PREVIOUSLY.....

Cynthia gets up, and then picks a file off the desk. She passes it to Su.

Su: What's this?

Cynthia: Call it a goodbye present, you obviously hate pushers.

Su: Yeah, so.

Chrissie: 'Ere this is Amanda's file.

Cynthia: You might find it interesting reading.

At that, Cynthia walks out of the office and pushes past the women taunting her outside. Inside, Su's face turns from surprise to hatred as she reads Amanda's file!

As Ann leaves reception she walks into an old face - Greg Miller! They apologise to each other, and as they don't know each other Ann leaves.

Greg: Well at least there's still one familiar face here.

Meg looks up and shouts: "Greg!"

Greg: How are you Meg?
They hug.

A girl of about 14 is walking down the road on her way home from school. Suddenly a car screeches to a halt, with a man driving. The passenger door opens and Cynthia is sat there.

Cynthia: Hello Catherine. How's it going?

Catherine: I don't want anything from you, I'm off that stuff now.

Cynthia: That's not very nice is it? I've got a message from your mum.

Catherine: What message? I'm going home now anyway.

Cynthia: Not your foster mum. Your real mother - Susan O'Leary.

Catherine: You know Su? How is she?

Cynthia: Not too good I'm afraid. You've got to come with me now. We'll take you to see her.

Catherine: I don't know. I'll get in trouble if I'm late.

Cynthia jumps out of the car and grabs her.

Cynthia: You haven't got a choice love.

Catherine screams and Cynthia pulls her, kicking and screaming, into the car. Then she says: "Drive on Sid".

Adrian checks that Ollie is asleep and then walks over to the far fence outside, where Vicki, Brumby and Cindy are waiting.

Adrian: Did you bring the fence-cutters? Good.

He starts to cut through the fence to make it look like an outside job. Then the girls get in and he takes them to where the money is. They break into the box with a crowbar and Cindy can't stop touching the money. Adrian grabs it off her.

Adrian: There's no time for that. Ollie could wake up at any time. Quick take it all and get out.

The 3 girls go outside and run towards the fence and are nearly there when Ollie appears and shouts over to them.

Brumby: Quick, let's get out of here.

Adrian makes out to Ollie that he was about to go after them.

Ollie: Call the police, I'll handle this.

He pulls out a gun and tells them to give themselves up. Then he shoots and a scream is heard.

The women are in the recroom watching the TV when a news report comes on: "A woman has been shot dead during a robbery at a security company.......................

Kath Maxwell Kath Maxwell Amanda Spencer Cindy Simpson

Episode 760

".......the woman was one of the escapees from Wentworth Detention Centre...."

*scene changes from the recroom at Wentworth to Stu's flat where he is sat on the sofa with Spike*

".......and has been named as Michelle Tucker."

Spike
(jumps up): Brumby!!!!

Stu: What? You know her? How?

Spike: Oh...well we went to school together.
(sits back down.) I haven't seen her in ages. It was just a shock that was all.

Stu looks suspicious.

Meanwhile in the recroom the women are all talking at once.

Kath: I can't believe she'd be so stupid as to do that robbery. She must have realised she'd have ended up back in here.

Chrissie: Well she won't now will she.

Sheila: I wonder if Cindy was with her. They said two other women were involved.

Chrissie: She must have been. I wonder who the other woman was though.

Su: Well I expect we'll find out. She's sure to end up in here.

Roo: The silly bitch had it coming. She never was known for her brains was she.

Kath: Shut up Morgan.

Roo: You're getting cocky aren't you Maxwell, now you've got O'Leary to hide behind.

Su jumps up and grabs Roo by the throat, nearly strangling her.

Su: Now listen here Morgan. Kath is a good friend of mine, so you're going to apologise to her, aren't you?

Roo: get stuffed.

Su grabs her even tighter by the throat until Roo is almost choking. She pushes her down at Kath's feet.

Su: Now apologise and kiss her foot.

Roo is forced to do this and then Su lets go. Roo goes running out of the recroom and everyone else starts cheering.

Sheila: She'll be mad as hell now.

Chrissie: Let her be, she hasn't got a mate in this place. What can she do?

Kath: Don't underestimate her, I wouldn't put anything past that one.

Su: I'm not scared of her. I've dealt with tougher cockroaches than that!

Chrissie: 'Ere where's Amanda tonight.

Su: Keeping out of my way probably.

Kath: I wish I knew what was going on between you two.

Su: Oh you'll find out, when she does!

In a dis-used warehouse Catherine is tied up to a chair and gagged. Cynthia enters and pulls the gag down.

Catherine: What do you want from me?

Cynthia: Oh but I don't want anything from you. It's your mother that has something I want. If she does as she's told then you'll be fine.

Catherine: And if she doesn't?

Cynthia: Now you don't really want me to answer that do you?
(starts laughing evilly)

Catherine (starts to cry): My mum will kill you if you hurt me.

Cynthia: Your mum will be in no condition to do anything. You see I can do anything I want to.

Cynthia pours some water down Catherine's throat.

Cynthia: Now how about you take some of this to calm your nerves. (She pulls a bag of white powder from her pocket). Catherine: No way. I don't touch that stuff no more.

Cynthia: Oh I think you'd better reconsider.

Cynthia holds Catherine's mouth open and pours the white powder down her throat, while she is struggling and spluttering. Then she washes it down with some water. Cynthia goes to the door.

Cynthia: Have a nice trip. (Starts to laugh again as she leaves.)

We see a close up of Catherine's eyes, and sweat is pouring down her forehead.

Meg is in reception when a man enters carrying a suitcase.

Meg: Can I help you sir?

Man (Sid): Yes I'm here to see Ruth Morgan, I'm her solicitor.

Meg
(in surprise): Her solicitor?

Sid: That's right. It is rather urgent.

Meg: Well I'm sorry but visiting hours are over for the day. If you'd like to come back in the morning.

Sid: Couldn't you make an exception just this once. As I said it is rather urgent.

Meg: Well you'll have to tell me the nature of the visit if I'm to consider it.

Sid: Her mother asked me to come and see her regarding her will. She's very sick and may not last the night.

Meg: Oh very well. Don't make a habit of it though. You'll have to sign the book before I take you through.

Sid: Thank you, you don't know what this will mean to her.

Meg leads him off and a smirk appears on Sid's face as he speaks.

Meg enters the recroom.

Meg: Where's Morgan?

Sheila: She didn't like our company. I think she's gone to her cell to talk to the walls, they've got the same intelligence level.

Kath: Mrs. Morris, we just heard about Brumby - is it true?

Meg: Where did you hear that? Oh on the TV I suppose. Well yes I'm afraid it is true.

Sheila: What about Cindy? Have they caught her?

Meg: Not yet, but they expect to pick her up pretty soon. Escaping may seem like a good idea at the time, but you'll always get caught and end up serving extra time.

Su
(mutters): Not if you do it properly.

Chrissie: What do you want with Roo anyway?

Meg
(as she is leaving recroom): That's none of your business Latham. I'll be back in fifteen minutes for lock-up. Meg leaves.

Chrissie: What was eating her?

Sheila: Yeah she didn't look too happy did she?

Kath: I wonder what Roo's done.

Su: Who cares. We've got bigger fish to fry.

Sheila: What are you going on about?

Su: OK you want to know why I don't like Amanda? Well gather round ladies and I'll tell you. Chrissie you can keep nit as you already know.

Roo is sharpening a knife on her cell floor when she hears footsteps. She hides the knife under her mattress. Meg enters.

Meg: Morgan, you've got a visitor.

Roo: A visitor? Who the hell's coming to visit me?

Meg: Well if you hurry up you'll find out. It will have to be a short visit as it is.

Roo: If it's the cops you can tell them to stick it.

Meg: It's your solicitor. He's got some bad news about your mother I'm afraid. Now are you coming or not.

Roo goes with her.

Roo: My mother ay? I was hoping the bitch had died years ago.

Meg: That sort of attitude doesn't help anyone. She is still your mother after all, whatever you might think of her.

Roo: What the hell would you know!?

They reach the interview room.

Sid: Could I talk to my client in private please?

Meg: Very well, you've got 5 minutes and then I'll be back.
(She leaves the room.)

Roo: Well well well, Sid Bradshaw. You're moving up in the world aren't you? How's my mother?

Sid: This isn't about your mother, I had to say that to get that bitch screw to let me see you.

Roo: I know. My mother died when I was 2. So what do you want?

Sid: Su O'Leary has something that Cynthia wants.

Roo: What?

Sid: A tape.

Roo: Yeah? What's on it?

Sid: That doesn't matter. She'll know which one it is.

Roo: Well she's not likely to give it to me, we're not exactly best buddies you know.

Sid: Oh she'll give it to you, when she plays this one.
(Sid hands her a tape.)

Sid: When she finds out we've got her daughter she'll give you the tape no worries. (Sid smirks.)

Roo: And what's in it for me?

Sid: We'll help you fix O'Leary for good. Plus you can start up the drug trade here again.
(He passes her a bag of white powder which Roo takes.)

(Roo smiles.)

Roo: You've got a deal. She takes the tape.

Sid: I'll be back in a couple of days to collect the tape. That should give you enough time.

Roo: Leave it with me.

Meg re-enters the room.

Sid: So, are you happy with everything I've told you Miss Morgan?

Roo: Yeah ecstatic.

Sid: Well I'll be back in a couple of days to finalise the agreement.

Meg takes Sid out.

Meg (to Roo): You'll have to wait here until I've shown Mr. Bradshaw out. (Locks door.)

Roo (to herself): Oh I've got all the time in the world.
(Starts to chuckle.)

Back to the recroom and the women are dumb-struck after hearing about Amanda.

Kath: Well I knew she was hiding something but I didn't expect this. Cynthia must have had great delight in letting you know.

Su: Yeah she did but that's not the point. The point is how are we going to fix the bitch.

Chrissie: Why don't we just bash her. Let her know what happens to stinking pushers?

Brenda (background prisoner): None of us are perfect. So what, I say.

Su: Don't be stupid Brenda. That bitch thought of nobody but herself, any one of our kids could have taken that stuff and died because of her greed.

Sheila: Anybody who's prepared to poison people just to make a bit of dough deserves all they get in my book. Let's kill the bitch.

Kath: I agree she needs to be taught a lesson but I don't think we should kill her, why not just send her to coventry?

Brenda: God you're weak Maxwell. This isn't a sunday school you know.

Su: A minute ago you wanted to let her off. Make up your mind for God sake.

Brenda: Yeah well I hadn't thought it through then had I.

Sheila: No, you'd need a brain for that.

Brenda: Shut it Blake.

Su: No you shut it Brenda, before I lose my sense of humour. I think coventry's a great idea Kath.

Chrissie: What!? After what that bitch has done. You really think coventry's enough of a punishment?

Su: To start with yes. But don't worry that's just the beginning. I'll come up with something a lot more effective for Miss Amanda Spencer.

It's dark and we see a hand knocking continuously at a door. It is then opened by a familiar face - Roslyn Simpson (Cindy's twin).

Ros: Cindy! What are you doing here? The police have already been round twice, they're keeping a close watch on the place.

Cindy (pushes her way inside): That's a lovely greeting, anyone would think you weren't pleased to see me.

Ros: Yeah well I'm not. I've moved on since I got out and I've got my own life now, so if you don't mind you can leave now please.

Ros holds the door open for Cindy and tries to push her outside but Cindy pulls out a gun.

Cindy: I think you'd better reconsider sis. You owe me remember!?

The women are going back to their cells and Su finds Roo waiting in hers.

Su: What the hell do you want?

Roo: Oh I thought I could do you a favour.

Su: What could a bitch like you possibly do for me?

Roo produces the tape.

Roo: I've got something you might like to listen to.

Su: I doubt it, if it's anything you like.

Roo: Oh you'll want to listen to this. I can assure you. You'd be stupid not to.

Roo tosses the tape on the bed and leaves the cell.

Roo: Pleasant dreams.

Su picks up the tape and puts it in her tape recorder. Meg comes to lock the cell.

Meg: Hurry up and get undressed O'Leary. Lights out in ten minutes.

Su: Yes Mrs. Morris.

Meg goes off and Su presses play. She recognises her daughter's voice, which sounds shaky.

Catherine: Mum, it's me, Catherine.

There is a voice in the background telling her to just read the card.

Su: Cynthia!

Catherine: If you ever want to see me alive again then you'd better give the tape to Roo. You know the tape I'm on about, and there'd better not be any copies because I can be got at any time. Don't get any ideas about telling the police or playing this tape to anyone else because I'll be dead before anyone finds me. You've got exactly 24 hours to let Roo have the tape or I get it. Mum, I'm sorry, I love.....
(The tape stops there. Su slams the tape recorder across the floor shouting "Bitch!")

Kath and Amanda are in bed.

Amanda: What's up, you're very quiet tonight?

Kath remains silent.

Amanda: Well what have I done?

Kath turns over onto her side.

Amanda: For God sake say something. At least tell me what it is I'm supposed to have done.

Silence.

Amanda: Oh I get it. O'Leary's been spreading lies about me. Well if you're stupid enough to believe that bitch instead of your mates you can go to hell.

Chrissie, Sheila and Candy are talking in their cell.

Sheila: I wonder how Kath's getting on not talking to that Spencer bitch.

Chrissie: Yeah. I'm glad I'm not sharing with her. I wonder what Su will do to her.

Sheila: I don't know, but I hope she makes it good. Now Edwina's dead I need a new interest.

Chrissie: Who do you think killed her then?

Sheila: Dunno, it could have been anyone. She didn't have a friend in the place. I wish they'd have let me do the job though.

Candy: Would you two mind keeping it down now. A woman needs her beauty sleep for court you know.

Chrissie: Oh yeah, you're in court tomorrow aren't you, what do you reckon you'll get?

Candy: By the time I've finished with them they'll gladly keep me in here for a few months.

Sheila: Why bother? You can see Mervin on the outside.

Candy: Not with that Joyce cow keeping him on a leash all the time. If I could just get rid of her.

Chrissie: You leave her. She's one of the only decent screws we've got in here, her and Mrs. Morris.

Sheila: Mr. Jackson's alright. I wouldn't mind a bit of that myself.

Chrissie: Nah. He still hates me for killing his dad. I can't say that I blame him mind, I'd probably feel the same. Actually no, if anyone had killed my dad I'd have paid them.

Sheila: He can't have been that bad.

Chrissie: He was a bastard. All men are....well most of them anyway.

Candy: You've obviously never had a real man then.

Chrissie: I had one once. Mick his name was, well it wasn't his real name but he'll always be my Mick.

Sheila: What happened to him.

Chrissie: The bastard cops sent him back to Western Australia to finish his sentence, he'd been on the run all the time. God knows where he is now though.

Candy: My Mervin would never do that to me.

Sheila: God you live in a dream world Candy. He's not your Mervin.

Candy: Not yet maybe. But if Joyce was out of the way then I know he'd be begging for me.

Sheila: Yeah right!

Chrissie: You realise they might not send you back here. You could end up at Helmslough, or Barnhurst.

Candy: What! I didn't know they could do that.

Sheila: They can and they would too if Reno put a word in.

Candy: Well that's just great. I only got myself put in here to be near Mervy.

Sheila: Well I doubt if they'll see it like that. Still you can always appeal to the courts.

Chrissie: Yeah, even if you don't appeal to Mervin.

Sheila and Chrissie burst out laughing and Candy goes into a sulk.

Back at Ros's flat.

Cindy: So why did you do it then? Ros: Do what?

Cindy: Lag on me to the cops.

Ros: I had to do it Cindy. You didn't really expect me to take the blame for bashing poor Lisa did you?

Cindy: It wasn't just that, you told them stuff that I'd done ages ago.

Ros: I needed to get away from you and start a new life. I don't need you any more Cindy. You were always forcing me to do things and getting me into trouble.

Cindy: I thought we were a team. It's always been you and me versus the world.

Ros: Not any more. I've got a new life now, a new job and new friends, and I've made up with mum and dad too.

Cindy: What!? After they chucked us out?

Ros: That was only because I went along with everything you did Cindy. Well I'm my own person now so you might as well leave.

Cindy points the gun towards Ros again.

Cindy: Oh I'm not going anywhere.

It is now the following morning and the women are being let out for their showers. Sheila and Chrissie say good morning to Su, but she barges past them and pulls Roo to one side.

Su: You lousy bitch, where's my daughter?

Roo: How do I know, I'm only the messenger.

Su: Well get this. If that bitch Leach hurts one hair on Catherine's head, then I'm going to kill her and then I'm going to kill you.

Roo: Just let me have the tape and then your daughter will be fine.

Chrissie comes over and pulls Su away from Roo.

Chrissie: 'Ere I just overheard. Has that cow Cynthia kidnapped your daughter then?

Su nods and her eyes fill with tears.

Roo (shouts over): How come you've got a kid anyway O'Leary? I thought you said you were gay.

Su goes to thump her but Chrissie pulls her away.

Su: I swear to God I'm going to have that bitch. Oh God what am I going to do Chrissie?

Chrissie: Well you'll have to let her have the tape won't you. I'd do anything if it meant my Elizabeth was safe.

Su: I can't.

Chrissie: Why not. Have you got rid of it then?

Su shakes her head.

Su: There never was a tape.

Chrissie: What!? But I thought you said....

Su: I know what I said. I had to think of some way to get rid of that Leach bitch without killing her, so I just made up the story about the tape.

Chrissie: Well I've got to hand it to you Su, you certainly got rid of her. Well you'll have to tell her the truth now won't you.

Su: She won't believe that. No, I've got a mate on the outside who might help.

Chrissie: Why don't you just call the police. Make them earn their money for a change. Who knows, Cynthia could end up in here, then you can get your own back.

Su: If only. No, no cops it's too risky.

Meg comes over.

Meg: If you two have quite finished your conversation do you think you could make your ways to the showers please?

Chrissie: Sorry Mrs. Morris.

Roo has cornered Amanda in the showerblock and persuades her to side with her against Su.

Chrissie: Those two seem very close. I wonder what they're talking about.

Su: Who cares, they're welcome to each other.

Sheila: They're not the only ones. What's with you two this morning?

Su (snaps): Oh just mind your own business can't you Blake.

Sheila: Oh I'm very sorry. Jesus.

Su: I'm sorry Sheila, I've just got a lot on my plate at the moment.

Sheila: Yeah. Don't worry about it.

Joyce and Mervin are at home eating breakfast hurriedly.

Joyce: Oh do hurry up Mervin we'll be late.

Mervin: Yes ok I'm coming. It's that Evans woman's trial today isn't it?

Joyce: Yes. I hope to God they don't let her off, she'll be pestering us non-stop.

Mervin: So do I. She nearly split us up last time.

Joyce: Yes well.

Mervin: No matter what happens we're stuck with her, either at work or at home.

Joyce: Not necessarily. There's a good chance they could send her to another prison.

Mervin: You really think so?

Joyce: Yes it's likely. Now come on Mervin we've got to leave and you've still got your slippers on.

Cynthia comes to feed Catherine and asks her if she enjoyed her trip. Catherine spits at her face and Cynthia wipes it off and laughs.

Cynthia: For that, you'll have to pay for the next lot.

Catherine: I don't want any more.

Cynthia: Oh you don't get a choice.

Catherine: Well I haven't got any money.

Cynthia: Who needs money. Sid will let you pay another way.

Sid enters.

Sid: How's our girl then. (He runs his fingers through her hair.)

Cynthia: I was just explaining to her some of the ways she can pay for her next fix, since she doesn't have any money.

Sid: Oh a pretty little thing like you doesn't have to worry about money.
(He starts to undo his belt.)

Cynthia: I'll leave you to it then.
(She goes out and Catherine is looking extremely frightened.)

Candy is being escorted out by Rodney. She is signing the book.

Candy: I do hope this isn't the last time I'll be signing the book. Wentworth's not such a bad place really.

Rodney: Oh it won't be Evans. I can guarantee it.

Meg enters reception dressed in civvies. Greg Miller is behind her.

Rodney: Meg! Weren't you on night shift?

Meg: Yes I'm strictly here on business. Are you on court duty?

Rodney: Yes unfortunately. Come on Evans.

Meg: Well rather you than me. See you later.

Candy: Bye Meg. I expect I'll be seeing you.

Rodney and Candy leave.

Meg: She's got the cheek of the devil that one.

Greg: She certainly dresses colourfully.

Meg (to Wendy): Is Mrs. Reynolds in her office Wendy?

Wendy: Yes. I'll let her know you're here if you like. Well well, if it isn't Greg Miller.

Greg: Hello. Wendy isn't it?

Wendy: That's right, how have you been?

Greg: Good thanks. I see you've survived all the riots and fires.

Wendy: Not quite. Actually I cheated, I left and came back again.

Meg: Shall we go Greg?

Greg: Yes. I'll catch up with you over a drink some time, Wendy.

Wendy: I'll look forward to it.

Ann is sat in her office reading a file when there is a knock at the door.

Ann: Come in.

Meg enters followed by Greg.

Ann: Hello Meg. (Looks at Greg),You must be Greg. How do you do.

They shake hands.

Greg: That's right. How are you Mrs. Reynolds.

Ann (jokes): Apart from tired and overworked you mean?

Greg: Join the club. Actually I remember you from yesterday, sorry if I nearly sent you flying.

Ann: My fault I think, I was in too much of a rush to get out of the place.

Greg: I remember that feeling only too well.

Ann: Now what was it you wanted to see me about?

Meg: Yes, I didn't want to say too much on the phone but, well I'll leave it to Greg to explain.

Greg: Well I have a proposition for you actually.

Ann: Sounds intriguing.

Greg: Well as you may have heard, my wife Karen was an inmate in this prison several years ago, until she was acquitted.

Ann: Yes, I've been doing my homework since Meg phoned me earlier. She used to run a halfway house didn't she?

Greg: That's right. Actually this is along those lines. Meg told me you didn't have a social worker at the moment, and as we've recently moved back into the area and I've just set up my new practice Karen has decided she needs a new interest.

Ann looks thoughtul.

Greg: She desperately wants to get back into helping people, preferably prisoners as she feels she can relate to what they're going through, and well, how would you feel about her coming here to help the women in a kind of social worker role? Not as an actual social worker, more of a friendly ear that the women can talk their problems over with and she can help them. What do you think?

Ann: She basically would be a social worker then?

Greg: Well I didn't want to give it that title as I realise she isn't qualified and the department wouldn't even think about it. I realise it's a bit out of the ordinary, having an ex-prisoner working on the other side of the bars.

Ann: I like the idea.

Greg: You do? Do you think the department will agree?

Ann: The department won't get a say in the matter. I only agreed to return to Wentworth on the condition that I could make any decisions regarding the running of the prison. If they don't like it they can look for a new governor.

Meg looks at Greg, and he looks back.

Greg: That's marvellous, thanks ever so much Mrs. Reynolds. I'd better go and tell Karen the good news. How about we all have lunch together to finalise the details?

Ann: Yes I'd love to.

Meg: Me too.

Greg: Great, well I must go. Karen will be over the moon. Thanks once again.

Ann: You wouldn't consider returning as doctor I suppose?

Greg: Sorry, but I'm flat out with my own surgery at the moment. Have you not got a doctor here any more?

Ann: We have but he only comes once a week at the moment, it's not nearly enough.

Greg: Well I'll ask around and see what I can come up with.

Ann: Thanks Greg.

Greg: It's the least I can do. I'll see you for lunch.

Ann and Meg are sat in the restaurant. Greg walks in with Karen, and they all say their hello's. They discuss married life (or lack of it) and talk about old times a bit, over lunch. Ann tells Karen she's having a meeting of staff later that day and she can attend if she likes, then she can speak to the women as well.

The next scene goes straight to the meeting, which is attended by Ann, Joyce, Marty, Rodney, Karen and 3 background officers whose input to the meeting is nil! Meg is at home getting some well overdue sleep! Ann introduces Karen to the others, and Rodney seems overly impressed by her. Marty notices this and whispers to Rodney that he stands no chance. Rodney gives him an evil look.

Ann: OK we have quite a bit to get through today so I'll begin if there's no objections. Firstly, I'm sure you've already heard that Candice Evans was sentenced to six months at Helmslough, so she'll no longer be our problem.

Joyce: I can't say that I'm sorry about losing that one.

Ann: Well there is a downside I'm afraid. In return they're sending us one of their biggest trouble-makers.

Marty: Great, that's all we need.

Ann: Quite. Her name is Hilda Chubb, but is better known by the inmates and officers of Helmslough alike as 'Grandma'.

Rodney: Oh no, not another old eccentric!

Joyce: How old is she Mrs. Reynolds?

Ann: She'll be 70 next week.

Joyce: Well I'm sure she can't be too much trouble, no worse than Evans anyway.

Ann: Don't be fooled by her age, she's not your average sweet old lady by all accounts. In fact she's being transferred here as a last resort. It's next stop Ingleside.

Marty: What's she in for?

Ann: She stabbed her husband to death with a pitch-fork 3 years ago because he moaned about her cooking. Since then she's attacked several inmates and officers, and recently blinded an inmate in one eye by stabbing her with a pencil.

Rodney: She sounds totally mad, why do we end up with them all?

Ann: We do seem to I agree. Anyway she arrives later today so we need to keep a very close watch on her.

Marty: Can't you just put her in isolation?

Ann: I only want to use isolation as a last resort. I'm hoping O'Leary might be able to sort her out.

Joyce: Weren't they at Helmslough together?

Ann: Yes, but they were in different blocks apparantly so I don't think they knew each other that well.

They change the subject to Chrissie, and Ann explains that her parole has been set for next week. Marty objects that she hasn't served nearly enough time for murder. Ann explains that she was only charged with manslaughter and he shouldn't let his personal feelings interfere. Marty isn't happy but says sarcastically that his mum will probably put in a good word for her. Karen interrupts and says she knew Chrissie when she stabbed Bill, and she'll have a word with her if that's ok. Ann agrees. The main other subject of the meeting is that the women seem to have distanced themselves from Morgan and Spencer. Ann says to keep a close eye on them both then she closes the meeting.

The women are working in the laundry. Su is on the press looking very thoughtful. Roo comes up to her and tells her that she hasn't got long to get the tape to her. Su starts to threaten her but Roo's back-up comes in the form of Amanda, Brenda and Ronnie. Su backs down. Ann and Rodney enter with Karen.

Chrissie: Karen!

Karen: Hello Chrissie. Lorna.

Ann: A few of you may know Karen, but for those of you who don't - this is Karen Miller, she'll be your new social worker, so if anybody has a problem that they can't discuss with me or an officer then Karen's door is always open. Karen?

Karen: Thank you Mrs. Reynolds. Well it's like the governor said really, I'll be starting tomorrow so anybody is free to come and talk to me if they feel they need a chat.

A few of the women start getting noisy.

Rodney (shouts): OK that will do. You'll show Mrs. Miller some respect.

Ann: Thank you Mr. Adams. OK ladies back to work. Chrissie could you come with us please.

Su: Er, Mrs. Reynolds.

Ann: Yes O'Leary.

Su: I'd like to make a phone-call please.

Ann: Very well. Could you sort that out please Mr. Adams.

Rodney: OK, hurry up then O'Leary.

Su goes with Rodney. Chrissie goes with Karen and Ann.

Karen and Chrissie are left in the staffroom for a few minutes.

Chrissie: I like your office.

Karen (laughs): This is just while they're sorting the social worker's office out. I don't start officially until tomorrow.

Chrissie: How have you been? I thought you'd have had the sense to get miles away from this dump.

Karen: I did, but something made me come back. How about you, I heard you got out once.

Chrissie: You know me, I never could keep out of trouble. At least my sentence will be up in a few months and then they can't find any excuse to keep me in here.

Karen: Well that's why I wanted to see you. You could be out of here next week if you play your cards right.

Chrissie: You mean...?

Karen: Yes. Your parole hearing is set for next week.

Chrissie: I don't believe it! I'm going to be back with my Elizabeth again. I'll need to get in touch with Derek, tell him I'll need a place to stay just until me and Elizabeth can find somewhere of our own.

Karen: Do you think he'll be alright with that?

Chrissie: Of course he will, she's my daughter isn't she? Brenda had better get used to the idea too.

Su makes her phone-call and tells her friend to get in and see her tomorrow morning at the latest. When Su comes off the phone her jaw drops when she sees who is brought in.

Su: Oh my God, Grandma!

Grandma: God, they didn't tell me you were going to be in 'ere.

Su: Well I'm top dog and I don't want any trouble from you, got it?

Grandma: Rack off.

Rodney: Alright that's enough, come on O'Leary back to the laundry.

Grandma (shouts after them): Stupid young twit!

Joyce: OK on the white line. (She touches Grandma on the shoulder.) Grandma: Get your bloody hands off me you stupid screw. You'd better learn to respect your elders.

Joyce looks at Wendy in amazement. Wendy tries hard not to burst out laughing.

Stu opens his flat door and Marty is stood there.

Stu: Come in. Thanks for coming.

Marty: It sounded inportant.

Stu: It is. (shouts) Maggie, can you come in here please.

Spike enters and is shocked to see Marty.

Marty: What's going on?

Stu: Right. I want the truth about how you two know each other, and it had better be the whole truth!

Marty and Spike look at each other awkwardly.

Cindy has been asleep on the sofa, and she wakes up to see Ros hanging the phone up. Cindy jumps up and points the gun at Ros.

Cindy: Oh my God, you've called the cops!

Ros: Yes I have. I'm sorry Cindy but you've brought me nothing but trouble since we were kids, and I don't want it anymore. I don't want you anymore.

Cindy: You lousy bitch.

Cindy goes to open the back door but Ros tells her it's no good as they'll be here in a minute. Cindy thinks for a moment and then suddenly scratches herself on the face.

Cindy: I'm not going back inside.

Ros: What are you doing? Cindy, stop it!

Suddenly they hear police sirens and there is a knock at the door, and a voice shouting: "Police, open up".

Cindy pushes past Ros and rushes to the door, pretending to look hurt. Then she throws the gun to Ros as she opens the door.

Cindy: Oh thank God you came.

Ros drops the gun. 2 policeman go over to her and grab her.

Policeman 1 (to Cindy): Are you alright?

Cindy: Yes I'll be fine if you just take her away.

Policeman 2: Don't worry she won't be harrassing you for a very long time.

Ros: Wait, you've got the wrong one. I'm not Cindy.

Cindy: Oh don't use that one again Cindy, they've got you. Just accept it.

Policeman 2: You'd better do as your sister says. You're in enough trouble.

They cart Ros off, who is still trying to protest.

When they have gone, Cindy grabs as much money as she can and runs out the back door...........................................
