Episode Details

It's night time at Wentworth. Meg is sat in Jean's office when she walks in. Meg is waiting for Jean to give her a lift home. Jean comments that she didn't think Meg would be into pop magazines and Meg tells her that she is reading an article on Jason Richards and asks Jean if she has heard of him. Jean tells her that he is a singer and Meg agrees, telling Jean that Marty used to have some of his records. She goes on to tell Jean that Susan Rice's husband works for him. Jean asks her how she found out and Meg tells her that Susan saw him on TV and got upset, blaming him for the break up of her marriage. Jean asks her what she means by upset and Meg tells her that that is all she was and nothing happened to suggest she had a mental problem. Jean promises not to go on about that any more and tells her that she can understand why she would be upset over the break up of the marriage but she doesn't understand why she can't accept the divorce as they hadn't seen each other for 3 months and when he was around she hardly saw him. Meg tells her that she still loves him and doesn't want to admit that she has lost him. Jean accepts this and then asks her how she can explain Susan's Kleptomania, as it's a bit strange. Meg agrees and then tells her that she is unsure why any of the women inside do the things they do, she tells Jean that Susan was probably bored with her husband being away all the time and found it difficult to cope. Jean tells her that at least now she knows where he works and Meg tells her that she will be poking her nose in where it isn't wanted as she is not a marriage counsellor. They leave Jean's office.

Alone in her cell, Susan writes Freddie's name all over her wardrobe in red lipstick, singing to herself as she does it.

The next morning, Vera walks to the bus stop and waits for the bus. George pulls up and offers Vera a lift which she declines. He tells her that it's no trouble and gets out of the car. She walks over to him and he tells her that he's gone to collect her but she had already left. He asks her if anything is wrong and she pulls the lighter he gave her out of her bag, telling him that she was going to post it to him. He tells her that it was a gift and she tells him that she saw Anne the night before and then asks him what he does for a living. He asks her if Anne told her and she tells him that Anne told her to ask him. George tells him that he thinks, as people, they have feelings for each other because of who they are, not what they do and Vera agrees. George asks her if she would feel any differently about him if she knew what he did and she tells him that she doesn't know. He tells her that he grew up very old fashioned. His Mum never asked his Dad what he did when he wasn't around and she asks him if his Mother was ever worried by it. He tells her that she trusted him and then offers her a lift to work. Vera accepts and gets in the car. He gets in and drives off.

Jean and Meg arrive at work and she thanks Jean for the lift. Meg gets out of Jean's car and tells her that she will see her later. Jean tells her that she will let her know how she gets on with Susan's husband. Vera and George pull up behind them and he lets Vera out of the car. Meg comments that she can't believe what she is seeing and Jean tells her that she thinks it's fantastic and that George isn't bad looking. Jean comments that Vera seemed almost human the day before and asks whether George was the reason. Meg tells her that she wishes Vera good luck as Vera enters the prison. George tells Vera that he will see her later at Anne's apartment.

Jean drives into the prison grounds and Meg asks Vera if her friend wasn't talking about Anne Yates. Vera asks her if she has taken up eavesdropping and Meg tells her to forget it. Vera tells her that who she sees and what she does outside the prison is her business. Meg tells her that it would be alright if she wasn't seeing an ex prison officer who broke every rule in the book. Vera tells her to tell the Governor. Meg tells her that she is being silly and tells her that she doesn't want to see her get into something that she can't get out of. Vera tells her that she knows who her real friends are. Meg tells her that it is none of her business but Anne Yates is trouble. Vera tells her that Anne has changed and Meg doesn't believe her. Vera then asks her when she ever cared about what went on in Vera's life and asks her to take a look at her own life before butting into anyone else's. Vera walks away from Meg and Meg sighs.

Jean is sat at her desk and asks the person is talking to on the phone to help her contact Frederick Rice. There is a knock at the door and Greg walks in. Jean then tells the person on the phone that she was told he worked for Jason Richard's and asks if they are his agent and asks them to check again. She asks Greg if he wanted anything and he tells her that he wants to invite her to dinner that evening and she accepts. Greg asks her if she is a fan of Jason Richards and Jean tells her that she isn't but Susan Rice's husband works for him. She tells him that the funny thing is that the channel have never heard of Frederick Rice. Jean asks the person on the person on the phone if they are sure and then puts the phone down, telling Greg that they haven't heard of him either. She asks Greg if Susan could be lying about where her husband works and he tells her to ask Susan. Jean asks him if he thinks it's a bit strange and he tells her that she seems perfectly rational to him, telling Jean that he might be lying to her about where he works to make himself feel more important or for more freedom as working in a job like that would keep him away from a lot. Jean asks him if it's so he could play around and he tells her that there could be lots of different reasons. He then reminds her about their dinner date and leaves.

Susan is in her cell, staring into space when Vera walks in telling her that she has been looking for her and then asks her what she has been doing. Susan has written Frederick loves Susan on her wardrobe and Jason Richards on her mirror. Vera tells her to look at the mess and then asks her if she is funny. Susan apologises, telling Vera that she didn't mean to do it. Vera finds the lipstick on the floor and then asks her where she got it from, Susan tells her that it won't happen again and Vera tells her that there is no need for her to look pretty in prison and asks her if she has any more. Susan tells her that she will clean it up and Vera tells her that she had better but it can wait as the Regional Officer wants to see her. Vera asks her if she should have been in the laundry and Susan agrees. Vera tells her that when she is meant to work she will work. Susan apologises again and tells her that she must have lost her temper. Vera tells her that they don't put up with tantrums and tells her to move. Susan and Vera leave her cell.

Jean puts the kettle on in her office when Vera brings Susan to see her. Vera asks her if she wants to see her alone and Jean tells her that she does. Jean asks Vera to tell Lynn that she wants to see her in half an hour. Vera tells her that she is not a messenger service. Jean tells her that she didn't think she would want to see her wandering around the prison. Vera tells her that if she sees her she will tell her. Jean thanks her and Vera tells her to face up to the fact that the scheme isn't working. Jean tells her that it will and Vera tells her that it won't with the women they have inside. Jean tells her that she doesn't like seeing anyone making a go of anything. Vera shows Susan in and leaves.

Jean tells Susan to sit down and offers her a cup of coffee which she accepts. Jean asks her how she is settling in and Susan tells her that she would rather be at home. Jean tells her that it must be exciting being married to someone in the entertainment business. Susan tells her that she never got involved in his work as she was too busy looking after their children. Jean asks her if she has ever heard of Mcmahon Enterprises. Susan tells her that they are the agents for Jason Richards and asks her why she is asking. Jean pours her the coffee and tells her that she just curious and tells her that it must have been a strain on her having her husband away a lot and having to bring up their children all by herself. Susan tells her that Freddie always made sure they had everything they needed. Jean tells her that he must have been dedicated to his job. Susan tells her that even when he was at home he would bring his work home with him. Jean tells her that it must be hard on her knowing that he wants a divorce and Susan tells her that he doesn't really as he loves her. Jean asks her if he had ever been unfaithful. Susan tells her that he probably was but has learnt to accept coming second best as his career has always been the most important thing to him. Susan goes on to tell her that she learnt to adjust but was always there when he needed her and he knew it. Susan tells her that that is why she knows it isn't his idea to get a divorce. Jean asks her if she means that it was the idea of another woman and Susan tells her that it was Jason Richards idea as he never liked her as he expected Freddie to work for him 24 hours a day and that there was never any time for a wife and family of anyone who worked for him. Jean tells her that she has spoken to the agents and they have never heard of her husband. Susan tells her that she had no right as he will now think that she is checking up on him. Jean asks her if her husband works for Jason Richards and she tells her that he does work for Jason Richards but it is him who doesn't want her to contact her husband as he is protecting him. Jean reminds her that she rang him a few days before and asks her how she got through to him if Jason is trying to stop her contacting him. Susan tells her that she doesn't want her to ring him as Frederick will see her when he has time.

Vera is in Susan's cell with Lynn and Lynn asks her what the mess has to do with her as she didn't do it. Vera tells her to clean up the mess and Lynn asks her why she has to clean up someone else's mess. Vera tells her that if she wants to see Miss Vernon she will do as she is told. Lynn tells her that she might have heard about her retrial and Vera tells her that the sooner she cleans up the mess, the sooner she will find out. Vera tells her that if she does get a second chance she has to behave for a week and threatens to report her to the Governor if she answers back again then leaves the cell.

Susan walks in and apologises to Lynn, telling her that she shouldn't have to do it. Lynn tells her to tell that to Vera. Susan tells her that she is sorry that Lynn is being made to clean up the mess and that she doesn't know why she did it as it was a childish thing to do. She tells Lynn that she felt like lashing out. Lynn tells her that the prison makes them all do strange things and Susan agrees, telling that people can make you do strange things too.

Vera walks into reception and picks up the phone. She dials a number and talks to Anne Yates, telling her that she won't be able to go to hers tonight and asks her to tell George. She tells Anne that she thinks he is nice as Steve Wilson walks into Reception and asks if he can see Jean Vernon. The Receptionist buzzes through to Jean and tells her. Vera tells Anne that she will be able to make it and tells her that she will see her later and puts the phone down. The receptionist tells Steve to go through and see Jean.

Jean is trying to get a drawer in her filing cabinet open when Steve walks in. Jean asks him if he has landed himself with more work at the prison and he tells her that he has been giving Karen Travers' future some thought. He helps Jean open the drawer and tells her that he has been thinking whether or not Karen would be interested in doing some outside study at University and asks Jean whether she would be interested. Jean tells him that she would have to tell Mrs Davidson who then have to refer it to the Director of Corrective Services as it would be his decision. Jean tells her that she can't see it happening as Mrs Davidson isn't feeling too good about work release at the moment. Steve tells her that he would have to talk to Karen about it and then leaves her office.

Karen is waiting in the interview room when Steve walks in with Meg. Meg closes the door and Steve asks to see her alone. Meg tells her that as he isn't representing her any more he can't. He sits down and tells Karen that he and Miss Vernon had been wondering what she intends to do once she is released. Karen tells him that as its 18 months away she hadn't thought. Steve tells her to think about it and she tells him that she doesn't know as she probably wouldn't be allowed to teach again. Steve recommends going to University and getting a different job. Karen tells him that it wouldn't matter what she did, she would never get a job with the things that have happened in the past. Steve tells her that it wouldn't be easy but if she got a degree in sociology she could get a similar job to Jean Vernon. Karen comments that she would be working in a prison and he tells her that there are other areas. Karen tells him that she would be at least 50% qualified and he tells her that she might be able to attend university whilst she was in prison and she asks him if it would be possible. He tells her that it might be and asks her if she would be interested and she tells him that she would. Steve tells her that he will try and arrange it and will be in touch soon. Karen asks him why he is doing it and he tells her that he doesn't need a reason and Karen leaves the interview room. Steve thanks Meg for dinner and asks her what she thinks Karen's chances are of going to University. Meg tells her that if she is allowed he will be able to see her under more normal circumstances. Steve asks her if it's that obvious and Meg tells him that it is as he talked of nothing but Karen when he was having dinner with her. Steve tells her that it would be better seeing her in a better place than in prison and Meg asks her why he is helping her, if it's for his sake more than hers. Steve asks her if it matters and Meg smiles and walks down the corridor.

Karen is walking down the corridor when Lynn comes running up behind her and tells her that Mr Butterfield is taking her back so she still has a job. Karen is pleased for her and tells her that she might be getting out during the day too. They smile and hug as Vera walks down the corridor and asks Karen if she is taking Franky Doyle's place. Karen is disgusted and Vera tells them that they have had enough time off work and tells them to get moving. She asks Lynn if she has finished cleaning Susan's cell and Lynn tells her that she has as the bell rings. Karen comments that work is now over for the day and Vera walks back up the corridor, leaving them both smiling. Karen comments that she is revolting woman and Lynn tells her to go with her as she told Susan she would let her know what happened.

Jean is talking to Erica in Erica's office. Erica tells her that she will have to think about things. Jean tells her that she knows that the work release got off to a bad start but it won't happen again as she thinks that Karen isn't going to throw away her career. Erica tells her that she did once before and tells Jean that she knows what she is trying to do for the women and agrees with her in principle but she tells her that isn't it going to make any hasty decisions and will think about it. Jean tells her that she needs to talk to her about Susan Rice needing psychiatric help. Erica asks her if Susan asked for it and Jean tells her that she thinks she needs it. Erica asks her why she thinks this and Jean tells her that she has a gut feeling about it. Erica tells her that a gut feeling isn't a professional analysis. Erica asks her if she spoke to Dr. Miller and she tells her that she did. Erica assumes that he doesn't agree with her. Jean tells her that he hasn't spoken to her as much as she has as it isn't just what does or says, but also her reaction to things. Erica tells her that they will keep her under observation and will mention it to the officers and if in a couple of days time she still feels that Susan needs help then she will organise it but they will need more proof than Jean's intuition.

Susan is outside in the garden talking to Lynn and Karen. Lynn has told Susan about her news and Susan tells her how nice it is. Lynn tells her that she hasn't been in long enough to really want to get out. Susan tells them that she will be getting off after her trial which makes a difference. Lynn asks her why she needs to shoplift as she could have anything if she wants it. Susan tells them that she did it to make Freddie come back to her as she thinks he might if he knew she was in trouble. Susan tells them that the only good thing is that the children are too young to understand. Karen asks her how many she has and she tells them that she has two, aged 3 and 5. Karen asks her who is looking after them and Susan tells them that her mother is looking after them and she is really good with them. She goes on to say that Freddie doesn't know what he is missing as they go through so many wonderful stages. She asks them if they have any children and they both shake their heads. Susan tells them that she loves her husband but her children are her life now, something which she hadn't thought about before.

In reception, Steve Wilson is signing out when a man named Gilbert from the Family Court arrives to see the Governor. The receptionist buzzes through to what is presumed to be the staff room for the officer of the day to escort him to see the Governor. Jean walks into reception and asks Steve how things went with Karen. He tells her that she has agreed and Jean tells him not to build her hopes up too high as the Governor is only thinking about it. Steve invites Jean out to dinner and she tells him she can't. He tells her that he is going to the University to pick up Sociology course details and she would be a great help. She considers it and Steve tells her that she does know the course and that it would save him a lot of trouble. She then accepts, telling him that it has to be business before pleasure. Steve tells her that he will pick her up at 6:30. He leaves reception and the Receptionist gives Jean some letters. Meg walks in and takes Gilbert to see Mrs Davidson.

Later, in Mrs Davidson's office, Gilbert introduces himself and Erica asks him what they can do for him. He opens his briefcase and brings out some papers and tells Erica that he has received notice of an application of the custody of Susan's children and that he would like it passed on to her. Erica asks if her husband made the application and he tells her that he did and that the pre trial has been set for a week's time. Gilbert explains that if Susan is sentenced for the charges against her then they will apply for the custody of the prisoner to be sent over to the Family Court. Erica tells him that she is aware of the procedure and he leaves her office.

Next, Jean is telling Susan in Erica's office that the pre trial is to set the day for the divorce case but in the mean time it will also decide who gets custody of her children. Susan is reading the application for the custody of her children. Susan tells her that they are her children and that he has never shown any interest in them before, then asks her why he would want to her hurt in the way that he has. She goes on to say that his Mum can't look after them as she doesn't even like them. Erica tells her that she will be given the chance to speak out at the hearing. Susan asks if they will be able to take her babies from her and Erica apologises, telling her that there is nothing they can do and sends her out. Meg is also present. Erica is furious, telling them that she hates it when something like this happens as they have a hard enough time without playing tug of war over children. Meg tells her that she thinks she coped with the news really well. Erica agrees, telling her that she couldn't see any signs of mental instability. Jean tells Erica that Meg is right; she has her head buried too deeply in text books.

Susan walks back into her cell and puts the application in her wardrobe then walks over to her bed and rips up the sheet that is on it.

In the recroom, Karen and Lynn are watching TV, Bea, Doreen and Lizzie are playing cards. Bea tells Lizzie to stop cheating when Susan walks in and Bea asks her what's wrong, she tells her that she is fine and then Lynn asks her if she is okay as she looks sick. Susan sits down and Doreen sits next to her and asks her to tell them about Jason Richards. She asks her what he is like and if she has ever met him. Susan tells Doreen that he is a bastard. Doreen tells her that he isn't, he is the greatest. Susan tells her that she has never met him. Doreen tells her that she would do anything to meet him as he is gorgeous. Susan tells her that he destroyed her marriage as he broke up her and Freddie's relationship. Doreen asks her if he is a queer and she tells her that he is. Doreen gets angry and tells her that he isn't. Bea and Lizzie laugh as Doreen tells herself that it would be just her luck. Susan tells her that he isn't queer; he is just mean and selfish and has turned her husband against her who is going to try and get custody of her children. Doreen tells her that he isn't that bad and Bea tells her to lay off.

Vera signs out and one of the officers tells her that a parcel has arrived for one of the women and asks her to deliver it. Vera tells her that Mrs Jackson is the officer of the day and she will see to it. The officer tells Vera that she has already gone home and Vera tells her that she will. Vera checks through the parcel when the officer and Greg, who walks into reception, sign out. Jean walks in and tells Greg that she can't make their dinner date. Greg asks her if anything serious has happened. Jean tells her that it's business; she is helping Steve to get information for Karen on University courses. Greg looks disappointed. Vera comments that she shouldn't put so much importance on her job and Greg comments that he thought that that was the kind of attitude Vera liked and leaves.

Vera walks out of the prison George is waiting for her. He tells her that he thought she wouldn't mind if he picked her up and she tells him that she is running late. She gets into his car and he tells her that Anne told him that she had rung, telling her that she couldn't make. He asks her if that was an excuse just so that she didn't have to see him. Vera doesn't say anything and he gets in the car and tells Vera that he thinks it would make things better if he told her what he did and she agrees. He tells her that he will tell her at Anne's but is going to take her back to her place so that she can get changed and then they can go somewhere quiet where they won't be disturbed. Vera comments that Anne will be expecting them and George tells her that he has put it off until later as they need some time together and then he drives off.

Bea, Doreen and Lizzie are still playing cards in the recroom. Bea tells her that she still thinks Lizzie is cheating and Lizzie tells her that she isn't. Karen tells Susan that they always give custody to the mother and Lynn comments that her husband is always working and that her mum sounds lovely. Doreen tells them that they should be celebrating. Bea asks her what for and Doreen tells her that Lynn got her job back and Karen might be getting out. Bea agrees, telling them that it's about time the place was livened up and asks them to clear the floor so that they can do some dancing. Doreen asks if Lizzie and her can do the singing number that they used to do. Doreen explains that some singers came in and Bea complains as they have seen it before. Doreen and Lizzie start singing and dancing. Everybody, except Susan joins in with the song. She has flashbacks to one of Jason Richards performances and stands up, screaming for them all them to stop and then runs out of the recroom.

Vera and George are drinking in a bar. George tells Vera about his family and asks her how long she looked after her Mum. Vera tells him that she looked after her for 12 years. George tells her that she can't have got out much and Vera tells him that she had her job, which kept her busy. George asks her if she likes her job and Vera tells him that she is good at it. Vera asks him why he wants to take her out and he tells her that he thought that was obvious. Vera tells him that she thought he would have known plenty of more interesting, attractive women. George tells her to stop putting herself down and Vera tells him that she isn't fooling herself, she is old and hard before her time. George asks her who told her those things and Vera tells him that it was her mother. George tells her that he sees a real woman who is just a little girl, someone who doesn't know how to be a woman because she has never had the opportunity to be one. Vera tells him that she isn't feeling comfortable and George tells her that she wants to be someone who stands on her own two feet all the time, he tells her that he used to be the same. George tells her that they have more in common than she thinks.

At Anne's apartment, Vera is telling Anne about her date with George. She tells Anne that she had a lovely time. George gives them both a drink and Vera tells Anne that she wants to stay the way she is feeling forever and George agrees. Vera tells them that she has had some of the happiest days of her life so far and thanks George. George tells her that the best is yet to come. They sit down and George tells Anne that he is going to tell Vera about the business. Vera tells him that she doesn't want to know about it any more and Anne tells her that she should know. George tells Vera that Anne works for him and is one of his best contacts. Anne tells him that it pays well and they live well out of it. Anne tells Vera that she has told George that she might want to go into the business with them. Anne tells her that she worked for George when she was working at the prison and now they need a replacement. Vera asks her what she would have to do and Anne tells her that she would be taking in some supplies. George tells her that part of his business is dealing in drugs.

Later, George tells Vera that she has got it all wrong; they have obviously had a row. Vera tells him that there had to be some reason for him being so nice and he tells her that it isn't true. Vera tells him that all he wanted to do was come back to the apartment after they had been together and laugh about it. She tells him that she isn't going to be used. George asks her to listen to him and she tells him that she has listened to him too much. Anne tells Vera to grow up as she is not a child. Vera tells him that that line has been used before and goes on to tell him not to worry, she won't tell anyone as she doesn't want anyone to know that she has been so easily used. Vera picks up her bag and leaves.

Anne tells George to leave Vera alone and George tells her to shut up. Anne tells him that she should have known as Vera was always someone who would bend the rules, but never break them. She tells him not to worry as she will find someone else.

The next morning Vera is trying to get Bea out of bed and Lizzie says good morning to her. Vera tells her to get a move on. Lynn comments to Bea and Karen as she walks down the corridor with them that Vera must have got out of the wrong side of the bed. Bea tells them that they should know that anyone who sleeps alone will always get out of the wrong side of the bed and the women laugh. Vera tells Lynn that if she says anything else then she will be reported to the Governor as she would be interested to know how Lynn was behaving. Bea tells her that she knows that Lynn didn't say anything and she has witnesses. Karen quickly takes Lynn further on down the corridor, telling her that she can't afford to get into trouble. Vera is about to punish Bea when Lizzie asks her if she can do anything for her. Vera tells her to get out of her sight. Lizzie makes a comment about being pretty and Doreen tells her that she is going too far.

Vera opens Susan's cell door and sees the ripped up sheets. She asks her what she has been doing and if she has gone out of her mind. Susan says nothing. Doreen and Bea look into her cell. Vera tells Susan that she will never learn and tells her to clean up the mess. Susan gets up and starts to clean up the mess and Bea and Doreen walk away. Vera tells her to hurry up.

Steve is in reception and an officer asks him to wait in the interview room to see Karen. Jean walks in and comments that he is in bright and early. Steve tells her that he has come to tell Karen the news about the University courses. Steve tells her that she was a great help and Jean tells him that she got a nice dinner out of it. Steve walks out of reception and Jean asks the officer if there is any mail. The officer tells her that she will have a look. Vera brings Susan in with the ripped up sheets and Susan apologises for what she has done. Vera tells the officer to replace the ripped up sheets and note down the cost. She then tells Susan that the bill will be taken out of her earnings. Susan tells her that she intends to pay for them. Jean asks what happened and Vera tells her that she doesn't deserve to be given any more. Jean tells her that she would like to talk to Susan.

Jean and Susan are in her office, she asks Susan why she did it and then tells her that the Family Law Courts are very fair and will know what to do for the best for her children. Jean asks her if that's what she wants and Susan tells her that she has been in prison. Jean tells her that they won't take her children away from her just because she has been in prison. She also tells her that her mother has been very good at looking after them which will go in her favour. Susan asks her what will happen if they find out that her mother has been ill. Jean asks her what she means and Susan tells her that her mother has a bad heart. Jean asks her why she ripped up the sheets and then wonders if she knows why. She tells Susan that she thinks she needs help, which is nothing to worry about. Susan tells her that it isn't her that needs help its Jason Richards that needs help, he wrapped her husband round his little finger and now he is starting on her which is why he needs help. She asks Jean how she thinks she can stop him as he his destroying her husband and now he is starting on her. She tells her that shed thinks she knows everything and then screams at her that she knows nothing and pushes some things off her desk. Jean buzzes for help from Greg. Susan starts crying and then tells her that Freddie is only doing what he is doing because Jason is telling him too and that Freddie is scared of losing his job.

Greg brings Susan into reception; Vera is sat at the desk and asks him what she has done. Greg tells her that he has given her a mild sedative and told to rest. Vera tells him that she has to see the Governor and Greg tells her to do it later as he doesn't want her to get upset. Vera asks him if he has seen what she has done and tells him that she can't get away with it. Greg tells her that he has talked to Mrs Davidson about it and they are bringing in a psychiatrist. Vera asks him if she should be in hospital. Greg tells her that she will be alright if she put back in her cell and made to rest. Greg leaves reception and an officer comes in and tells Vera that there is a man outside to see her and has told the officer that he is a friend of Vera's. Vera tells the officer to take Susan back to her cell and she takes her out. Vera then leaves reception.

Lynn is putting some rocks into a wheel barrow in the prison garden and Doreen walks up to her, telling her that Mrs Jackson has sent her to help her. Doreen asks her if they have told her to do hard labour and Lynn tells her that she wants to build a border in the garden. Doreen looks out onto the road and sees George waiting near his car. She asks Lynn who she thinks he might be and Lynn tells her that she doesn't know. She then sees Vera walking up to him and Lynn tells her to get on with the work. Doreen tells her that she just wants to look at what is happening.

George admits that he wanted to get to know Vera at first because he thought he could use her but he tells her that it's all changed. Vera tells him that he is just saying it because he is afraid she knows too much. George tells her that he doesn't care whether she believes him or not but she is going to listen to him when he tells her that he didn't mean to or want to hurt her. George tells her that he admits that he has been a user all his life, he tells her that most of the women wanted to be used as they were greedy. He tells Vera that she is different as she could be a warm, caring woman. George tells her that he doesn't want to change that over something that's happened. He then tells her that he cares and kisses her. Doreen can't believe what she has seen.

In the laundry Lizzie snatches Karen's course details and she asks for them back. Lizzie asks her if there are any pictures and Karen tells her that there aren't. Lizzie then shows it to Bea and asks her why anyone would want to look at it. Bea asks Karen where it's going to get her and Karen tells her that she wants to get into social work.
