PREVIOUSLY.....
After lights out Cindy asks Brumby if she's come up with an escape plan yet, she says she has but she'll have to get on kitchen duty tomorrow if she wants to be in it. Cindy says she can't wait to get out of this hole, and Brumby responds with: "Not half as much as I can't".
Joan calls Cynthia a bitch, and Cynthia picks up the phone and tries to ring the police. Joan pulls the phone out of her hand and punches Cynthia in the face. Cynthia hits her back and they end up fighting on the floor. They fight for several minutes and then Joan grabs Cynthia's head and whacks it on the concrete floor. Cynthia is out cold!
Roy and Lisa arrive back from the hospital, and Roy tells Lisa that he still wants to marry her and everything will be alright. Lisa tells him she just wants to go to bed. Suddenly there is a knock at the door and Roy answers it. Lisa is stood behind him. There are 2 policemen at the door and one of them asks if he is Roy Bateman. Then he is told that he's under arrest for the murder of Adam Bridges. Lisa faints with shock.
Joyce tells Candy she can finally work in the kitchen. When they get there, Mervin, Brumby and Cindy are all working. Candy shouts over to Mervin: "Mervy wervy darling. It's me." Brumby and Cindy look at each other and laugh, Mervin drops his saucepan on the floor. Joyce looks at him in horror as Candy goes up to him and kisses him on the cheek........

Episode 757
Joyce: What on earth?!
Mervin: I can explain Joycie.
Candy: What's to explain Mervy? You're with me now.
Candy puts her arms around Mervin and Joyce runs out of the kitchen wailing. Brumby and Cindy can't stop laughing. Mervin pushes Candy off and goes after Joyce. He catches up with her in the corridor.
Mervin: Joycie. It's not like she said. I mean I'm not with her, it's you that I love.
Joyce: I'm sorry Mervin but I can't deal with this. I need time to think.
Mervin goes back to the kitchen and Brumby and Cindy start to make silly noises.
Mervin: Oh stop being so childish you two and get on with your work.
Mervin grabs Candy.
Mervin: What the hell are you doing here? You've probably destroyed my marriage now.
Candy: I just had to be with you Mervin, and she's an ugly old cow anyway. Why would you want that when you can have me?
Mervin: Because I love her. I love her.
Brumby (whispers to Cindy): I've just had an idea. I think we can get out of here today.
Joan is desperately trying to revive Cynthia. Eventually she comes round and tells Joan she wants her to leave. Joan tells her she'll be out of her hair later that day, but she'll need some more money.
Meg arrives back at the hospital. She sees Paul and Pippa coming towards her and Meg asks if there's any more news on Ann. Pippa starts to sob, but Paul tells Meg that Ann still hasn't regained consciousness and the doctors have warned them that the chances of her waking up are getting more remote by the day. Suddenly Wally arrives at the hospital and surprises them all by telling them he's been sacked from the prison.
Wendy and Marty are in reception, and discussing the fact that Cynthia hasn't arrived yet.
Wendy: It's not like her to be late. She's normally such a stickler for the rules.
Marty: Yes, perhaps we should give her a ring.
Suddenly Cynthia enters.
Cynthia: That won't be necessary thank you, and I don't appreciate my staff gossiping about me behind my back.
Marty: We weren't gossiping. We were just commenting that you're not usually late that's all.
Cynthia: Well if you must know I had urgent family matters to attend to - not that I should really have to explain myself to a junior officer. Now if you don't mind I'd like to go to my office as I have plenty of work to do, as I'm sure you two have.
Cynthia leaves, and Marty and Wendy look at each other in amusement.
Lisa visits Roy in his police cell, and Roy tells her that his solicitor has told him he should get the charge reduced to manslaughter, but he'll probably still get about 5 years. Lisa breaks down and tells him she'll wait for him, but he tells her to move on and forget about him.
Meg, Wally, Paul and Pippa are all sat around at the hospital discussing Cynthia and Ann, amongst other things. Suddenly the doctor arrives and they all fear the worst. Then he smiles and tells them that Ann has regained consciousness. There are cries of relief all round. Then the doctor tells Paul that Ann has been asking to see him. This upsets Pippa, and she starts bawling into Wally's arms.
Lisa comes to visit Kath, and she tells her the whole story. Kath is sympathetic and tells Lisa to keep in touch. Then Lisa tells her that she's going away for a while to sort her head out, but she'll write to her.
Paul returns to the others and tells them that Ann seems fine. Then he tells Pippa that Ann will see her now. Pippa goes in and tells Ann she's "So sorry." Ann tells her she's forgiven and they have a tearful reunion.
Pippa: I really thought I'd lost you. I couldn't bear it if you'd gone without us making up.
Ann: I know darling. Let's just put it all behind us now. How's Ben?
Pippa: Oh he's fine. He sends his love by the way. I've just spoken to him on the phone a minute ago, to give him the good news.
Ann: Is Meg here?
Pippa: Yes. She was really worried too.
Ann: Can you send her in please? I've got something urgent to tell her.
Back in the kitchen, Brumby is talking to Candy whilst peeling the carrots for dinner.
Brumby: How would you like some time on your own with Mervin?
Candy: What in here?
Brumby: Yeah. I can arrange it, and it would be helping us too. The only thing is, it's got to be now.
Candy: Sure, what's happening?
Brumby whispers something to Candy, and Mervin comes over.
Mervin: What are you two whispering about? Come on, we've got to get this stuff ready for dinner.
Candy: Sorry Mervy.
Brumby looks over to Cindy and nods. Cindy goes into the chiller.
Cindy (calls over): Mervin, have we got any butter?
Mervin: Yes it's on the top shelf.
Cindy: Sorry I can't see it.
Mervin (goes over): Oh for heaven's sake girl, can't you do a simple job?
Brumby (to Candy): Now's your chance.
Mervin (finds butter): Here it is look. Can't you use your eyes?
Suddenly Candy enters the chiller, and Cindy pushes the door shut on them both.
Candy: Alone at last.
Mervin: What's going on? Let me out of here now.
Candy: Sorry Mervy, but we'll be in here for a little while so we might as well make the most of it.
Candy forces herself onto Mervin and starts to kiss him. Mervin is helpless.
Brumby and Cindy are rushing around in the kitchen, and Brumby picks up a sharp knife.
Cindy: What are you going to do with that?
Brumby: You'll see. Come on we haven't got much time.
They sneak outside to the garbage area.
Brumby: The truck should be here in a minute.
Cindy: Hell, we're not going inside the garbage truck are we?
Brumby: No. Well not with the rubbish anyway.
Cindy: Ay?
Brumby: Quick the truck's coming. Hide behind this bin.
They dart behind one of the rubbish skips as the truck arrives. The driver backs the truck and the truck starts lifting the rubbish. Brumby throws a large stone at the truck and the driver gets out to investigate. Then Brumby and Cindy get in the passenger side.
Brumby: Keep your head down.
The driver gets back in. He looks and sees the girls.
Driver: Oy. What the hell are you two doing in here?
Brumby sticks the knife slightly in his leg.
Driver: Ow, what the.....
Brumby: Just drive. If you get us out of here then you'll stay in one piece, and we may even do you a favour later if you do as you're told.
Driver: You? I'd have to be desperate.
Brumby: Just drive the truck, and don't say a word.
Meg is sat by Ann's bed talking to her. Ann tells Meg she's got something very important to tell her. The she tells Meg all about how she was about to investigate the murder of Marcia Kennedy when the 'accident' happened.
Meg (shocked): You surely don't think Cynthia had anything to do with the accident?
Ann: I'm sure of it, and she's been itching to get in my chair at Wentworth. I'd dread to think what she's turned the place into.
Meg: But you're talkng about murder and attempted murder. That's heavy.
Ann: I know, but I've got no doubts. Meg, we'll have to be very careful how we handle this. That woman is downright dangerous.
Joyce enters the kitchen and is shocked to find it empty. Suddenly she hears a noise from the chiller and opens the door. She can't believe her eyes when she sees Candy in there with Mervin.
Joyce: Mervin Pringle. What is going on?
Candy: Bloody hell Joyce, you spoiled our fun.
Suddenly Mervin falls to the floor and starts to fit.
Candy: What's going on?
Joyce: Oh Mervin. Mervin.
She bends down and cradles him. Mervin comes round and Joyce hugs him.
Joyce: I'm so sorry I didn't believe you Mervin. I can see what she's like now.
Candy is in the background looking put out.
Mervin: Brumby and Cindy. They locked us in there.
Joyce (looks around): Oh my God, where are they?
Candy (smugly): They'll be long gone by now.
Joyce runs out of the kitchen and Mervin gives Candy an evil look.
The truck has got through the first gate and is approaching the second when the alarm starts to sound.
Cindy: Hell, we're going to be caught.
Brumby: I'm not staying in here.
She puts the blade of the knife close to the driver's private region.
Brumby: Put your foot down or I'll cut it off.
The gate guard puts his hand out to stop the truck.
Brumby: Don't stop.
The truck goes crashing through the gate. They are out! The gate guard gets on the phone and says that the women have escaped in the garbage truck.
Cynthia has called Mervin to her office and is giving him a dressing down for letting the women escape.
Mervin: With all due respect governor. There was really nothing I could do locked in the fridge.
Cynthia: You shouldn't have let yourself get locked in there. Oh just get out, and Mervin.
Mervin: Yes governor.
Cynthia: I expect a vast improvement in your work as a whole. That will be all.
Mervin goes out. Candy is waiting outside with Marty.
Candy: She wasn't too hard on you was she Mervy?
Mervin: Oh shut up, you've done enough damage Evans.
Marty: That's enough Evans. He knocks on the door.
Cynthia (calls): Come in.
Marty: Evans, governor.
Cynthia: OK Mr. Jackson, you may wait outside.
Marty goes out.
Cynthia: Well Evans. You've only been here a few days and already you could be on another charge.
Candy: What charge? I haven't done anything.
Cynthia: Oh I wouldn't call assisting an escape nothing.
Candy: Assisting an escape? I knew absolutely nothing about it Miss Leach. Why I was taken quite by surprise from those nasty women. I'm still shaking after being locked in that fridge. I could have been frozen to death you know.
Cynthia: Alright Evans, you can cut the dramatics. You told Mrs. Pringle they'd be 'long gone by now', so it's obvious you were in on the plan. Now I'm prepared to go lenient on you - if you tell me how they did it.
Candy: I might be persuaded - for a price that is.
Cynthia: Now you listen to me you old slut. The only deal I'm going to make with you is that I'll make your life hell if you don't tell me.
Candy: It's pretty hell anyway so what's the diff? I suppose you'll be in trouble with the department over these escapes.
Cynthia: That's none of your business Evans. Oh for heaven's sake, just tell me what it is that you want.
Candy: I want Joyce Pringle transferred to another prison, and I want to keep my job in the kitchen.
Cynthia: And what's Mrs. Pringle done to upset you then?
Candy: She's standing in the way of me and my Mervin.
Cynthia: You mean, you and Mr. Pringle are......?
Candy: Yes, but now Joyce has forgiven him then I've got no chance.
An evil smile appears on Cynthia's face.
Cynthia: OK I'll make sure she's transferred to another prison. Now tell me how they got away.
Candy: Sure. This is how they did it....
The women are gathered in the corridor by Rodney, and Cynthia is talking to them.
Cynthia: In case any of you get any ideas about escaping, then you may as well know that I intend to come down extremely harshly on Tucker and Simpson when they are caught.
Sheila (mutters to Chrissie): If they're caught.
Cynthia: What was that Evans? Have you got something you'd like to share with us?
Sheila: No miss.
Cynthia: Well since you've obviously got energy to waste you can scrub the shower block before dinner. Now as I was saying, if anybody else gets any ideas then they'd better think again. Right then, back to work.
Cynthia goes off and the women start to talk amongst themselves.
Rodney: Alright you can do it without talking, unless you all want to be on a charge.
Kath: That was almost convincing Rodney.
Rodney: The name's Mr. Adams, Maxwell.
Chrissie: Ooh he's so tough. I do like a tough man.
Roo: Alright you heard him, back to work girls.
Chrissie: Ooh get her. Are you a screw lover or something.
Roo grabs Chrissie by the hair and pushes her against the wall.
Roo: You'd better watch that tongue Latham. I've cut 'em out for less than that.
Chrissie: Alright alright. I didn't mean anything by it.
Roo: Well just you remember who's top dog around here, and you'd all better show me some respect if you know what's good for you. Tucker and Simpson will find out when they get back too
.
Chrissie: Oh you can't blame anyone for wanting to get out of this hole though.
Roo: Nobody escapes without asking me first. Nobody!
Candy is on her way back to the kitchen, escorted by Joyce.
Joyce: You just make sure you keep away from my Mervin. You're in the kitchen to work, nothing else.
Candy: Tut tut. Do you really think he'd rather have you.
Joyce: Yes, I do. I know that he wouldn't be interested in an old trollop like you. So you just keep your hands to yourself.
Candy: You weren't so sure before. What's changed?
Joyce: I've seen exactly what you're like, that's what. And I'm not going to let some old slapper split us up.
Candy: What a shame you won't be around to keep you eye on him then.
Joyce: What did you mean by that remark, Evans?
Candy: Oh nothing. You'll find out.
Sheila is mopping in the shower block when Edwina walks in.
Sheila: Well well, look who it is.
Edwina: If you touch me they'll know who it was. You'll spend the rest of your life in prison Blake.
Sheila: The name's Sheila. I'm not one of your crims now you know, and I don't care if I stay in here forever, it'll be worth it to kill you. And I'm already doing 5 years 'cos of you, you bitch!
Edwina goes to walk out, but Sheila grabs her and pulls her back, then she starts laying into her. Suddenly Rodney appears and breaks them up.
Rodney: Right you two, you're both coming with me to see the governor.
Sheila: One day I'm going to kill you, you bitch! You just wait and see if I don't!
Cynthia has called Joyce to her office.
Cynthia: I've got some good news Mrs. Pringle. I've finally managed to arrange your transfer to Helmslough, you'll be leaving us on Thursday.
Joyce: What?! But I don't want to go now. Me and Mervin are back together.
Cynthia: Well I'm sorry but it's all arranged now, you've got no choice. You should have let me know earlier.
Joyce runs out of the office wailing, and bangs into Rodney on the way out.
Cynthia: Yes Mr. Adams what is it?
Rodney: There's been more trouble I'm afraid, I just caught Blake attacking Steele in the shower block.
Cynthia (impatiently): Okay, bring them in.
Rodney tells them to get inside.
Cynthia: Alright. What have you got to say for yourselves?
Edwina: She attacked me for no reason. I told you I needed protection.
Sheila: You lagging bitch!
Cynthia: That will be enough. Okay Blake, 48 hours in solitary. Take her away Mr. Adams.
Rodney takes Sheila out, who is telling Edwina again that she's going to get her. When they are gone, Cynthia turns to Edwina.
Cynthia: Well Steele. You're not very popular are you?
Edwina: You should know.
Cynthia: Well now that the isolation block is finished, you'll have to go there. I'll get an officer to take you.
Edwina (sarcastically): Lucky me.
Joyce goes to see Mervin in the kitchen and tells him that she's being transferred. Mervin tells her that he'll resign in protest, but Joyce tells him that they can't let Cynthia win.
Roo makes an announcement in the laundry that from now on all the women will have to pay protection money if they want to stay in one piece. Chrissie whispers to Kath that they've got to find a way of getting rid of Roo and Cynthia. Kath agrees with her and tells her to meet her in her cell just before lock-up. Roo asks what they're whispering about but Chrissie tells her it's women's problems. Roo tells her to watch her step.
Meg goes to visit Tania Layton, but she isn't very talkative at all. Meg tells her that it's very important that Cynthia is stopped, and she is the only person who can help. Tania tells her she doesn't know anything. Meg tells her that if she tells the truth then she'll personally see to it that Cynthia will be convicted and won't be able to touch her. Eventually Tania nods her head.
Meg is now at home with Joyce and Mervin, they are drinking tea. Joyce is still fuming about her transfer, but Meg tells her not to worry as she has a feeling that Cynthia will be out of the picture before too long. Joyce tells her she hopes she's right.
Marty calls round to see Spike, and tells her that they can't tell anybody about yesterday. Spike tells him to just forget that it ever happened.
Marty: I'm not sure I can do that.
Spike: You'll have to. She shuts the door on him.
Meg arrives at the prison demanding to see Cynthia. She tells her that she's got evidence that she had something to do with Ann's accident, and Tania Layton is going to give evidence against her. Cynthia tells her it's all lies and nobody will believe her. Meg leaves and Cynthia makes a phonecall.
Cynthia: Hello Sid....
Kath and Amanda are in their cell. Chrissie pokes her head round the door.
Chrissie: I can't be long. I'll be seen. Now what's the plan.
Kath: Hang on. She looks at Amanda as if to say "Leave".
Amanda: Oh come on. I'm on your side. We've got to work together on this.
Chrissie: I hate to say it but she has got a point. We need as many people on our side as we can get.
Kath: Oh all right. But I'm watching you Spencer.
Amanda: You can trust me, I promise.
Kath: We'd better be able to.
Chrissie: Quick, just tell us what we're going to do.
Kath: Well the way I see it Cynthia can't be too popular with the department at the moment, what with these latest escapes....
Joan is packing a bag and grabs some money off the side, then sneaks out the back door, but is caught by Cynthia.
Cynthia: Going somewhere Joan?
Joan: Well you wanted me out of the way didn't you?
Cynthia: Where will you go?
Joan: Wherever the next plane will take me.
Cynthia: You got a passport?
Joan: I went to see an ex-crim I know, he did it for me this afternoon. Well I guess I'll be seeing you then.
Cynthia: Bye Joan.
Cynthia is sat down drinking, when she gets up and makes a phone call.
Cynthia: Hello. Yes I have some information on the whereabouts of Joan Ferguson.
Joan arrives at the airport and checks in. She is approaching her plane when police swarm the place and she is captured. As she is being helped into a police car she snarls: "Bloody Cynthia!"
The women are having breakfast in the dining room, and Kath is going round most of the tables talking to the women. Roo demands to know what is going on but is grabbed by 4 heavies and taken into the kitchen. Mervin is told to get into the dining room, which he does. Roo is tied up and gagged. Rodney demands to know what is going on but he is grabbed and tied up too. Then Kath and the others barricade themselves in. She tells Joyce, who is outside the dining room, that nobody is leaving the dining room until Cynthia hands in her resignation. Joyce suddenly smiles to herself.
Meg arrives at the prison where Tania was being held and is surprised to see Joan being inducted.
Meg: Joan!
Joan: What are you doing here Morris? Come to gloat? Well you can tell your friend Cynthia that Tania Layton will talk now. I'll make sure of that.
Meg: But that's who I'm here to see.
Officer: I'm afraid that won't be possible.
Meg: But I assure you it is very important. It's only for a minute, and it is a legal matter.
Officer: I'm sorry, but it's totally impossible. Tania Layton was found hanging in her cell this morning.
