Episode Details
Erica can’t believe that Anne hasn’t been found. Meg tells her that if Anne got her hands on a uniform she would Officer Yates again to an outsider and could have escaped easily. Erica asks her where she could have got one and Meg tells her that her friends might have helped her. Vera tells her that she is talking rubbish. Erica asks if she had any friends on the staff and Meg asks Vera. Vera tells them that she wouldn’t know. Erica tells Meg to unlock the cells and let the women eat their meal in the Dining Room which is to be strictly supervised. Vera asks her if they are still going to look for Anne and Erica tells her that they are going to stop looking and inform the police.
Meg arrives home later and is talking to Jean about what’s happened and tells her that Vera and Anne were friends on the outside. Jean is disgusted and tells Meg that the Governor should be told. Jean tells her that she is upset about Susan and blames Steve for some of what happened to her. Meg implies that Jean fancies Steve which she denies. The phone rings; Steve asks Meg if she can talk to Jean. Steve invites Jean out to dinner and she accepts, explaining to Meg that she can tell him what she thinks of him.
Later Steve arrives to pick up Jean and she tells him that the evening won’t be a great one and they leave.
Vera arrives home to champagne, roses and George. She explains that Anne has disappeared and gets jealous when he shows concern for her. George explains that Anne blackmailed him into getting protection from Vera as she knows a lot about George and his business and sent a letter to her solicitor telling him everything.
Monica is telling Kath that Bea has allowed her to take over. They speculate over where Anne might be and Monica suggests that one of the women has killed her.
Steve and Jean are sat at the table in the restaurant. Steve tells her about his parents and that he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Steve explains that he has arranged for her to meet Clara Goddard. Clara arrives and explains to Jean that she wants to open a half way house and asks her to help. Jean asks her how much money she would be putting into the project and Clara tells her that it would be around $80,000 and asks her how it would be best used. Jean tells her to give it to the Salvation Army and she refuses. Steve tells her that Clara wants the women to run it themselves and Jean tells him that it would be impossible. Steve tells her that he thinks Karen Travers would be able to run the half way house.
Later, Jean arrives home and is unimpressed with Steve and his attitude towards Clara, simply because she is rich. Jean tells her that he is only impressed by her because she has money. Steve tells her that she is really good with figures and Jean tells him that he is only using Clara to get what he wants. Steve gets angry and leaves.
At breakfast the next morning, Monica and Noeline argue in the queue. Noeline tells Monica that Bea is the only one allowed to jump the queue and Monica explains that she is taking Bea’s place as Bea told her too. Lizzie distracts a screw and punches Noeline then sets her up to make it look like Noeline attacked her and Noeline is taken out of the Dining Room. Monica asks if she can take over in the laundry and is told that the Governor will have to be informed.
Jean is eating her breakfast with Meg. She tells her what happened with Steve the previous night. Jean tells her that she won’t be seeing him again and won’t help him any more.
Mum is watering a plant in the living room of her flat when Judith-Anne opens the door to Meg. Meg asks about Judith-Anne and Mum enquires about the women. Meg tells her that Bea has been stabbed and that she can’t go and see her under the conditions of her parole. Meg tells her where she is and Mum explains that she will take the flowers in soon. Meg tells Mum not to let Jean know that she has been to visit as Prison Officers aren’t allowed to socialise with any criminals. Mum tells her that she won’t say anything. Mum asks about Lynn and is told that she is doing well at the nursery.
Lizzie is talking about Anne in the laundry and no one objects to Monica working the press. Vera tells Lizzie to shut up and work. Lizzie opens the drier door and screams as an arm falls out.
Sergeant Grace is in Erica’s office with Vera and he thinks that Anne was murdered. Erica tells him that she was suffocated accidentally as she was hiding from the women and locked the door from the inside. Vera tells him that it could have been an accident as she remembers closing the drier door. She goes on to explain that she knew it was wrong to put her in with the other women. Sergeant Grace tells them that Meg was the last person to see her alive. Erica explains that she was escorting Anne to sick bay when one of the other prisoners was attacked. Sergeant Grace tells Erica that Meg can tell him all about it. Erica tells him that she will when she is back on duty.
Geoff is talking to Lynn at the nursery and tries to remove thorns from her hand. Lynn tells her that she thought he had fallen out with her as he has hardly spoken to her. Sid appears and tells Lynn to stop talking and get on with her work. He tells Geoff that he needs some help and separates them.
Monica visits Noeline in solitary and tells her that she is taking over and had better get used to it or will end up in the infirmary. She goes on to tell her what happened to Anne and then implies that Noeline killed her.
Mum tells Judith-Anne about Bea Smith and what happened to her and Judith-Anne tells her that they can go and visit her with some flowers. After some convincing, Mum agrees.
Steve is talking to Charles and tells him about the cases at Wentworth. He is upset that so many of them involve legal aid and that they are not a charity. He walks into his office. Clara walks in to see Steve and apologises about Jean. Clara tells him not to give up on Jean as Charles walks back in to the room. He introduces Clara and she tells him that Steve is helping her with lots of charitable things. Charles tells him that they like to help out where they can. Clara leaves and Steve accuses him of being a hypocrite as Clara is very charitable. Charles explains that he likes her because she is rich.
Noeline bangs on her cell door. Meg opens the window and asks her what she wants. Noeline tells her that she wants to see the Governor and Meg refuses to believe her and leaves. Noeline starts banging again and Meg tells her that she won’t warn her again. Noeline tells her that she knows who killed Anne and that the Governor should know.
Judith-Anne opens the door to her flat and invites Jean in. Jean enquires about Mum and tells Judith-Anne that she is now sharing with Meg. Judith-Anne tells Jean that she has been to the flat and visits Mum often. Jean makes her excuses and leaves.
Sergeant Grace is questioning Monica in Erica’s office. He tells her that he thinks she killed Anne Yates and that there are witnesses to prove it. Monica tells Erica that she was with Bea and she tells Monica that she wasn’t with her the whole time as Meg had to come looking for her. Monica tells her that she was in the toilet, which is where Meg found her. Erica tells Meg to put Monica in solitary. They leave and Erica tells Sergeant Grace that Monica is serving time for assault. He tells her that she seems violent and Erica tells him that she doesn’t share the same faith in Noeline Burke as a witness as he does. Erica tells him that Noeline claims Monica hit Anne with an iron but Greg’s report shows no signs of a blow to the head. Sergeant Grace claims that the autopsy will show otherwise. He goes on to tell Erica that the prisoners knew that Anne was good friends with Vera and that he will need to question her also.
In Vera’s flat, George tells Vera that they can’t stay and Vera tells him that Anne might have been bluffing and there may be no letter. He tells her that they will be and asks her to go with him. She tells him that she can’t, as she may be Governor one day. George asks her if she loves him and she tells him that she does. He tells her that they can leave soon and that they can go anywhere. George tells her to pack a suitcase and will call her when he is ready to leave. Vera is concerned that she hardly knows him and he tells her that she knows all she needs too.
Meg walks into her flat; Jean is sat on the sofa. Jean tells her that she has found out that she has been visiting Mum and compares her to Vera being friends with Anne Yates. Meg tells her that Mum isn’t a real criminal (!) Jean tells her that with Mum’s connections she can’t see her anymore and that if they got caught Mum would lose her parole.
The next morning, George gives Vera an envelope and leaves the flat, telling her to bring it with her when she leaves, reassuring her that it doesn’t contain any drugs. She calls Wentworth and tells them she is having the day off, as she is sick.
Lynn is at work. Sid tells her to get on with her work and to leave Geoff alone. Lynn walks off and Geoff appears. Sid tells him to get on with his work and leave Lynn alone. Lynn follows Geoff as he is carrying a plant and she asks him what’s wrong with Sid. Geoff tells her that he hasn’t got a problem with her but with him. He tells her that his Dad has got a problem with a girl he likes. When asks him what the problem is he tells her that she has been in Jail. Lynn gets upset that he has found out. Geoff asks her if he can take her back to the prison after work and she thanks him for not thinking like everyone else.
Vera is at home waiting for the phone to ring, pacing up and down her flat.
Sergeant Grace walks into Erica’s office with the autopsy report and tells Erica that Noeline was lying. Erica tells him that Noeline will be put in solitary and Monica released. He tells her that he still needs to question Vera.
Mum and Judith-Anne arrive at the hospital with the plant for Bea. The policewoman tells her that she can’t have it because they are not allowed. Mum asks to see her and is told she can’t. She then asks to pass Bea a note and is told that she will have to read it first. Mum tells her it contains no secrets. The policewoman tells her that Bea is getting better.
Vera opens the envelope and money falls out, there is a knock at the door and she stuffs the envelope and the money in a drawer. Sergeant Grace walks in and notices her cases. He questions her about her friendship with Anne and she tells him that she knew her because she worked at the prison and they weren’t close. The phone rings and George realises the police are in Vera’s flat and he tells her to deny everything. He tells her to keep the money and that he will be in touch soon. Sergeant Grace leaves as Vera’s convinces him that she knew nothing about Anne or anyone she was associated with. Vera looks out of the window and cries.
Jean arrives at Steve’s office and apologises for her behaviour the previous night. She tells him that she will still help with the halfway house project. Charles walks in and tells Steve to take Jean out to lunch before walking out again.
