PREVIOUSLY.....

Cindy walks into Lisa's cell and tells Lisa not to try talking to Ros or she'll be sorry. Lisa loses her rag and punches Cindy, telling her to get out of her sight. Kath tells Lisa she shouldn't have done that.

Edwina enters the dining room, and one of the workmen shouts out:

Workman (Trigger): Bloody hell it's old Steele claws.

Brumby: You know her?

Trigger: Sure as hell I do. This bitch was a screw at the prison where my sister was doing time, about 3 years ago. She supervised a couple of our visits. She was a right hard-faced bitch, according to Sheila.

(There is a gasp across the dining room and they all stare at Edwina.)

Brumby: She's a bloody screw.

Everyone: Screw bitch, screw bitch, screw bitch..................................................

Edwina opens her mouth and tells them everything she overheard during the officers meeting. This causes an uproar and tables start flying across the room. Kath calms them down again and tells Ann that nobody is being transferred. Just then Amanda screams, a workman is lying on the floor with his head cut.

Meg goes to Ann and tells her she suspects Joan might be staying at Cynthia's. Ann says it probably was just a friend but perhaps they should call the police anyway. She then informs Meg that Rita has died and they'll need to inform the women in the morning.

Lisa gets into bed and tells Ros it will probably blow over in the morning. Lisa is surprised when she answers back - she then realises that Cindy has swapped places with Ros to get her own back on punching her earlier. Cindy jumps on Lisa and kicks her in the stomach. Lisa falls to the floor in pain. Cindy kicks her again..........

Episode 752

Lisa yells out in pain and tells Cindy to stop or she'll kill the baby. Cindy remarks that she doesn't care about the baby. Kath hears Lisa shout and asks her if she's ok. When she doesn't reply, Kath starts banging on the door for an officer - soon all the women join in. Pat Slattery opens Kath's hatch.

Pat: What's all this commotion about, Maxwell?

Kath: It's Lisa. I think she's in trouble.

Pat looks in on Lisa and sees her unconscious on the floor, lying in a pool of blood.

Pat: Oh my God. What's happened?

Cindy: She fell out of bed.

Pat: I'm going to get an ambulance. You're in big trouble Simpson.

Kath
(shouts): What's up with Lisa? What's going on?

Pat: Quiet Maxwell.

Kath
(shouts): You're dead Simpson.

Merle
(crying): I don't like all this shouting Kath. Make it stop.

Kath
(cuddles Merle): It's all right Merle. It's over now. Well for some anyway!

The next morning, Pat is working in reception when Ann arrives. Pat tells her what happened and that Lisa is in hospital, she's still unconscious. Roslyn is in solitary.

Ann: Roslyn? Are you sure?

Pat: Yes. It turned out that her shyness was just an act.

Ann: They couldn't have just swapped places somehow? I could believe it of Cindy, but Roslyn!

Pat: I did think of that, but Roslyn gave her name when I asked her. I don't think even Cindy would let her own sister take the blame for something like that.

Ann: Well I want them both brought to my office separately please, and I'll see whichever one is in solitary first.

Pat: Certainly governor.

Delia brings Cindy to the governor's office, but she swears blind she is Roslyn. Ann decides she doesn't believe her and asks Delia to go and get the other twin. While Delia is gone, Ann warns the remaining twin that she'll be in even bigger trouble if she's lying.

The women are in the dining room having breakfast, and Kath tells Roslyn that if Lisa or the baby dies then her sister will pay. Roslyn is shocked at what Cindy has done, and tells Kath that she had no part in it.

Brumby: I say we bash her now. They're twins, and what one does the other always stands by it.

Kath: There will be no bashings. Roslyn will have a chance to choose who's side she's on when the time comes, but I repeat - nobody is to be bashed!

Brumby: Maybe it's time we got ourselves a new top dog then.

Kath: Who? You? Don't make me laugh. You haven't got the intelligence to run a kindergarten Tucker.

Brumby: Well we'll see about that.

Merle: Don't you be mean to Kath. She's the best top dog ever.

Brumby
(sarcastically): Yeah sure she is.

Delia enters the dining room and tells Marty that she has to take Simpson.

Marty: OK Simpson, you're to go with Miss Stout to the governor's office.

Delia: Well come on get a move on.

Roslyn goes over to Delia.

Delia: Just one moment, Simpson. What's your first name?

Roslyn: It's Ros miss.

Delia: I thought as much. Well come on let's not keep the governor waiting.

Delia returns to Ann's office with Roslyn.

Delia: Well she's confirmed she's Roslyn, governor.

Ann
(looking at Cindy): So you were lying.

Cindy: No it's Cindy who's lying. She's always trying to get me in trouble.

Roslyn: Not this time Cindy. I'm not taking the rap for you again. You're on your own from now on, I don't need you anymore.

Cindy
(flies at Roslyn): You rotten bitch, I'll kill you for this.

Delia pulls Cindy off but gets smacked in the eye. Ann calls for back-up. Cindy climbs over the desk and pulls the phone off Ann, then grabs her by the throat. Just then Cynthia enters the room and smacks Cindy across the back of the head, knocking her out cold.

Ann: I want that woman in solitary now.

Cynthia: Right away governor.

Ann: Delia. I want you to see the sister, that's a nasty bruise to your eye. Are you ok Simpson?

Roslyn: Yes. I just.....

Ann: What?

Roslyn: I just want you to know, that I hope they throw the book at her.

Ann: Oh they will. I'll make sure of that.

Delia: Can I speak to you alone please Mrs. Reynolds?

Wally has just arrived at reception and is talking to Meg about Merle and Lisa. Delia comes through in tears, sporting a black eye and carrying her coat and handbag. She signs out.

Meg: Delia! Whatever's happened.

Delia: Cindy went mad and punched me. I'm through with this place, I've had enough.

Meg: Don't make any rash decisions Delia. We all have bad days.

Delia: I can't take anymore. I've told Mrs. Reynolds that I can't work here anymore and she's agreed to let me leave now. Bye Meg.

Delia leaves the prison and Meg looks at Wally.

Ann is on the phone to the department. There is a knock on her door and Meg enters the office. Ann puts the phone down.

Ann: Damn the department. They're refusing to have Cindy moved to another prison.

Meg: But dont they realise that the other women will kill her for what she did to Lisa.

Ann: Well she'll have to be kept in solitary until the VJ has seen her. That will probably be a couple of days. She can't go to isolation because the workmen are working there.

Meg: What's happening with Edwina, I thought she was going back there?

Ann: No, unfortunately we're stuck with her for now. Maxwell has promised me she'll come to no harm, but we'll have to keep an eye on her.

Meg: Hopefully the women will have learnt their lesson after yesterday's fiasco. When are you going to tell them about Rita?

Ann: Can you have them assembled in the rec-room please Meg. I'd rather get it over with now.

Meg: Yes certainly. Oh what's this about Delia leaving?

Ann: Well I don't want to see her go, obviously, but I couldn't talk her out of it.

Meg: It's always the good ones that go. And we're left with Cynthia Leach!

Ann: Actually I have quite a bit to thank that woman for. She was the one who saved me when Simpson went mad.

Meg: Oh no, does that mean we have to be nice to her?

Ann
(laughs): Well for the time being anyway. Did you call the police in the end with your suspicions about her hiding Ferguson?

Meg: No. The more I think about it the more I think it probably was just a friend. I doubt if she'd be that stupid, and I don't think she and Joan were all that close.

Ann: I hope you're right, Meg, but Ferguson still hasn't been caught.

Meg: Perhaps I should let the police know my suspicions then.

Some of the women are working in the laundry. Brumby and some of the others are making life difficult for Edwina by keep knocking into her. Edwina finally goes mad and has a go at them.

Edwina: Ok that is enough. I won't tolerate this any longer.

Brumby: God you still sound like a screw.
(mocks) "I won't tolerate this any longer".

Edwina grabs Brumby by the arm and twists it behind her back. Brumby yells out in pain. Edwina: Have you had enough? I can quite easily break your arm.

Brumby: Alright....ow....I'm sorry.

Edwina lets go and Kath steps in.

Kath: That's enough you lot. I'm sick to death of all this violence.

Merle: Kath's right. It's stupid.

Brumby: Shut up Merle.

Kath: You shut up Tucker. From now on we all stick together, and that includes ex-screws. Ok?

Brumby: No way.

Kath: Tucker!

Brumby: Shove it Maxwell.

Brumby goes to leave the laundry as Meg enters.

Meg: What's going on in here?

Brumby: Oh nothing.

Meg: Yes I can see that. You're all to go to the dining room. The governor wants to speak to you.

Brumby: I suppose we're all going to lose our privileges now just cos of that screw-bitch!

Meg: You'll find out when you get there. Come along ladies, could we do it without too much fuss please!

Wally is working next to Roy and Trigger, and 2 other workmen. Roy is shocked when Wally mentions about Lisa being bashed, but pretends he doesn't remember her. Then Wally tells him it'll be a wonder if she doesn't lose the baby. Roy goes pale and runs off.

Wally: Was it something I said?

Trigger: I don't know.
(Looks down the corridor suspiciously).

Joyce is in the kitchen talking to Mervin.

Joyce: Oh I do hope Lisa's alright. The poor girl. Oh and that poor baby.

Mervin: Come on Joycie, don't upset yourself.
(hugs her)

Joyce: Oh Mervin, what would I do without you.

Mervin looks like he is feeling very guilty about something.

Rodney walks into the staffroom while Marty is alone in there.

Rodney: I hear Delia's left. Couldn't hack it any longer I suppose.

Marty: You just love kicking people when they're down don't you Rodney.

Rodney: Touch a raw nerve did I Jackson? You missing your girlfriend?

Marty: You really are a sad individual Rodney. Can't a man and a woman just be friends? I suppose you wouldn't know, having no friends of your own. Oh what's the point. Delia was worth ten of you.

Marty walks out of the staffroom and Cynthia walks in and makes herself a coffee.

Cynthia: What's the matter with him?

Rodney: Oh he's just upset cos his girlfriend left.

Cynthia: Well she shouldn't have been in the job in the first place if she didn't like violence. She'd be better suited to social work, and leave the tough stuff to the professionals.

Rodney: I couldn't agree more. By the way I'd like to commend you on the excellent way you handled Simpson.

Cynthia: I was only doing my job.

Rodney: Well you do it better than some around here.

Cynthia: That wouldn't be hard.

Ann speaks to all the women in the recroom and tells them about Rita dying, and Alice being transferred to Barnhurst. The women go quiet.

Ann: I know it's not much comfort, but at least she's in no more pain.

Kath: Will any of us be allowed to attend the funeral.

Ann: I'm sorry. I doubt whether the department would approve. I can arrange for some flowers to be sent if you like.

Kath: That would be nice. Thanks. Is there any news on Lisa?

Ann: I'm afraid not. I'll let you know as soon as we get any.

The women are unusually quiet when they are back in the laundry. Roy pokes his head through the door and calls Kath over.

Roy: I heard about Lisa. Is it true she's pregnant?

Kath: Yes. I can't believe she hasn't told you yet though.

Roy: She can't lose it, she just can't.

Kath
(surprised): You want this baby?

Roy: You bet. It's what I've always wanted - a kid, I'm going to go and visit Lisa, tell her everything will be alright.

Kath: Well give her our love if you do.

Roy: Sure thing.

Ann is on the phone again when, once again, Meg knocks and enters the office. Ann informs her that the department have refused to let any prisoner attend Rita's funeral, although Alice will be able to attend from Barhurst.

Meg: Well I'd have been more shocked if they'd agreed. Have you heard any news on the head of department job yet?

Ann: I've just been informed that I have to see the minister first thing tomorrow morning.

Meg: Well good luck, even though you won't need it.

Ann: Do you know, I think you're right Meg. The minister practically told me on the phone that I'd got the job. Still, I'd better not count my chickens just yet.

The next morning Ann goes to the minister's office. She knocks on the door, and is told to come in. Ann enters the office and sees the minister sat next to a rather plump woman in her 40's.

Minister: Ann. Glad you could make it.

Ann: Minister.
(Looks towards woman)

Minister: Oh how rude of me. Ann Reynolds, this is Janet Walsh.

Ann: Pleased to meet you.

Janet: You too. I'm sure we'll work well together.

Ann: I'm sorry. Have I missed something here?

Minister: Sorry, I didn't have time to explain on the phone. You know how it is.

Ann: No, enlighten me.

Minister: Janet is the new head of department, you will be her assistant.

Ann: Assistant?

Minister: Yes. As I said, I didn't have time to explain.

Janet: I'm sure there will be plenty for us both to do, what with all the new projects and everything.

Ann: I'm sorry to waste your time minister, but I think I'll be staying on at Wentworth after all.

Minister: I'm afraid that won't be possible. The new governor is starting next week.

Ann: What?! But I never even accepted the job, I won't let you get away with this.

Minister: Now listen here...

Ann: No you listen. I will be remaining as governor of Wentworth, and if you sack me then I'll sue you for every penny I can get. Not to mention what I'll say to the press.

Minister: Oh very well, I'll sort something out. The new governor won't be happy though.

Ann: Neither am I sir, neither am I!
(goes out slamming the door).

Meg is acting governor, dealing with a request from Amanda to see her solicitor about an appeal. Meg tells her she'll arrange it but she doubts whether she'll get the appeal. Amanda thanks her and Cynthia escorts her out of the office. On the way back in the corridor, Cynthia starts on Amanda.

Cynthia: I think you and me could do each other a favour.

Amanda: I doubt it, but go on.

Cynthia: Well I can 'have a word' with your solicitor, and get him to see sense about your appeal, and you can help me by taking over as top dog.

Amanda: The women would never have me as top dog. Anyway, they've got Kath.

Cynthia: You leave Maxwell to me. You will take over as top dog Spencer. Otherwise all of the women will find out why you're inside, and you know what they'll do to you then don't you?! Not to mention what I'll do to you.

Ann returns and tells Meg about the interview. Meg can't believe it, but tells Ann she was right not to take the job as she'd just have been a 'department puppet'. They start talking about Helmslough and Ann tells Meg that 6 inmates from each block will be transferred there within a week. She also tells Meg that she's decided to make Brumby the new editor of 'The Stir' to try and keep her out of trouble.

Cynthia goes into Kath's cell and plants some drugs under Kath's mattress.

Helen meets up with her 2 workmen 'friends' outside the flat and tells them it will have to be quick or they'll get caught. They laugh to each other and take her into the flat bedroom. Helen changes her mind, but one of them reminds her that the booze will have to be handed in if she doesn't 'come across', and the screws will hear whose it is, so she reluctantly starts to undress.

Wally tries to talk to Merle and tactfully tells her that they can't get married. Merle flies off the handle and hits Wally across the head, before telling him that she's never going to any of his pottery classes again. Then she storms off. Unfortunately this is secretly witnessed by Cynthia.

Ann visits the hospital and asks the doctor if she can see Lisa. He won't let her in but he does tell her that Lisa has every chance of keeping the baby, which pleases Ann. Ann walks to the car park, and as she is getting into her car Roy gets out of his, and Ann sees him going into the hospital. Judging by her facial reaction, she has just clicked that he is the father of Lisa's baby.

Joyce gets home and is suspicious when a woman phones up asking for Mervin, but she won't say who it is. So she sits and waits for Mervin's return.

Marty announces to Meg at home that he bumped into an old navy mate, and he's asked him to move into his flat with him as he can't afford the rent on his own. Meg is disappointed but understands.

Cynthia barges into reception as Ann returns from the hospital.

Cynthia: Governor. We need to conduct a cell search immediately. I've overheard two of the women talking, and saying that Maxwell has been selling them drugs.

Ann: Maxwell?! I don't believe it.

Cynthia: Are you calling me a liar governor?

Ann: Of course not. Very well, can you organise the cell search then?

Cynthia: Of course governor. Oh there was something else, but I can see you're busy. I'll discuss it with you later.

Ann gives Cynthia an evil look as Cynthia goes off. Then she speaks to Wendy Scott, who has recently returned as a receptionist.

Ann: Wendy, if anyone needs me. I'll be in my office.

Wendy: Yes Mrs. Reynolds.

Phone rings.

Wendy: Wentworth detention centre.... Yes just a moment.... Mrs. Reynolds.

Ann: Yes.

Wendy: It's your daughter on the phone.

Ann: I'm not in.

Wendy: But I've already told her....

Ann: I'm not in! Don't worry, she'll get the message. Eventually!

Joyce hears Mervin returning home and is quite cool with him. She tells him that a woman phoned but wouldn't leave a name. Mervin pretends he doesn't know who it was but she can sense he's lying.

Joyce: Mervin Pringle. Don't you dare lie to me. Now tell me who she is or I'll leave now and never return.

Mervin: I'm sorry Joycie but I can't.

Joyce: You're having an affair aren't you? Well that's it, you're welcome to each other.

Joyce storms out and slams the door behind her.

Mervin: Joycie, come back.

Rodney goes in the shower block and finds Edwina lying there covered in blood.

A police officer turns up at reception and asks Meg if he can speak to Cynthia Leach.

Cynthia and a non-speaking officer are conducting the cell-searches and the women are waiting noisily outside.

Cynthia: Shut up. This is a prison not a social club.

Kath: Well if you told us what you were looking for....

Cynthia: You know darn well what we're looking for Maxwell so you can drop the act. Right it's your cell next.

They turn over Kath and Merle's cell, and the other officer finds a bag of drugs in Kath's mattress.

Cynthia: Well well, what have we here? Drugs? Looks like you're going to be out of action for quite some time Maxwell.

Merle: Kath, are they yours?

Kath: Of course they're not Merle. Any fool can see I've been set up.

Cynthia: She's calling you a fool Merle, that's not very nice is it? Right Maxwell, you're off to the pound, and I wouldn't be surprised if they threw away the key.
(starts laughing as they drag Kath off).............
