Episode Details
The VJ tells Vera that he doesn't like the look of Barbara's file and Vera tells him that they share the same opinion about drugs.
Meg knocks on the door and brings Barbara into the office. She sits down in front of the VJ and Vera, Meg stands behind her. Vera introduces the VJ and he tells her that he doesn't like what he sees as she has been put inside for a filthy crime and then carries on doing it on the inside. He tells her that a little more time in solitary might sort her out. Barbara tells him that he doesn't know and then he asks her how she got the drugs into the prison as it can't have been easy and she tells him that she had them all along, since she came in. He doesn't believe her and Meg tells him what Barbara said about an officer helping her. Barbara then denies telling Meg anything, telling her that she must have misunderstood, telling her that she was all mixed up and solitary must have had an effect on her. She meant to say that she was sorry. The VJ asks her to wait outside and she does. The VJ asks Vera what's going on and he tells her that they can't disregard what she has said. Vera agrees with him but adds that she is now denying it. The VJ asks Vera if any of the staff have been involved and Vera tells him that she doubts it, telling him that she has complete confidence in her staff. She tells him that Barbara should go back to her cell for the time being as they are not going to get the truth out of her when she is being locked away by herself. The VJ tells her that she should be watched and Vera tells him that she will be. She tells Meg to bring Barbara back in and she does so.
Steve is talking to Lynn in the interview room. He asks her if she is alright and if there is anything wrong. She tells him that there is nothing important to tell him and he tells her that he has got some questions to ask her. Lynn tells him that she is listening and he tells her that she doesn't seem very interested. She tells him again that she is listening and that he only has to tell her what to say and she will. She tells him that he should have a very good story to tell about her which will make them all cry. Steve tells her that he is bored with her hardened criminal routine and she tells him to talk to her Dad. Steve asks about him and she tells him that he finally showed up. Steve is pleased because he would make a good character witness. Lynn tells her to talk to him. Steve tells her that he would only have to talk about her family background and her home. Lynn tells him that her Dad is good at that.
Meg is taking Barbara to her cell. She tells Meg that she must have got the wrong idea about what she said and Meg tells her that she didn't and that she doesn't know what she has to gain by making enemies for herself. Barbara tells her that she doesn't and that she won't cause any more trouble and that she will be a good, faithful prisoner. Meg tells her that she thinks she is stupid. Meg walks down the corridor.
Doreen and Lynn ask if she knows how lawyers make money. Doreen says she doesn't know but she has never met a poor one and Lynn tells her that they don't have worry about money and Doreen agrees. They stop at Barbara's cell. Doreen comments that they let Barbara out and she tells them that they obviously did. Doreen tells Lynn that it would be, obviously, with the Governor for an Aunty and that it isn't what you know but who you know. Barbara tells her that her Aunty had nothing to do with it and Doreen tells her that others have tried to do what she did and the officers came down hard on them. Barbara tells her that she can't help it as the VJ let her out and that it was Vera who was Governor. Lynn tells her that that's because Mrs Davidson has taken Lizzie somewhere. Barbara tells Lynn that she would know as she is so sweet and innocent. Doreen assumes that Barbara is calling Lynn a dog and tells her that she is the dog. Barbara tells Doreen that isn't scared of her and Doreen tells her that she is dumb as she doesn't have a friend on the inside except her Aunty. Barbara tells Doreen that her Aunty put her in solitary and Doreen mocks her. Barbara tells her that it won't always be the same. Doreen asks her why and then leaves her cell, laughing.
The VJ and Vera are drinking tea. He asks Vera if there is anyone else to see and she tells him that there were only 3. The VJ tells her that they got through them efficiently and that Mrs Davidson usually lets the prisoners ramble on and on. Vera tells him that Erica believes that they should be given a fair trial. The VJ tells her that he wanted to act much more harshly with Barbara but Vera tells him that she thinks they acted as Erica would have wanted. The VJ asks her to explain what she means and she tells him that she is being careful because Barbara is the Governor's niece. The VJ asks her if she had special instructions from Erica when dealing with Barbara and Vera tells him that Erica has played it by the book since Barbara arrived and given her the same treatment as any other prisoner. The VJ asks her if they have had much contact and Vera tells her that it must have been embarrassing for Erica and the VJ agrees. Vera offers him a biscuit.
Erica and Lizzie arrive at their destination and Erica tells her that he has been given the right address. Lizzie warns her to lock up her car as someone might steal it and Erica agrees. Lizzie tells her that she hasn't seen her brother for a very long time and is very excited.
They walk to the door and ring the bell, a woman answers and lets them in after Erica tells her who they are. The woman comments on how bad the room looks and them that the whole place is exactly the same. She tells them that the doctor is there and goes to get him. Lizzie tells her that he always collected lots of stuff and Erica notices a genuine Chippendale table. Lizzie comments that Chippendale is in Sydney as she picks up an object and Erica tells her to be careful with it. Lizzie thinks that is only junk but Erica tells her that it's very expensive china worth about $100. The woman brings the doctor out and he thanks Erica for coming. Lizzie tells the Doctor that she is his sister and asks where he is. The doctor tells her that he is asleep and asks for her help as he has refused to go to hospital. The doctor tells Lizzie to try and persuade him to go. Lizzie tells him that she will asks him if she can sit with him and hold his hand as they have been apart for a long time and every moment is precious. The woman leads them into his room.
Lizzie's brother is fast asleep. The woman tells Erica that he can only get to sleep once he has had some brandy. Lizzie tells the doctor that she will sit next to him and be really quite. The doctor and the woman leave the room, he suggests that she makes some tea. Lizzie starts talking to her brother telling him that the last time she saw him he owed her $50 and then tells him that she isn't going to mention it as $50 is nothing under the circumstances.
Steve is talking to Jean. He is annoyed with Lynn. Jean tries to defend her behaviour by telling him about her Dad. Steve tells her that if she goes into court looking like an 'old lag' then they stand no chance of winning. Jean tries again to tell him about what her Dad said about Lynn being the cause of their problems. Jean tells him that Lynn is sorry and is looking for forgiveness. Steve tells her that her only hope of winning is be portrayed as the innocent country girl who got led astray when she moved to the urban city. Jean tells him to talk to her Dad. He agrees.
Mr Godwin is in Reception with Vera. He tells her that he has had a pleasant afternoon working with her. She thanks him and tells him that she needs to get back to her duties and they say goodbye to each other. Vera leaves as Meg walks in. Mr Godwin asks about Barbara and Meg asks if Miss Bennett has spoken to him. He tells her that she has mentioned it and asks her if she has noticed anything about Erica giving Barbara any special treatment. Meg tells her that Erica punished Barbara like she would have punished any other prisoner. Mr Godwin agrees. He then mentions the accusation she made against an officer and Meg tells him that she withdrew it. Mr Godwin tells her that it has been a lot of fuss over nothing and that there is no need to worry and Meg agrees. Mr Godwin leaves.
Erica is drinking tea. Angus is snoring then wakes up as Lizzie says hello. She tells him that they had no trouble in letting her out to see him and she tells him that Erica is the boss of the prison. He tells Erica that she isn't bad looking for a cop and Lizzie tells him to be quiet. He tells her that he can say what he likes as he hasn't committed a crime unlike Lizzie. Lizzie tells him that he wasn't caught for doing any crimes and then asks to talk about happier times. He asks when they were. He thanks Erica for bringing Lizzie to him as he has been thinking about what to say to her. Lizzie tells him that there isn't any need to say anything. Angus tells him that he only wanted to see her because the Doctor said he was going to die. Lizzie tells him that she wanted them to make their peace before he died. Angus tells her that she should never have married Bert and she gets angry, telling him that Bert would have bashed him any day of the week. He asks her where Bert is and then tells her that she is probably in prison. Lizzie tells him that Bert wasn't as bad as him and Erica tries to stop them for arguing. Angus tells Erica that he has wanted to say what he has to Lizzie for a long time, telling Lizzie that that her family were proud until she went to prison, as she was the first one of the family to be sent to prison. Lizzie tells him that she was driven to it and asks him where he was when she needed help. He tells her that was no where near. She tells him that that was only the case until he wanted some money and he tells her that she was stupid enough to give it. He goes on to tell her that she was always drunk and showing herself off in front of men as well as stealing. Lizzie tells him that he was just as bad as the Doctor and Nurse come back into the room. Lizzie asks him for her share of the money and he laughs, telling her that she got her share from the Sergeant. She tells him to shut up and that she hopes he will rot in hell. He tells her that he will see her there and that she has done him in, she tells him that she hopes so as Erica pulls her away. Lizzie runs out of the room and Erica follows as the Doctor checks on Angus.
Lizzie is listening at the door and she asks Erica if she thinks he is dead. Erica tells her that she doesn't know and Lizzie tells her that she nearly had one of her turns herself. She tells her that she didn't think it would turn out the way it did and Erica agrees. The Doctor comes out and tells Lizzie that Angus is dead. Lizzie tells Erica that she is glad they got there in time and then asks the Doctor if he said anything before he died. He tells her that he told the Doctor that Lizzie won't get anything as he doesn't have a sister. She is angry and accuses him of being tight, telling them that he got the last word again.

She tells him that he will be. He tries to convince her to plead temporary insanity and is angry that she won't. She tells him that it would be a lie if she did and a weakness. He tells her that she might go to prison for a long time. She tells him that they have him too see to it that she doesn't. He asks if Sarah is at home and she comes into the room. Steve tells Catherine that she wants to put Sarah on the witness stand. Catherine disagrees. Steve tells them that they have to convince the jury that she was defending her daughter against the man before he attacked her again. Catherine tells him that that is the truth. He tells her that they know that but the jury doesn't. Catherine tells him that they don't need Sarah and he tells her that putting Sarah on the stand in a school uniform will have an effect on the jury. Catherine tells him that it is an open court. Sarah tells her that she doesn't care as long as it will help her. Catherine disagrees and Sarah leaves. Catherine tells him that Sarah doesn't realise what they could do to her.
Lizzie and Erica get in her car and Lizzie asks Erica who she thinks will get what belonged to Angus. Erica tells her to forget it. Vera tells her that she expects the same respect she would give Erica. Meg asks her what she told Mr Godwin about Barbara and goes on to say that he has got it all wrong and that she would like to discredit Erica. She tells Meg that she doesn't like her tone and Meg tells her not to get carried away as she is only in the officer for the afternoon. Vera tells her that she doesn't understand Meg as she is a prison officer like her and asks her what she sees in Erica. Meg tells her that Erica is in charge. Vera tells her that it could change and Meg tells her that she would like it too. Vera tells her that she hasn't made a secret of it and that she has told Erica that she is sick of her. Meg gets and angry and leaves.

She tells Erica that they lived in a tent by a creek and had 5 children, two of which died.
They sit down on a bench and Lizzie tells her that he left her for a barmaid and that she had to work as he never did. They took her children away as they told her she was an unfit mother. She tells Erica that she started to slide after that but felt lucky that she got the job with the shearers. Lizzie tells her that she is doing all the talking and asks her to tell a story. She comments that she is the cream of society and that Bea Smith has told her that Erica's father was a judge. Erica tells her that he was. Lizzie tells her that she doesn't give much away. Erica tells her that her father was Chief Justice Marn and her brother was a Member of Parliament. Lizzie asks her why she is governing the prison and she tells her that it's because of the way she was brought up as they were all do gooders. Steve asks him to appear in court and speak on her behalf. Lynn's Dad tells him that he has to say that she has been a good girl and he agrees, telling her that it might lighten her sentence. Lynn's Dad tells him that it might not be what he wants as prison might straighten her out. Steve tells him that he has his doubts. Jean tells him that Lynn could get an ordinary job on a work release programme but would only be able to do it if she got a light sentence. The girls leave and he tells her that he was talking to Lynn. Doreen tells him that she isn't stopping him and Lynn tells him that she doesn't care.
