, Lynn is continuing to dig her way under the prison fence but isn't getting very far.
Bea is reading Doreen's tea leaves in one of the cells. She tells Doreen that she's not doing herself any favours siding with Franky Doyle. She says she could 'end up the way she was 3 months ago' if she's not careful. Bea reads Marilyn's tea leaves and tells her that she'll end up with a bun in the oven if she doesn't behave herself.
Karen wakes up after her dream and goes back to the cells. Eddie comes into the surgery to fix a switch. He says that a lot of the wiring was done in the war and is rotting already. Greg warns Eddie that him and Marilyn are running a huge risk. Lizzie comes into the surgery with a cup of tea for the doctor. She notices a bottle of surgical spirit next to the medicine cabinet. The phone rings and Lizzie takes the opportunity to switch the bottle with another one she has brought in. There's a commotion from outside the room so Greg goes out to see what's happening. Marilyn is being brought in and is accused of pushing drugs in the prison with Officer Yates. At this point Erica comes in and gets her to hand the drugs over, which she does. It turns out that they aren't drugs as such, they are in fact contraceptives.
Marilyn is brought into the Governor's office and questioned. Officer Yates is also questioned and denies that she's been pushing drugs in the prison. She is suspended until a full enquiry is held. She tells Mrs Davidson that she doesn't want to work in 'a hole like this' so resigns and leaves the room. Erica tells Meg that she's no longer prepared to support Meg as she's changed since Bill was murdered. She delivers an ultimatum to Meg and gives her a week for things to improve otherwise her job will be in jeopardy.
Back outside, Lynn is STILL digging her way out. Karen comes out and Lynn tells her she's going to escape.
Mum is now out of bed and dressed. She asks Lorraine if she'd like any help preparing the evening meal but Lorraine doesn't want any help. When asked how long she is going to be staying for, Mum is told that it was Ron's decision to allow her to stay and that Lorraine doesn't really want her there. She wants Mum out of their lives. She is still bitter about Mum killing her father.
Lizzie has been drinking the surgical spirit in her cell and is becoming a little tipsy.
Bea tells Marilyn how silly she's been. She finds out that Marilyn still has some of the contraceptives so can still be careful with Eddie.
Ron tells Lorraine that he wants the children to know the truth about Mum. Mum comes in and tells them both that it doesn't matter as she's found somewhere else to live. Obviously a lie, Mum goes to pack her things.
Lynn has finally been caught by officers Bennett and Jackson trying to escape. Meg tells her that even if she had got under that fence there are three more to go. She runs off but falls and knocks herself out.
Lorraine is talking to Mum about her leaving and accidentally calls her 'Mum' but doesn't realise that Judith-Ann has heard her say it. Mum leaves and Judith-Anne asks Lorraine for an explanation - which she doesn't get.
Mum gets out of a taxi and arrives at a jewellers store.
Judith-Anne can't understand why her mother lied to her. She isn't convinced. There's a knock at the front door - Mum's parole officer arrives. He tells her that Mum has been arrested for shop-lifting.
Lynn is in the doctor's surgery. Greg tells her that she needs to start eating again, otherwise she will lose her baby. Lynn is shocked to find out that she's pregnant. She tells Meg that the only person's it could be is the man who raped her.
