Episode Details

Meg is taking Catherine Roberts to her cell. She explains the routines and hands her a rule book, telling her that things are fully explained in it. She opens a cell door and tells Catherine to go inside. She tells Catherine that she will wait with her until she has made her bed. Catherine makes her bed and asks if she can phone her family again to make sure they're alright. Meg tells her that she is allowed 1 phone call on admission and she has already made it. Catherine tells her that they are not used to being without her and her daughter is used to her being there. Meg tells her that Mr Roberts will see that she is alright and that worrying will not help. Catherine attends to her bed.

Ken is at home, drinking and smoking. Sarah comes downstairs and tells him that she couldn't sleep and she wants her Mum. Ken tells her that if she was there she would expect her to be in bed. Sarah sits next to Ken and asks him when she is coming home. Ken tells her that he is going to see a lawyer first thing in the morning and they will get her home. Sarah asks him if she will be coming home forever and he tells her that she has to go to trial. Sarah tells him that it wasn't her fault; she shouldn't have rung her and told her that the man was in the shop. Ken tells her that he is going to get the best lawyer he can and that she will be home for good. Sarah tells him that she didn't want Sarah to go to the shop and that it is her fault. Ken tells her that they need to help each other. Sarah asks him why she killed the man and he tells her that she didn't mean too, she was trying to protect Sarah. Sarah then tells him that it was her fault. Ken disagrees and tells Sarah that they have to show her Mum that they can get through it together. Sarah asks her Dad not to let anyone hurt her Mum. Ken tells her that he won't.

Catherine is still making her bed and Meg tells her not to forget that the first bell is at 6am and then tells her to get changed as she has to turn the lights out. Catherine tells her that she will be alright and Meg closes and locks the door, she walks down the corridor and leaves Catherine crying in her cell as the lights go out.

The next day Franky and Doreen are lying asleep in some bushes in the park. Franky wakes up and looks around, she takes the gun out of her pocket and quickly puts it back at Doreen wakes up. Doreen complains of aching all over and Franky massages her shoulders, she tells Franky that it's no wonder she didn't get any sleep with the ants crawling all over her. Franky tells her that they are better than having that man crawling all over her and she agrees. Doreen asks Franky if she has killed him and she tells her that she hasn't. Doreen asks if he will tell the police and Franky doesn't think he will as he will get put away for hiding them in the flat. She also thinks that he is as much of a criminal as they are. Doreen thanks Franky for looking after her and Franky tells her not to get anymore bright ideas. Doreen asks her what they are going to do now and Franky tells her that she has got an idea but she needs to give it more thought.

The bell rings at the prison and Catherine wakes up screaming "Sarah!" She can hear some of the women complaining and the gates slamming as another bell rings and another and more gates slam.

Ken is talking to Steve in his office. Steve tells him that the hardest thing will be proving that what Catherine did was not pre-meditated as the prosecution will be working on it and that could mean the difference between murder and manslaughter. Ken tells him that she was just trying to protect their daughter and he agrees. Steve apologises for not being able to help him further and suggests other barristers. Ken tells Steve that she wants him to take on her case. Steve asks if Catherine had someone representing her at the magistrate's court and Ken tells him that he was just a local solicitor. Ken tells him that money is no problem; he wants the best defence for his wife. Steve tells him that he will charge him no more than his usual fee and he tells Steve that they need his help. Steve phones through to his PA and tells her to take Sarah next door for a milkshake as they could be a while. Ken thanks him and Steve asks him what he is doing about Catherine's bail and he tells him that it's all in order as he has spoken to his bank manager. Steve asks him what the police were doing about finding Sarah's attacker and Ken tells him that they didn't have much to go on. Steve asks how his wife felt and he tells him that she felt angry as they all wanted the man caught. Steve comments on the fact that they are both very protective towards their daughter and Ken tells him that it would be the same for any parent considering the circumstances. Steve tells him that there may not have been enough evidence to put the man in prison which could have made things worse, as the man could have walked out of court a free man. Ken tells him that they were very angry but they didn't want Sarah to go to court and even considered dropping the charges. Steve tells him that there is a reasonable case against his wife, as she was angry and she wanted to see the man pay for what he did to their daughter, so she killed him, that way Sarah didn't need to go through it all again in court. Ken tells him that he knows his wife, they have been married a long time and it would be ridiculous to think that she would deliberately set out to kill Bert Warren; Sarah's attacker. Steve tells him that they are the possibilities that they will have to face in court.

Doreen and Franky are walking through the park and Doreen refuses to rob a bank to get out of Melbourne as there are cameras and security alarms all around them. Franky tells her that they could get a place in the country and do what she and Darren were going to do. Doreen tells her that Darren wasn't going to rob a bank. Franky tells her that it will be easy; all they need to do is check it out and then wait for the right time. Doreen tells her that she was put inside for doing a job like the one she is suggesting and Franky tells her that it would different this time as she has learnt a lot since then. Doreen tells her that the last time she tried it her girlfriend ended up dead, Doreen tells her that she doesn't want to die and would rather turn herself in. Franky tells her to and then they both looking angry. Doreen then apologises and then tells her that they could rob a petrol station or a shop instead. Franky tells her that if they stay in Melbourne much longer they will get caught. She tells Doreen that she will do the job on her own. Doreen tells her that she can't and Franky asks her for help and Doreen refuses.

Jean walks into reception and meets Greg and Steve. She apologises to Greg about cancelling their dinner date and explains that Meg has let her move in with her. Greg tells her that he is available if there is anything he can do. Meg walks in as Greg leaves and Jean signs in and asks Steve which prisoner he wants to see. He tells her that he would like to see Catherine Roberts and as she takes him to the interview room Jean tells him that he is keeping himself busy and reminds him about Lynn Warner, even though she is a charity case she still needs help. Steve tells her that none of his clients have ever had any cause to complain and asks if any of hers has and then leaves.

Karen is getting dried in the shower block and Catherine is getting dressed. Another prisoner is at the sink. Lynn walks in and Karen asks her when her trial is. Lynn tells her that it's in about a week as Jean has organised a lawyer for her; Mr Wilson, Jean reckons he is pretty good. Karen asks if his name is Steve and Lynn tells her that it is and asks if she knows him and Karen tells her that he is representing her also.

Catherine complains to the other prisoner [CLICK HERE]about using her deodorant and she tells her that she wouldn't have minded her using it if she had asked. Karen tells Catherine to leave her alone and Catherine tells Karen that she has no right to use it. Lynn tells her that she new in the prison and she doesn't understand. Catherine tells her that she understands bad manners. The prisoner asks her how long she got and Catherine tells her that she is only in on remand as her husband is organising bail. Meg walks in and tells Catherine that her lawyer has come to see her. Catherine leaves the shower block and her deodorant. Karen asks Lynn if she saw Catherine at breakfast and Lynn tells her that she did and comments that she is a lady. Karen wonders what she is in for and Lynn thinks its shoplifting! She tells Karen that she probably has enough money to get out on bail. Karen asks Lynn if her parents could have organised bail for her and she tells Karen that it was too much. Karen tells her that she didn't even ask for it.

Steve is waiting in the interview room when Meg brings Catherine in and leaves. Steve introduces himself and Catherine asks where her husband is, he tells her that he just wanted to talk to her privately. She asks about Sarah and is told that she is fine. She asks him when she will get out of the prison and he tells her that she will be out by the afternoon and asks her to sit down, which she does. He tells Catherine that her trial is in 5 days time which doesn't leave him much time and he might have to ask her some difficult questions. She tells him that she told the police everything. He tells her that his might be different. They then talk about Sarah's visit to the shop and he asks her what she was thinking before she saw him, Catherine tells him that she wasn't thinking about killing him, she was scared for Sarah's sake and wanted to get to her quickly. She tells him that she was thinking of her. He then asks her how she felt when she saw him. She tells him that she hated him and didn't know if she wanted him dead or not. He asks her if she knew who the man was and she tells him that she didn't know until later on. He asks her if Sarah has ever seen him before and she tells him that she might have done. Steve then goes on to tell her that Sarah might have seen him before and then blamed him for attacking her, he then goes on to tell Catherine that she might have killed the wrong man.

The women are being given their mail. Lynn has received a letter from her Dad and Karen has received Franky's note. Meg and Steve come into reception and Steve asks to see Lynn. Karen asks him if he has heard anything and he tells her that he will get back to her. Meg leads Steve and Lynn back to the interview room.

Catherine is walking around the garden; Sarah and Ken are brought out by an officer. Sarah tells her that she is missing her and Catherine agrees. Ken kisses her. Sarah tells her that they have been to see a lawyer and she tells Sarah that she knows as she has seen him then tells Ken off taking Sarah with him. Ken tells her that she couldn't have left her at home alone and then he asks her if she is alright. Catherine tells him that she just wants to get out of prison and then asks Sarah if she is certain about the man that attacked her. Sarah tells her that she is certain and then apologises for getting her into trouble. Catherine tells her that it isn't her fault and she needs to know that he was the one who attacked her.

Karen is reading her note in her cell as Lynn walks in. Lynn tells Karen that she is only going to get a light sentence. Karen tells her that she is jealous as her trial will be over soon and she feels that hers is taking forever. Lynn tells her that she is sick of waiting and Karen tells her to be happy. Lynn tells Karen that her Dad doesn't say anything about how he feels about what she has done. Karen tells her to give him time as he is probably shocked. Lynn asks who Karen got her letter from and she tells her that Franky has written to her, telling her that they are doing well. Lynn asks how it got past the officers and Karen tells her that she didn't sign it but is pleased that she is learning how to write. Karen reckons that she wasn't a complete failure.

Doreen looks in a few shop windows then tells Franky, who is sat on a bench, that there is only an old man in the hardware shop. Doreen tells her that she is going to be sick and Franky tells her not too as she has changed her plans enough times and wont do it again. She tells Doreen to sit down and stop thinking about it. Doreen sits down and tells Franky to move. Franky refuses and tells her to think about something else, like what sort of farm they are going to get. Doreen tells Franky that she is scared. Franky tells her that she won't let her down, she let her brother down and it won't happen again. Doreen tells her that it wasn't her fault he died. Franky tells her that she wasn't even there in time for when he died and Doreen tells her that if she had told her what was in the telegram she would have been. She tells Doreen that it's not her fault she can't read and that she is going to get the farm for him. Doreen tells her that she still has her and tells her that she is the best friend she has ever had. Franky tells her that they are going to make it and Doreen agrees.

Jean is on the phone asking one of the prisoner's mums to come in and visit her when Meg walks in. Meg gives a key to her flat and tells her to move in whenever she likes. Jean asks her if she wants to change her mind as she is clean but is a compulsive hoarder. Meg tells her that she doesn't mind as long as she keeps it all in her room. Jean tells her that she will be a star boarder.

Franky and Doreen are still sat on the bench when Franky tells her that they need to go. As they get to the shops, she tells Doreen that all she has to do is keep watch. Doreen notices a policeman and Franky tells her not to panic as he starts following them. They start running and the policeman runs after them. Doreen trips over and calls out for Franky who tells her to turn round and get up. Doreen tells her that she can't and Franky shoots the policeman in the arm. He falls down and shoots Franky in the stomach. Doreen screams and starts crying as Franky lies in her arms. Doreen tells her not to die as she going to get help and then shouts for someone to get an ambulance. Franky tells her to run off and Doreen tells her that she isn't leaving her. Franky tells her that she still has a chance and Doreen tells her that she isn't leaving her. Franky tells her that she can still make and to run off. Franky lies on the grass. Doreen kisses her and says goodbye. Franky tells her to leave and Doreen runs off crying.

"Bloody bastards" are Franky's last words as she dies. Sirens are heard in the distance.

Vera brings Karen in to see Steve and tells Vera that he won't be long and would like to see his client alone. Vera leaves and closes the door. Steve tells Karen to sit down. Karen tells him that she was starting think that he had given up on her and he apologises, telling her that he has been busy. Steve tells her that he cant tell her anymore yet, he only wants to tell her not to worry. Karen asks him how long she will have to wait and he tells her that it is up to the Supreme Court. She asks him if he can hurry them along and he tells her that he can't. He reassures her that they will reopen the case, it simply takes time. Karen tells him that he hasn't got enough time with all the clients he is representing, especially those ones that are paying him. He tells her that he is being paid to represent her but can't tell her who is paying him. She gets angry and bangs on the door; Vera walks in and asks her what's up. She tells him that they have finished and that she would like to see the doctor. Vera asks her why and she tells her that she feels dreadful and walks out with Vera.

Greg is talking to the sister when Vera brings Karen in. Greg asks her to leave and she tells him that the Governor ordered that they were not to be left alone together and Greg tells her that the sister can provide all the supervision they need. Vera leaves and closes the door. The sister goes into the next room. Karen asks Greg if he is paying for her lawyer, when he doesn't deny it she tells him that she will pay for someone she can afford. He tells her that it is too late to change lawyers as it would harm her case and she tells him that doesn't want to be under any obligations. Greg tells her that he would do the same for any friend. Karen tells him that she only wants a retrial and he tells her that that is all he wants. She tells him that she may be serving time for years and Greg tells her that anything is better than life. Karen tells him not to care for her too much as they would only end up hurting each other. Greg tells him that it's too late and Karen disagrees, telling him that doesn't want to get involved. She tells him that they are finished.

Catherine is in her cell. Meg comes in and tells her that Ken will be late picking her up. She tells Catherine that he didn't give a reason why and tells her that she can wait in her cell or in reception. Catherine chooses to wait in her cell and asks Meg if she has a family. Meg tells her that she has a son. Catherine asks her what she would do if someone threatened him without anyone to help him. Meg tells her that she doesn't know. Catherine tells Meg that she was only protecting Sarah and Meg tells her that she thought she would be helping her by killing a man. Catherine agrees with this and Meg leaves.

Greg is in his office when Jean walks in, he is clearly upset. Jean asks him to come to hers for the meal she had promised him, telling him that if he helps her to move, she will cook for him. She asks him if everything is alright and he tells her he is fine and she leaves.

Karen is stood in her cell, she puts on the radio and lights a cigarette. She lies on her bed and thinks about the conversation she had with Greg about Franky kissing her and the one about when they were together and she wanted children. She also remembers Greg telling her to trust him and them kissing. She turns the station on the radio over and hears that Franky has been shot dead and Doreen has not been found.

Doreen is in the park, shouting, some people try to help her and she runs off, one of them comments that she should be put away.

Greg is signing out and Jean is waiting with him. Meg tells Catherine to sign out also. Jean asks Meg if she would like a lift home and she tells her that she doesn't finish for ages. Jean tells her that Greg has offered to help her move. He tells her that it is on the condition that he gets a home cooked meal. Jean tells him that she will cook and leave some for Meg for when she gets in. They leave and Vera walks in, telling Meg that the Governor wants to see her. Vera tells Meg that Franky Doyle has died. Meg asks how it happened and Vera tells her that she got a gun and shot a policeman. Vera tells her that she knew her temper would get her into trouble. Meg asks about Doreen and Vera tells her that she ran off instead of staying with Franky. Meg takes Catherine out as Ken has arrived for her.

Ken is waiting in the car and gets out when he sees Catherine and Meg walking towards him. The gate guard opens the gate and Ken puts Catherine's bags in the car. Ken tells Catherine that she has sent Sarah to stay at Vivian's as they need to talk and he doesn't want Sarah to get any more upset that she already is. Catherine asks him why she wasn't asked about it and Ken tells her that if he had, she wouldn't have let her go. Catherine tells him that she doesn't want his family getting involved. Ken tells her that Viv understands. They get in the car and drive off.

Karen is crying in her cell. Vera walks in and asks her why she isn't working. Karen tells her that she doesn't feel well. Vera tells her that it must be nice to have a doctor for a friend and comments that he must have given her orders to take it easy. Karen tells her that that isn't the reason. Vera tells her that it can't be because she is jealous. She tells her that she might be interested to know that Greg and Jean are getting on nicely and it must hard on her knowing that she is in prison and they are outside. Karen tells her that she isn't interested in what Greg does but has noticed that Vera seems to be taking an interest. Vera tells Karen that she won't have to worry about Franky any more either and Karen calls her a bitch. Vera tells her that she could be put in solitary for what she's just said and Karen tells her too. Vera smiles and leaves. Karen sits down and bursts into tears.

Catherine is on the phone to Sarah and tells her that she won't have to stay at Aunty Vivian's long as she wants her at home as soon as possible. Catherine tells her not to worry and says goodnight to her and puts the phone down. She pours herself a drink and tells Ken that Sarah didn't want to go. Ken tells her that he thought it was for the best and Catherine thinks he did it to keep them apart. Catherine sits down and then tells him that she thinks he blames her for what's happened. Ken tells her that Bert Warren had been with the firm for years and he was a well respected man. Catherine tells her that he raped Sarah and asks him if he believe what Sarah said. Ken tells her that Sarah might have imagined that he did it and Catherine tells him that she doesn't think that. Ken tells her that regardless of who she has killed she has killed someone. Catherine tells her that she doesn't need to be reminded and that no court will convict her for what she did. Ken tells her that if she is convicted bad things will happen to him and Sarah. Catherine then thinks about it, telling herself that they won't blame her and send her back to prison.

The sun is shining over Wentworth, Doreen walks up to the gate and asks the gate guard to let her in.

Doreen is being interviewed by the police with Vera present. The Detective tells her that she will be charged with breaking out of prison, assault, theft and attempted armed robbery. Doreen tells him that they didn't get near the shop and the Detective tells her that they ran off once they saw the policeman. He tells her that Miss McBride refused to lay charges against her. The policewoman tells her that she has enough against her to do another 5-10 years and that she would be better helping them. Doreen refuses and Vera tells her to shut up. The policewoman asks her where Franky got the gun from and Doreen tells her that she doesn't know. Doreen asks her if the policeman Franky shot is still alive and is told that he is. She tells them that he ought to be charged with murder. The policewoman asks where else they stayed and if anyone helped her. Doreen tells her that they got no help and the policewoman asks her how they managed and if they did so by breaking an entering. Doreen tells them to piss off and is warned again by Vera. Doreen asks Vera what she is going to do to her, lock her in solitary and bash her up. Doreen tells them that they do it all the time inside. They ask her why she turned herself in and she tells them that she owes Franky a few favours.

Steve is talking to Catherine about what happened. He asks her why she didn't let the police take care of the man that attacked Sarah and she tells him that she had to stop him. Ken asks him what he thinks. Steve tells that it's going to be difficult and that he is going to plead Manslaughter on the basis that Catherine was highly emotional after hearing that Catherine had been raped and on hearing that Sarah's rapist was at the shop, she went to get her and didn't think about killing him until the last moment. Catherine tells him that that is exactly how it happened. He tells her that she was emotionally unstable. Catherine doesn't agree with being unstable and he tells her that she was temporarily insane. Ken agrees with him and Catherine asks Ken if he thinks she was insane. He tells her that he wants to see her get out of the mess she is in.

Vera is taking Doreen down the corridor and tells her that she will be put into a single cell and will be put under observation as she is now considered to be dangerous and asks her if she feels as big as Franky. Doreen turns round and tells Vera that her filthy mouth will get her killed one day. Vera tells her that she didn't care about Franky as she left her to die. Doreen carries on walking and Vera tells her that she knew she would be back soon. Doreen tells her that she wouldn't have come back if she hadn't wanted to.

Doreen stops at Karen's cell and drops her things. Doreen walks in and tells her that she only came back so that she could see her. She blames Karen for Franky's death, telling her that she wouldn't have got out and be dead if it hadn't been for Karen. Doreen tells her that it isn't true and Doreen blames her for killing Franky and grabs her hair and pushes her to the floor. Vera grabs her and takes her out and Doreen tells Karen that she will get her for what she did to Franky. Doreen tells her that Franky loved her but she made her run away and now she is dead. Karen sits on the floor, holding her hand over her eye, shocked by what has just happened.
