Episode Details
Marilyn is putting the pieces of the pimp's card together when she hears Eddie arrive home from work. She hides it as he walks in. He asks her how the job hunting is going and she tells him it isn't as the agencies aren't interested in anyone who has been in prison. She tells him she might as well forget looking for a job and to her surprise he agrees. He tells her he will look after her but she tells him she needs to do something. Eddie tells her she is going about it all wrong and that she needs to use the direct approach; he has been working at the Monarch Hotel and knows that there is a job going there as he witnessed one of the girls being sacked. She agrees to go over and see about getting the job and thanks Eddie for looking after her. She offers to make Eddie a sandwich for his lunch and whilst doing so he shows her a card [ ] that Bea has made him for his birthday. She isn't happy as he didn't tell her it was his birthday, he tells her it isn't for a couple of days and Bea had got in early. Marilyn still isn't happy.
Meanwhile, Lizzie, Bea, Doreen and Karen are sat round the TV set. Lizzie tells Doreen that her idea of faking amnesia was a silly one. Doreen blames Lizzie's acting. Bea tells them to be quiet and listens to Helen Masters being interviewed with her executive Mr Brandon. Helen is in the cosmetics trade and is opening a new branch of her company in Australia. The TV set is then turned off, much to Bea's annoyance just as Lyn walks in. Bea asks her why Franky is acting so nice all of a sudden and Lyn claims not to know anything. Bea puts pressure on her by threatening to burn her hand in the press if she doesn't say anything. Lyn retaliates by telling her that Franky would kill her if she said anything, to which Bea replies that they would do the same.
Doug is watching Franky trying to dig a hole in the garden as Bea and Doreen bring a cup of tea out to Mrs Jackson. Bea and Doreen walk behind Franky and Bea starts to tell her a fairy story about Franky and her brother hoping to run a farm. It doesn't have a happy ending and Franky storms off as Doreen laughs. Franky requests to Mrs Jackson to see the governor.
Franky asks Mrs Davidson [ ] to put her back in the laundry. The governor doesn't think it's a good idea but agrees anyway and reminds Franky of what will happen if she steps out of line. Franky leaves and Meg asks Erica if she has heard anything from the police. Erica believes that Meg thinks Lynn is innocent.
Doreen and Lizzie are in the laundry with a few other women, putting bets on how they think it will be before Franky misbehaves again, just as Franky herself walks in. Franky threatens Doreen and then taunts Karen who pricks her with the needle she is using for her sewing.
Marilyn is being shown around the kitchens of the Monarch Hotel by the manager. Marilyn accepts his offer of a job and he also offers her a job in room service. It's clear he is attracted to her. She is then seen delivering champagne to Helen Masters room, she is arguing with Mr Brandon about their latest ad campaign. She walks in and tries in vain to open the bottle of champagne. Helen isn't impressed and Marilyn explains that it's her first day. She insults Helen who then asks Mr Brandon to get her name and report her to the manager, then storms off to her room.
Mr Brandon asks for her name and Marilyn gives it but pleads with him not to tell anyone as it's her first day and she needs the money. He agrees whilst opening the champagne and tells Marilyn that he will speak to Helen.
Vera is at home, she calls the prison and asks the secretary if Dr Miller has left. He is in reception and the time and is asked if he will speak to Vera. He does so and she invites him over for a meal later that night. He explains that he can't as he is tied up with work but agrees to another time. She apologises and puts the phone down.
Helen and Mr Brandon are in their room. She orders him to fill up her glass after he protests that she has had enough. He does so and then gets upset with her as she has reported Marilyn to the management, after he told her she wouldn't. Helen says that she deserved to be reported as she was incompetent and rude. Mr Brandon defends Marilyn by explaining that as it was her first day she was nervous. Helen taunts him over having a soft spot for a 'working-class slut who has neither the intelligence or the ambition to make anything of herself.' Claiming that she deserves to be exploited. Helen asks him to forget about Marilyn and concentrate on what's in his contract. She moves in to kiss him but he rejects her and leaves. She is furious.
Meanwhile, Vera is sat in the dark at home and she looks miserable. She's been drinking and is sat in tears, she notices a picture of her mother and throws her glass at it, smashing the frame, she then bursts into tears.
The next morning, Helen and James Brandon are arguing. She threatens to fire him for walking out on her. He pours her a scotch and she asks him if he found Marilyn. He tells her he wasn't looking for her and Helen then asks him where he's been all night. He tells her he was in a bar and then there is a knock at the door. The police walk in and request to speak to Helen. They tell her that the car she has been renting has been involved in a hit and run accident resulting in the death of a 12 year old boy. Helen looks shocked [ ] then explains that she didn't leave the hotel all night and asks if it was the same car. The police explains that it was and ask Helen to accompany to the station to answer a few more questions.
Marilyn is up to her eyes in dishes in the kitchen, one of the waiters come in and tell Marilyn that he has just seen Helen and James being carted off by the police. Marilyn says she hopes they throw her in the pound and throw away the key, the waiter doesn't understand and Marilyn begins to explain what it is then realises and makes up an excuse that she knows it means solitary as she watched something on the television about it. The manager walks in and sends the waiter out. He tells Marilyn she is lucky to still have her job then feels her bum and leaves.
The women are in the dining room being watched by Vera who looks awful Bea offers to read Karen's tea leaves. She does so and tells Karen that she will be out soon and tells her that she will live on a farm soon with a little brother. Doreen starts singing Old Mcdonald and they carry on laughing. Franky just sits there. Lynn gets up and shouts out that it was her who lagged on Franky not Mum. Franky tells her to watch out for herself as she knows what happens to laggers.
Vera leaves another officer watching the women and meets Greg in the corridor. She is angry with him and accuses him of only helping the women he likes and slapping the ones he doesn't, just as he did with Karen. He puts up a defence but Vera isn't interested.
Helen has been charged and released on bail and is moaning in her hotel room. James and a solicitor are also present. The solicitor claims that they have a case as her car was used in the accident. Helen believes it was definitely stolen as she was in her hotel room all night. She is worried of the damage this will do to her business. Her solicitor reassures her that nothing will happen and she won't be charged as she is such a high profile person. Helen tells him to sort it out and explains she has business to attend to and a plane to catch. The solicitor tells her she can't leave the country as that would break the conditions of her bail. She doesn't believe him and asks him to leave. The solicitor refuses to take on any more responsibility. She orders James to call the airport and confirm the booking whilst she goes for a bath. He picks up the phone and calls the police instead.
The women are in the rec room. Doreen points out Helen to Bea in the paper [ ] and explains that she has killed a kid in a hit and run. Lynn claims that she is innocent as she hasn't got the face for it. The women disagree.
Marilyn is also reading the same article and is angry that she has been sacked when Helen has committed such a terrible crime. Eddie tells her to stop getting upset over it. He asks her where she wants to go for dinner the next night as its his birthday. She complains as she should be taking him out as it's his birthday. He says that all the present he needs is for her to tell him she loves him. She does so several times.
Helen and James have arrived at the airport. The police arrest her.
Helen is inducted by Vera at Wentworth. She is instructed by the sister to undress and Helen refuses to do so, using her status to try and get out of it. Vera isn't impressed and sees Helen as just another prisoner. The sister and another officer grab Helen as Vera starts to undo the buttons on her dress. Helen is furious.
The bell rings as Helen is putting her things away in her cell. Lynn walks in and offers to take Helen to the dining room. Lynn reassures Helen that she believes she is innocent. Helen agrees to help Lynn with her case after Lynn explains that everyone thinks she is innocent of burying a child. Vera walks in and tells them to get to the dining room.

She tells her to have nothing to do with Franky as she is uncouth. Doreen admires Helen being in the make up business and tells Helen that her cousin is an AVON lady and she wants to do the same thing. Helen is unimpressed but tells Doreen that she'll be really good at it. Lizzie comments on the amount of money Helen has and Lynn defends her by saying that money doesn't buy good taste. Vera walks over and apologises about the lack of good guests. Helen claims that they will all get along fine, Vera isn't so sure.
Erica is in her office reading through a file, Meg walks in a Erica and explains to her that there are no grounds for an appeal for Lynn. Meg is shocked and asks if they will keep on trying. Erica tells her that they see it as a waste of time. Meg gets angry and tells Erica that she is certain of Lynn's innocence. Erica isn't so sure. She tells Meg not to say anything and asks to Helen after the meal.
Back in the dining room, Franky asks Helen if she likes the food and she it's clear she doesn't. Helen wants to use her status and friends to highlight the intolerable conditions on the inside. Lizzie agrees. Lynn believes that she can do something to help them but Franky isn't so sure. Karen claims that Franky should be nice to Helen as she could do wonders with her face. Vera asks for the tables to be cleared and Franky immediately volunteers. She clears everyones plates and as she gets to Karen she goes to tip It all over her, Karen pushes the plates on the floor and Vera orders Franky to clean it up. Helen is shocked and defends Franky telling Vera that it was Karen's fault; this doesn't go down well with the other women. Vera tells Karen to clean up the mess. She reluctantly does so.
Marilyn is at work and also smashes a plate. She goes to clean it up as the manager walks in. She apologises for smashing it then asks him for the rise they were talking about. He tells her he will discuss it with her when everyone else has gone home. One of the other workers tells her to be careful as he always gets what he wants.

Helen says she had to do as she couldn't see an innocent person suffer. Franky tells her she didn't need any help. Meg walks in and takes Helen to see the governor. Eddie tells Bea about Helen nearly getting Marilyn sacked form her job. She is angry and asks Doreen, Karen and Lizzie to sort out Helen.
They are sat in her cell. Lizzie is wearing her make up and a hat. Doreen is in one of her dresses. Helen walks in and looks shocked telling them to put everything down. Bea tells her that she has to learn the rules. The first one being that she doesn't tell the screws anything about anything. The second one being that she doesn't like her friends being given a hard time. Helen doesn't know what she is talking about and Bea reminds her about Marilyn. Helen is adamant that Marilyn deserved to be reported as she was useless at her job. Bea tells her that she still has a lot to learn and takes one of her lipsticks and draws a line around her neck and leaves Helen crying.
Franky is waiting for Karen in the corridor, she asks her to make a deal and if Karen stops giving her a hard time then she'll lay off too. Karen says that its pointless. Franky reminds Karen that she can still get to her without screwing up her parole. Karen reminds Franky about being pushed down the stairs and claiming someone else did as Karen did with her. Franky backs down, telling her to stop being friendly with Bea as she is going to gets what's coming to her and she doesn't want Karen to get hurt as she thinks she is special. Karen is disgusted and walks away.
Helen is speaking to James in the interview room. Vera is supervising. Helen asks Vera to leave and she refuses. Helen tries to make Vera understand that the media are going to want to interview Helen about what life is like in Wentworth. Vera doesn't back down and stays. Helen fears for her life and asks James to tell them that they were together, so that she can get out. James tells her that the police have identified a witness who claims to have seen a woman driving the car that killed the boy. Helen then becomes scared, blaming James for leaving her the night it happened. He tells her not to worry as he has told the press her side of the story and they may be sympathetic towards her. He asks her to trust him.
Vera leads her down the corridor and Helen apologises to her, explaining that she is worried about her business. She comments on Vera's uniform and make up. Vera tells her that there isn't any point in looking attractive whilst at work, something which Helen will realise soon enough. Vera leads Helen into the recroom and the women quietly look at her then look away. She sits down on a seat and Lizzie walks over to her and stares at her. Doreen advises Helen to move away as she only stares like that when she is about to have one of her turns. Bea tells Helen that Lizzie is always sorry afterwards. Doreen explains to Helen that Lizzie isn't her real name only a nickname; Lizzie Bawden. Helen then understands and Lizzie then asks for her axe back! The women, including Vera all laugh and Helen stands up shocked, looks distressed and tries to ignore the laughter. She looks at one of the women's paintings and tells her that she could sell it. The woman painting it then draws over it and leaves. Helen looks unhappy.

Marilyn is at home and Eddie walks in. He tells her that Helen isn't enjoying her new home at Wentworth. Eddie tells Marilyn to start getting ready to go out and leaves again. She picks up the phone and dials a number, telling the person on the other end that she wants to work again and asks for the address.
Helen's solicitor is in the interview room, she is escorted in by Meg. Helen is unhappy but he advises her to stop antagonising the officers as it wont help her appeal. She asks about the witness and he tells her things aren't looking good but he is 80% confident. Helen is unimpressed. He tells her he is doing his best and advises her to co-operate. She agrees.
Vera is at home, looking nothing like Vera at all. She has curled her hair and is applying heavy make up. She looks in the mirror then gets upset. Her hair was a wig which she pulls off. She bursts into tears.
Marilyn is at home, wrapping Eddie's present. She is smiling. He comes out of the shower in just a towel and she hands it to him. He opens it and then gets angry, asking her where she got the money from. She tells him she got an advance in her salary and he doesn't believe her. He accuses her of being back on the game and they row. She storms out of the flat.
