PREVIOUSLY.....
Su presses play. She recognises her daughter's voice, which sounds shaky.
Catherine: Mum, it's me, Catherine.
There is a voice in the background telling her to just read the card.
Su: Cynthia!
Catherine: If you ever want to see me alive again then you'd better give the tape to Roo. You know the tape I'm on about, and there'd better not be any copies because I can be got at any time. Don't get any ideas about telling the police or playing this tape to anyone else because I'll be dead before anyone finds me. You've got exactly 24 hours to let Roo have the tape or I get it. Mum, I'm sorry, I love.....
The tape stops there. Su slams the tape recorder across the floor shouting "Bitch!"
Su goes to thump Roo but Chrissie pulls her away.
Su: I swear to God I'm going to have that bitch. Oh God what am I going to do Chrissie?
Chrissie: Well you'll have to let her have the tape won't you. I'd do anything if it meant my Elizabeth was safe.
Su: I can't.
Chrissie: Why not. Have you got rid of it then?
Su shakes her head.
Su: There never was a tape.
Chrissie: What!? But I thought you said....
Su: I know what I said. I had to think of some way to get rid of that Leach bitch without killing her, so I just made up the story about the tape.
Chrissie: Well I've got to hand it to you Su, you certainly got rid of her. Well you'll have to tell her the truth now won't you.
Su: She won't believe that. No, I've got a mate on the outside who might help.
Chrissie: Why don't you just call the police. Make them earn their money for a change. Who knows, Cynthia could end up in here, then you can get your own back.
Su: If only. No, no cops it's too risky.
Karen and Chrissie are left in the staffroom for a few minutes.
Chrissie: I like your office.
Karen (laughs): This is just while they're sorting the social worker's office out. I don't start officially until tomorrow.
Chrissie: How have you been? I thought you'd have had the sense to get miles away from this dump.
Karen: I did, but something made me come back. How about you, I heard you got out once.
Chrissie: You know me, I never could keep out of trouble. At least my sentence will be up in a few months and then they can't find any excuse to keep me in here.
Karen: Well that's why I wanted to see you. You could be out of here next week if you play your cards right.
Chrissie: You mean...?
Karen: Yes. Your parole hearing is set for next week.
Chrissie: I don't believe it! I'm going to be back with my Elizabeth again. I'll need to get in touch with Derek, tell him I'll need a place to stay just until me and Elizabeth can find somewhere of our own.
Karen: Do you think he'll be alright with that?
Chrissie: Of course he will, she's my daughter isn't she? Brenda had better get used to the idea too.
Su makes her phone-call and tells her friend to get in and see her tomorrow morning at the latest. When Su comes off the phone her jaw drops when she sees who is brought in.
Su: Oh my God, Grandma!
Grandma: God, they didn't tell me you were going to be in 'ere.
Su: Well I'm top dog and I don't want any trouble from you, got it?
Grandma: Rack off.
Rodney: Alright that's enough, come on O'Leary back to the laundry.
Grandma (shouts after them): Stupid young twit!
Joyce: OK on the white line. She touches Grandma on the shoulder.
Grandma: Get your bloody hands off me you stupid screw. You'd better learn to respect your elders.
Joyce looks at Wendy in amazement. Wendy tries hard not to burst out laughing.
Stu opens his flat door and Marty is stood there.
Stu: Come in. Thanks for coming.
Marty: It sounded inportant.
Stu: It is. (shouts) Maggie, can you come in here please.
Spike enters and is shocked to see Marty.
Marty: What's going on?
Stu: Right. I want the truth about how you two know each other, and it had better be the whole truth!
Marty and Spike look at each other awkwardly.
Cindy has been asleep on the sofa, and she wakes up to see Ros hanging the phone up. Cindy jumps up and points the gun at Ros.
Cindy: Oh my God, you've called the cops!
Ros: Yes I have. I'm sorry Cindy but you've brought me nothing but trouble since we were kids, and I don't want it anymore. I don't want you anymore.
Cindy: You lousy bitch.
Cindy goes to open the back door but Ros tells her it's no good as they'll be here in a minute. Cindy thinks for a moment and then suddenly scratches herself on the face.
Cindy: I'm not going back inside.
Ros: What are you doing? Cindy, stop it!
Suddenly they hear police sirens and there is a knock at the door, and a voice shouting: "Police, open up". Cindy pushes past Ros and rushes to the door, pretending to look hurt. Then she throws the gun to Ros as she opens the door.
Cindy: Oh thank God you came.
Ros drops the gun. 2 policeman go over to her and grab her.
Policeman 1 (to Cindy): Are you alright?
Cindy: Yes I'll be fine if you just take her away.
Policeman 2: Don't worry she won't be harrassing you for a very long time.
Ros: Wait, you've got the wrong one. I'm not Cindy.
Cindy: Oh don't use that one again Cindy, they've got you. Just accept it.
Policeman 2: You'd better do as your sister says. You're in enough trouble.
They cart Ros off, who is still trying to protest.
When they have gone, Cindy grabs as much money as she can and runs out the back door...........................................

Episode 761
Ann is speaking to Grandma in her office. Joyce is present.
Ann (firmly): You may have got away with a lot at Helmslough, but I give you fair warning, this is not Helmslough and any abuse of the rules will not be tolerated here. You may have used your age in the past to get away with things but I assure you that will not work here...
Grandma (to Joyce): She goes on a bit, don't she?
Joyce: That's quite enough of that Chubb.
Ann: That's okay Mrs. Pringle. Right, I think I've said all I need to. Can you take Chubb to her cell please Mrs. Pringle? She's to go in with O'Leary.
Grandma: That young upstart! I'm not sharing with her. I 'ad me own cell at Helmslough.
Ann: As I said before this is not Helmslough, so you'd better learn to toe the line fast unless you want real trouble. That will be all, thank you Mrs. Pringle.
Joyce: Very well. Come on then Chubb, you heard Mrs. Reynolds.
As they are leaving Grandma turns round to the governor:
Grandma: It's been nice talking to you Miss Reynolds. I expect we'll be seeing a lot more of each other.
With that she leaves and Joyce gives Ann a worrying look on the way out. Ann breaths a deep sigh and shakes her head.
Marty and Spike are stood awkwardly in front of Stu.
Stu: Well? I'm waiting.
Marty: I've already told you, we knew each other at school.
Stu: I'm not stupid Marty, there's more to it than that. You 2 were lovers weren't you?
Stu looks at Spike as she stares to the floor.
Marty: Don't be silly Stu. Come on mate.
Spike: Oh stop it Marty. We might as well just tell him the truth.
Stu: I bloody knew it!
Spike: It's not what you think. It was only the one time. It meant nothing.
Marty: Margaret!
Spike: Well it didn't Marty. It's Stu I love.
Stu: You heard her Marty. I think you should go.
Marty: I love you Margaret.
Spike: Well I don't love you. I don't want anything more to do with you, just stay out of my life.
Marty: You ungrateful bitch. You'd still be inside if it wasn't for me.
Spike looks down again. Stu glares at her.
Stu: You were in prison? Wentworth?
Spike (nods): I was innocent though. We hadn't seen each other until Marty moved in here.
Stu (looks at Marty): You abused your position. Does the governor know you go sleeping with the inmates? Perhaps I should have a word with her.
Marty: That's not true. We slept together after she was released.
Stu: But...that means you slept together while you were seeing me. Looks at Spike.
Spike (protesting): It was only the once. It meant nothing.
Stu slaps her round the face and tells her to get out, then he turns on Marty and chucks him out too.
Outside, Marty tries to talk to Spike but she tells him she never wants to see him again and wishes she's never met him again. She runs off and Marty is left on his own again. He heads for the nearest pub.
Joyce takes Grandma to her cell and tells her to make her bed.
Grandma: Do it yourself. I shouldn't be making beds at my age.
She sits down and lights herself a cigarette.
Joyce: Put that out at once and make your bed.
Grandma: Go screw yourself screw.
Joyce dithers for a minute and then goes running out of the cell.
Ann is on the phone in her office, she is obviously talking to the police about Cindy being recaptured. There is a knock at the door and Joyce enters, flustered.
Ann: Yes thank you goodbye. She puts the phone down.
Joyce: That Chubb woman is making trouble already. She's refusing to make her bed, and when I told her to do it she yelled insults at me.
Ann: Did she now. Well she'll have to wait I'm afraid. That was the police on the phone, Cindy Simpson has been recaptured and she's on her way back here. Apparantly she's been giving the police a hard time. Could you process her in please.
Joyce: Certainly Mrs. Reynolds.
In the laundry Chrissie is telling all the others how she is getting out next week.
Roo: That's if you stay out of trouble Latham. I'd hate to see you not get your parole - you might never see your daughter again. Then again, I doubt she'd recognise you now anyway.
Chrissie: You bitch! She goes to fly at Roo but Su pulls her back.
Su: Just leave it Chrissie. That's what she wants. The best thing you can do to get back at her is to keep your head down and get out of this dump.
Roo: What's up Latham. Your mate finally gone soft has she?
Su: Don't you believe it Morgan. You'll get yours, that much I can promise you.
Roo: Well time's running out O'Leary, and you haven't got long left.
Sheila comes over.
Sheila: What's going on Su? You're not going to let her talk to you like that are you?
Su (snaps): Oh just leave it can't you Sheila.
Sheila: Fine! But just remember, when you're looking for back up it might not come.
Su: Oh just shut up the lot of you.
She goes storming out of the laundry.
Roo: Looks like your leader's running out on you. Starts laughing.
Su marches into her cell and sees Grandma smoking on the bed.
Su (shouts): What the hell are you doing in here you old bat? This is my cell.
Grandma: 'Aven't you 'eard? I've gotta share with you.
Su: Over my dead body.
Grandma: I'm sure it can be arranged, but if you've got any complaints you'd better tell room service.
Su: Well just get out. I've got some thinking to do.
Grandma: Oh God, I'd better go then before your head catches fire.
Sheila is moaning to the other women in the laundry about Su, and says she's not doing her job properly.
Chrissie: Oh come on Sheila let up on her, she's got problems hasn't she.
Roo: Yeah, and they're gonna get a hell of a lot worse if she doesn't do as she's told.
Chrissie: Oh leave her alone can't you Roo.
Grandma stands at the door, still holding her fag.
Sheila (notices her): Hello love, are you new.
Roo: Bloody hell, they're sending us geriatrics now.
Chrissie: Shut up Roo. Goes over to Grandma and holds her hand out. Hi I'm Chrissie.
Grandma: Bully for you, and I can look after meself alright.
Chrissie: Well if that's how you feel you can shove it. I was only trying to be nice.
Roo: Stupid old bag.
Grandma: We'll see who's stupid around here.
Ros arrives at reception, protesting that she isn't Cindy. Joyce processes her in and tells her to keep quiet and just answer the questions.
Ros: But I've answered your question. I'm not Cindy Simpson - I'm Ros Simpson.
Joyce: Oh dear, you're not doing yourself any favours by playing these stupid games.
Ros: I'm not playing any games. I want to see the governor.
Joyce: Well I can see we're going to get nowhere here, so you might as well see Mrs. Reynolds... Well come along then.
Ann speaks to Ros in her office and tells her she's not going to fall for her lies again, and she's not going to tolerate any more trouble from her. She tells Joyce to put her into solitary for 24 hours until she agrees to co-operate. Ros is taken away, still protesting. Joyce puts her head back through the door and tells Ann it's definitely one of those days!
Stu is sat on his sofa with empty beer cans all around him. He gets up and starts smashing the flat to pieces.
Kath, with Meg escorting her, is delivering the meal trays to solitary. They enter Ros's cell, and she tells them to take the tray away. Kath tells her that attitude will get her nowhere. Ros tells Meg she's going on a hunger-strike until they believe that she's not Cindy. They leave the cell, on the way back Kath asks Meg:
Kath: You don't think she could be telling the truth do you?
Meg: I hardly think the police would make a mistake like that.
Kath: Well it wouldn't be the first time the police have screwed up.
Meg: Oh come on. You know what Simpson's like, she just wants to get out again.
Kath: You're probably right.
Meg unlocks the gate and Kath walks back to the kitchen. Meg looks thoughtful.
Meg goes to see Ann and tells her that she thinks Simpson may be telling the truth. Ann is doubtful but agrees to contact the police to get them to organise a fingerprint test. Karen knocks on the door. She enters and tells them that she and Greg are having a house-warming party the next evening, and they are both invited. They both say they'll be there. They then start talking about Chrissie, and Karen mentions she has to go and see Derek when she gets a moment. Meg offers to go on her way home, and Karen says if she doesn't mind. Karen leaves and Ann jokes to Meg that she doesn't need to do the social work any more. Meg says shortly that if she wants to do it her own time then it's up to her. Ann says "Of course".
Su is still in her cell. Roo, Brenda and Jacko enter and tell her that she's been missed in the laundry.
Su: Rack off, and take your pet apes with you.
Roo pulls out her knife and tells Su her time is up. Su puts up a good fight but is stabbed and falls to the floor in pain. They leave as Chrissie enters. Chrissie helps Su to the infirmary. Roo comes back into the cell and starts going through Su's stuff.
Karen goes into her new office and starts to read the files. She looks round and gets a sudden flashback of when she was inducted with Lynn. The she sees herself teaching Frankie to read. She is awoken by a knock on the door. Rodney enters.
Rodney: Hi, how are you settling in?
Karen: Oh, good thanks.
Rodney starts to look around.
Karen: Was there something you wanted?
Rodney: No, well yes. Actually I was wondering if you'd like to come for a drink with me after work.
Karen: Oh sorry, I'm going out with my husband tonight.
Rodney: Your husband?! Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise.
Karen (laughs): That's alright, I'm flattered. We're actually having a house-warming party tomorrow evening. You'd be welcome to come.
Rodney: Sorry I can't make tomorrow evening. I'm working.
Karen: That's a shame.
Rodney leaves the office and Karen starts to chuckle to herself.
Meg arrives home and finds Marty asleep on the couch. She tries to wake him and realises he's drunk.
Meg (harshly): Come on get up.
Marty: Leave me alone.
Meg: Whatever made you get into this state?
Marty: Oh stop preaching mum. I'm a grown man for God sake.
Meg: Fine, then you won't mind getting your own dinner tonight. I've got to go out. Chrissie Latham's parole is coming up and she's got nowhere to stay, I'm going to see her brother.
Marty: You're helping that murdering bitch!? She deserves to rot inside for what she did to dad.
Meg: Right that's it, I've had enough. I'm sick of all this self pity. You're not the only one to have lost someone you know.
Marty: You don't know the half of it.
Meg: Yes you've had it so tough haven't you. Well grow up, we've all had it tough but we don't go around moping about and getting drunk.
Marty: God I'm sick of all these lectures. Just go and help your crim-mate if that's what you want to do.
Meg storms out and slams the door behind her.
In the infirmary, the sister is examining Su's injuries. Joyce is there with Chrissie. The sister presses too hard on Su's side.
Su: Ow, watch it can't you.
Sister: Sorry. Does it hurt there?
Su: Yes it bloody does.
Joyce: That'll be enough of that O'Leary. Will she have to stay in the hospital overnight, sister?
Sister: Yes. For a couple of days at least.
Su: No. I can't.
Joyce: Right I'll let Mrs. Reynolds know. Come on Latham.
Su: I can't stay. Please Mrs. Pringle. At least let Chrissie stay with me for a bit. She starts to get agitated.
Joyce: Oh very well. I'll come back for you in five minutes Latham.
The sister and Joyce talk at the door for a minute.
Su (whispers): Chrissie, my mate's coming to see me today. You need to ring him on this number.
Chrissie: Well what shall I say.
Su: Just him about Cynthia kidnapping my daughter. He'll know what to do.
The sister comes back over and tells Chrissie she'll have to go in a few minutes.
Joyce is in Ann's office explaining the incident. Ann is furious and tells Joyce she'll speak to Su but she doesn't expect to get anywhere.
Chrissie is in reception making her call. While Joyce is occupied with Wendy she blurts out the whole story in a quiet voice, Joyce comes over and Chrissie starts pretending to laugh at a joke. Then she asks to be taken back and has a look of worry on her face.
Meg goes to visit Derek about Chrissie's parole. He eventually answers, looking like he hasn't slept or washed for a week! He tells Meg that Brenda walked out on him when they heard that Chrissie might be getting out, and she's taken Elizabeth. Meg looks shell-shocked.
Grandma is in her cell complaining to Rodney that someone has been through her things. He tells her to shut up and get into bed. Then he shuts and locks the door.
Grandma (to herself): Cheeky little bugger!
In Kath and Amanda's cell, Amanda tells Kath that Roo is taking over as top dog again now that Su is out of action, so she'd better get with her if she doesn't want to get hurt. Kath tells her that Su will be back in no time and she'd better be worried. Amanda laughs and says she wouldn't bank on it.
Next morning in the laundry, Roo takes over the press and announces to everyone that she's top dog now and they'd all better pay their protection money to Brenda. Sheila refuses and is grabbed by Ronnie and another heavy. Roo tells everyone to pay attention to what happens to people who don't pay their protection money. Then Roo grabs Sheila's hand and burns it in the press. Sheila screams as everyone else looks on in horror.
Chrissie is with Karen. She decides to confide in her about Su's daughter, and tells her the full story. Karen advises her to call the police but Chrissie says Su would never forgive her. Meg enters at this point and Chrissie changes the subject abrubtly. Meg tells Chrissie about Brenda. Chrissie is fuming and demands the police be called. Meg tells her they're hoping Brenda will return when she sees sense.
Chrissie: Well she'd better. Cause I swear, I'll kill her if she does anything to hurt Elizabeth.
Sid visits Roo and is furious that she doesn't have the tape. Then he says that he's sure Su will listen if he sends her a couple of Catherine's fingers.
Sheila is in the hospital bed next to Su, and she tells her that Roo has taken over. Su vows she's going to kill the bitch once she's fixed Cynthia. Then she tells Sheila everything. Sheila tells her she should have said something before when she was giving her a hard time. Then they hug.
Ann is in her office complaining to Meg about all the violence recently, and she thinks the root of it all is Morgan. Meg agrees, then she asks if she's done anything about Simpson. Ann says she's waiting for the police to get back to her on the fingerprints. Ann then rings them and then gets off the phone and tells Meg that they've got the wrong girl!
Meg collects Ros from solitary and takes her to Ann. Ann apologises to her for the mix-up and tells her she is free to go. Ros is ecstatic and tells them she hopes they catch her evil sister.
While they're setting up ready for the house-warming, Karen mentions to Greg about Su's daughter and asks him what he thinks she should do. He tells her he can't believe how foolish she's been. Then he picks up the phone and calls the police, despite protests from Karen.
Cindy arrives at the airport and shows her passport. She smiles as she gets through.
Sid and Cynthia are telling Catherine that her mum is foolish and they are going to have to show her they mean business. Sid produces a chopping knife. Cynthia laughs an evil laugh and Catherine screams. Just then a man bursts in and hits Cynthia over the head with an iron bar - she collapses to the floor, knocked out. Sid grabs his gun and shoots the man. Just then the sound of police cars is heard and Sid starts to untie Catherine. She hits him and runs out the back. He hasn't time to go after her so he runs over to his car, shooting at the police car behind him. Thay shoot back as he drives off. The police follow him down the street, but he manages to lose them. He looks back and chuckles. As he looks back out of the front windscreen he nearly hits a woman crossing the road, she stops and looks at him - it is Meg! He swerves and crashes into a wall. Sid gets out and pulls the gun on Meg, they then recognise each other and Sid asks her where she's going with the bottle. She points to the house and he orders her into it as the police car pulls round the corner and tells him to give himself up. He fires again as he follows Meg to the house.
The house-warming is in full swing. Greg, Karen, Ann, Joyce, Mervin, Pat, Wendy and a doctor friend of Greg's are already in the house. They are all laughing and talking when the door opens and Meg enters.
Greg: Ah Meg, I never thought you'd get....
He stops when he sees the man behind Meg pointing a gun at her...........................
