PREVIOUSLY.....
Next morning in the laundry, Roo takes over the press and announces to everyone that she's top dog now and they'd all better pay their protection money to Brenda. Sheila refuses and is grabbed by Ronnie and another heavy. Roo tells everyone to pay attention to what happens to people who don't pay their protection money. Then Roo grabs Sheila's hand and burns it in the press. Sheila screams as everyone else looks on in horror.
While they're setting up ready for the house-warming, Karen mentions to Greg about Su's daughter and asks him what he thinks she should do. He tells her he can't believe how foolish she's been. Then he picks up the phone and calls the police, despite protests from Karen.
Sid and Cynthia are telling Catherine that her mum is foolish and they are going to have to show her they mean business. Sid produces a chopping knife. Cynthia laughs an evil laugh and Catherine screams. Just then a man bursts in and hits Cynthia over the head with an iron bar - she collapses to the floor, knocked out. Sid grabs his gun and shoots the man. Just then the sound of police cars is heard and Sid starts to untie Catherine. She hits him and runs out the back. He hasn't time to go after her so he runs over to his car, shooting at the police car behind him. Thay shoot back as he drives off. The police follow him down the street, but he manages to lose them. He looks back and chuckles. As he looks back out of the front windscreen he nearly hits a woman crossing the road, she stops and looks at him - it is Meg! He swerves and crashes into a wall. Sid gets out and pulls the gun on Meg, they then recognise each other and Sid asks her where she's going with the bottle. She points to the house and he orders her into it as the police car pulls round the corner and tells him to give himself up. He fires again as he follows Meg to the house.
The house-warming is in full swing. Greg, Karen, Ann, Joyce, Mervin, Pat, Wendy and a doctor friend of Greg's are already in the house. They are all laughing and talking when the door opens and Meg enters.
Greg: Ah Meg, I never thought you'd get....
He stops when he sees the man behind Meg pointing a gun at her...........................

EPISODE 762
Sid: Alright, everyone over there. He points towards the corner of the room where the sofa is placed.
Ann: You do realise this will get you absolutely nowhere.
Sid: Shut it lady. He pushes Meg to the sofa and she falls onto it, on top of Tristian (Greg's doctor friend) who doesn't seem to mind.
Sid: Right, now if anyone moves they're dead, okay? This thing is loaded so don't go thinking it ain't.
A policeman is heard outside, talking through a megaphone.
Policeman: Come out with your hands up.
Sid fires a shot through the window. Then he hears the police moving away.
Sid (shouting out of window): I'll kill the lot of you if you come anywhere near. He closes the window.
Ann (whispers to Meg): Who is he?
Meg: He's been at the prison twice. He claimed he was Morgan's solicitor, but that was obviously a pack of lies.
Ann: Morgan? But what can she have to gain from this?
Sid: Shut it lady. I didn't give you permission to talk.
Ann: How do you know Ruth Morgan?
Sid: I said shut it. He goes over to Ann and pushes the gun to her throat. I know you're the governor of that prison.
Meg: How did you know? You've never met Mrs. Reynolds before.
Sid (chuckles): Oh yes I have. I had a slight run in with her should I say.
Ann looks at Meg.
Ann: You mean you were driving the van that pushed me off the road? But why? She stops as she realises. Cynthia Leach!
Sid: She was the best officer you ever had and you kicked her out. I suppose you're all screws. Yeah, I think I've just hit the jackpot ending up in a house with you lot of scum.
Detective Inspector Grace arrives and takes charge. He tells the policeman doing all the talking to back away and let him try and talk to the man. He takes the megaphone.
Grace: If you come out now then we will go easy on you.
Back inside the house.
Sid: You don't expect me to believe that do you, you pig. I want it in writing that there will be no charges brought against me, and I want a car to get me out of here. Otherwise the governor of Wentworth gets it.
Grace (to policeman): Is Mrs. Reynolds in there?
Policeman (nods): Along with several officers from the prison. >From what I can gather it is some form of house-warming.
Grace (back on microphone): Can I talk to Mrs. Reynolds please.
Sid: No. You've heard my demands. You have one hour before somebody gets it.
Grace: Damn it. He won't be reasoned with. We're going to have to try and stall him somehow.
Policeman: We could always give him what he wants.
Grace: I'm not beaten yet, we've got an hour. But we'd better organise a car just to be on the safe side.
Policeman: Right Sir.
Grace (to himself): I'm not giving up without a fight, you bastard!
Rodney is checking on the cells and when he opens Grandma's hatch she tells him to "Rack off".
Rodney: Who do you think you're talking to?
Grandma: Dunno. I 'Aven't worked out what the smell is yet.
Rodney: Stupid old bag!
Grandma: I'll take you on anyday.
Rodney: I'm really scared of a geriatric like you.
He shuts the hatch.
Grandma (shouts): You'll find out what a geriatric like me can do. I'll cut your tackle off!
Inside the house the clock is saying five past nine and everyone is getting nervous. Sid has gone in the kitchen but has locked all the doors.
Mervin: Do you think he'll carry out his threat?
Ann: I don't know. He seems a bit desperate, and he's already tried to kill me once so he won't think twice about doing it for real.
Joyce (getting hysterical): Oh, they've got to give him what he wants. Don't they realise our lives are at stake?
Pat: It's Grace don't forget. He's not going to worry about a small thing like that.
Ann: I don't know. He can be a bastard but he doesn't usually put people's lives at risk if he can help it.
Tristian: Well I hope for your sake that's true.
Sid returns with a can of beer. He waves the gun across the room and tells everyone to shut up.
Meg: I take it you're not really a solicitor then.
Sid: You're not just a pretty face are you?!
Ann: What's your connection with Roo Morgan?
Sid: You lot ask a lot of questions.
Pat: We're a very inquisitive bunch.
Sid: Too bloody inquisitive for my liking. Let's just say Roo was doing a job for me, but she let me down. Cynthia's not going to be too happy with her when she gets back.
Meg: Gets back!? You don't think they'd ever have her back at Wentworth now do you?
Sid: Oh sorry, did I forget to mention. That's another of my conditions, that Cynthia is given her old job back as governor.
Meg looks at Ann in horror. Then we see the clock and the time is ten past nine.
Derek Latham turns up at reception and asks Rodney if he can see Chrissie quickly. Rodney tells him it's too late for visitors and he'll have to come back in the morning.
Derek: But I just wanted to tell her that Brenda's come back with Elizabeth. She just took her on the spur of the moment. Oh please let me see her for a minute, she'll want to know.
Rodney: I'll see she's informed in the morning. Now if you don't mind I've got work to do.
Derek: Thanks for nothing. He leaves.
Marty arrives home with some cans of beer. He opens one and takes a sip. Then he turns the TV on to see a news flash of the siege. He soon realises that his mother is in there when they give Ann Reynolds' name as one of the hostages. He drops his drink, grabs his jacket and runs out of the door.
Rodney is in reception when the police ring him to give him the news. His face is one of shock. As soon as he puts the phone down, Catherine turns up in reception.
Rodney: I'm sorry, you're too late to visit anyone.
Catherine: I need to see Su O'Leary. It's urgent.
Rodney: You'll have to come back in the morning, and I suggest you have a wash before you come back.
Catherine: You bastard.
Rodney gets up and tries to push her out but she picks up a paperweight off the desk and strikes him over the head, knocking him unconscious. Then she steals his keys and runs into the prison. She reaches the cells and opens the hatch of Chrissie's cell. Chrissie sits up.
Chrissie: Who are you then?
Catherine: I need to see Su O'Leary. Can you tell me where she is?
Chrissie: She's in the hospital love. How did you get in here? 'Ere, are you her daughter?
Catherine: No. She's nothing to me. But I need to see her, and you're going to take me.
She starts to unlock the door.
Chrissie: I'm sorry love, but I ain't doing nothing to stuff up my parole. It's bad enough not knowing where my daughter is.
Catherine enters the cell. Chrissie is now stood up.
Catherine: If you take me to her then I'll help you find your daughter.
Chrissie: You couldn't help love. That bitch Brenda could've taken her anywhere.
Catherine (starts to cry): Please, I'm begging you.
Chrissie: Alright I'll take you, but you'll have to be quick. I don't want the screws catching me.
Chrissie plumps her covers up to make it look like she's in bed. Then they go, locking the door behind them.
On the way to the hospital, Chrissie asks Catherine what her relationship with Su is - but Catherine tells her she's nothing to her. Then Chrissie asks how she got in, and is told that she had to knock the screw out at reception. Chrissie chuckles at this, then she stops.
Chrissie: I could get out of here.
Catherine: But, I thought you said your parole was coming up.
Chrissie: What good's my parole if I haven't got my Elizabeth? Yeah, I could find Brenda myself, then me and Elizabeth can get the hell out of the country. Come on then, I'll show you where Su is then I'll leave you to it.
Catherine: Can't you just wait till you get out to find her?
Chrissie: That's days away, if the bastards let me out at all. Brenda could be miles away by then. No, I've got to do this.
Catherine: It's your life. Okay take me to Su.
Marty arrives at the scene of the siege and tries to get near the house. Grace comes over and tells him that the place is cordoned off.
Marty: My mother's in there.
Grace: I know. But believe me, you going in there will just make it worse. We're dealing with a madman here.
Marty: Have you tried talking with him?
Grace: Several times. He refuses to budge. He says he'll kill Mrs. Reynolds if we don't meet his demands by ten o'clock.
Marty (gets irate): But that's only twenty minutes away. You'll have to just do as he says.
Grace: We're willing to do our bit, but the trouble is he wants Cynthia Leach reinstated as governor of Wentworth and the department would rather risk their own staff's lives than agree to that.
Marty: Are you serious? Get me Janet Walsh on the phone, I'll talk to her.
Grace: Forget it, she won't listen - believe me we've tried. She says it's our job to get them out of there alive.
Marty: You've got to do something. I can't lose my mother as well. I can't lose her.
Inside the house the tension is rising as the clock says 9:47. Greg is hugging Karen, Meg is in Tristian's arms, Joyce is crying into Mervin's arms, and Ann, Pat and Wendy are just sat in silence. Sid is sat pointing a gun at them, and drinking another can of beer. Ann is sat on the floor and she suddenly notices he is getting drowsy, she nudges Wendy. Ann edges towards Sid but he wakes up and tells her to get back.
Outside, Marty comes up with a plan. If Grace keeps Sid busy by talking to him on the megaphone then he'll break in through the back. Grace says it's too dangerous but admits they're running out of time so he agrees. He starts to talk on the microphone and Sid comes to the window.
Sid: I'm not backing down. If you don't want your governor to get it then you'd better do as I say, and you've only got ten minutes to do it in.
Grace: Come on this is madness. You can have everything you want, except for Leach back as governor of Wentworth. What do you care about her for, she's not worth doing a stretch inside for is she?
Meg: He's right. She'd stab you in the back without hesitating.
Sid: Shut up, bitch. He hits her round the face as Marty enters through the back. Sid spots him and is about to fire when Mervin tells him not to be so stupid.
Mervin: Don't you realise you'd get life you silly man.
Joyce: Oh Mervin, you're so brave.
Sid looks at the clock and it says eight minutes to ten. Then he tells Marty to sit with the others. He points at Joyce.
Sid: He can take your place. I'm sick of your whining anyway.
Mervin: No! You can't kill my Joycie. Take me instead.
Sid: I'm not going to kill her. She can go, and thanks for volunteering to die - I wanted to save the governor for a bit longer anyway.
Joyce: No!
Sid: If you don't go I'll shoot him now.
Joyce: I won't let you kill my Mervin. She suddenly pushes Sid and he drops the gun on the floor. Tristian is about to pick it up but Sid steps on his hand. Tristian yells out in pain, and Sid picks the gun up.
Sid: OK you can stay then, but you had your chance. He pushes Joyce back over and Mervin catches her. Joyce starts crying into Mervin's arms but he says he'll be alright. The camera scans across all the scared faces in the room.
Grace: Dammit he must have caught Jackson. OK get the minister on the phone now.
Policeman: Right sir. Goes to his policecar.
Grace: I'll have you, you bastard if it's the last thing I do.
Policeman (from car): I'm through Sir.
Grace: Right!
Grace talks to the Minister and demands that he reinstates Leach as governor of Wentworth, at least until Bradshaw is behind bars. The Minister isn't coming across so Grace starts shouting. Suddenly a shot is heard and the policeman shouts to Grace.
Grace: Did you hear that Minister? I think you need a new governor now!
Su is talking to Sheila in the prison hospital about how she's going to fix Roo, when Catherine appears.
Su: Catherine! But I thought....
Catherine: You thought I was dead you mean? Well sorry to disappoint you.
Sheila: Hey come on, your mother's been worried sick.
Catherine: She's not my mother.
Su: You don't mean that.
Catherine: Yes I do. I've got my own family now, and you're not part of it.
Su: I'm sorry about what happened, I'll make it up to you though, I promise.
Catherine: How can you make up being raped? Or what about having drugs shoved down your throat? Answer me that!
Su (rages): Those bastards! I'll kill them I swear. Oh my God I'm so sorry love.
Catherine: Forget it. From now on you don't exist. See ya.
Catherine goes running out. Su goes to follow her but Sheila stops her.
Sheila: Leave her be, love. Give her time to calm down. She'll come round.
Su: No she won't, and I don't blame her. Because of me she got hooked on drugs, and has been kidnapped and raped. I swear to God Sheila, I am going to get out of here somehow, and I am going to kill those bastards if it's the last thing I do!
Chrissie passes Rodney in reception, and he is still unconscious. Then she runs out the corridor through to the outside, where she lies low until she reaches the fence. She starts to climb the fence but is seen by the security guard who tells her to get down, then he sounds the security alarm.
Su and Sheila hear the alarm and go running out of the door, thinking that Catherine has been caught. They can't get any further though, so go back in.
Sheila: It could have been somebody trying to escape.
Su: No. They've caught Catherine I know it. I'll never forgive myself if she ends up in here.
Catherine hears somebody coming and hides inside Chrissie's cell. An officer comes past and goes running to reception, where they find Rodney. Chrissie is brought back in by the security guard, who sees Rodney and calls an ambulance. The other officer has woken him up and he is now sat up.
Security Guard: Well you're really for it now aren't you?
Chrissie: I never done that. He was already lying there. You can't pin that on me.
Security Guard: I can't see anyone believing that story love. I suggest you lock this one up, I'll call the department.
The officer takes Chrissie to solitary, despite her protests. Rodney is still a bit out of it. The security guard phones the department.
Inside the house everyone is silent. Joyce is leaning over Mervin's dead body, and wailing. Sid kicks her away and takes the body outside.
Joyce: Oh my Mervin. He was so brave.
Meg: Come on Joyce, sit down. I can't believe he actually went through with his threat.
Karen: I wonder who's going to be next.
Greg: You mustn't talk like that Karen.
Karen: Well we have to assume the police aren't going to do anything, so therefore we're all going to die. One by one.
Sid: Shut it, the lot of you. Nobody's going to die. Not for another fifteen minutes anyway.
There is a sound of horror amongst the hostages.
Sid: I said shut it.
Ann: You're only making things worse for yourself.
Sid: How much worse can things be? But don't worry love, I've decided to keep you alive. It would be far more fun seeing you working underneath Cynthia for a change.
Ann: You don't seriously think the department will give in to your demands?
Sid: You'd better hope they do, or Wentworth will be severely under-staffed! Ann and Meg exchanged worried glances.
At the prison, Catherine comes out of the cell and makes her way to reception. She runs past the security guard, who is on the phone. Rodney tries to shout out but the words don't come out. The security guard puts the phone down and says the police are also on their way. Catherine has gone.
Roo shouts through her cell to Brenda.
Roo: Has someone escaped?
Brenda: I dunno. I can't hear nothing now.
Roo: If anyone's done a runner without telling me they won't know what's hit 'em.
Brenda: No-one would be that stupid surely.
Roo: They'd better not be. I'm top dog and no-one does anything without asking me first.
Grandma: Can't you lot shut up and let an old woman get some sleep.
Roo: Oh shut up you old bag.
Grandma: Shut up yourself.
Kath and Amanda's cell:
Amanda: Roo's not very happy. I wonder if anyone has escaped.
Kath: I wouldn't blame anybody for wanting to escape from this dump.
Amanda: Nobody's allowed to escape without asking Roo first.
Kath: Listen Spencer. I couldn't care less about Morgan, as far as I'm concerned Su is top dog.
Amanda: Roo wouldn't be too happy to hear you talking like that.
Kath: As I said, I couldn't care less. And from now on I'm not paying any protection money either.
Amanda: You saw what happened to Sheila when she refused. She got burnt.
Kath: Don't you worry about me. Roo will get what's coming to her, and so will you.
Amanda looks worried.
Janet Walsh enters reception to find Sue Bailey there.
Janet: Right, what's been going on then?
Sue: Well I've only just got in myself. Officer Long didn't know who else to phone. Mr. Adams went off with the ambulance.
Janet: This is what happens when I leave Mrs. Reynolds to run things her way. Well there are going to be a few changes here I can promise you that.
Sue: I hardly think you can blame Mrs. Reynolds. Is there any news by the way?
Janet: Not yet, but I'm expecting it to be over very soon.
Sue: Oh?
Janet: Yes. I've agreed to reinstate Cynthia Leach as governor.
Grace is in the car with the policeman.
Grace: Have you managed to find Leach yet?
Policeman: No. She wasn't where we found Bradshaw, and she's not at her home.
Grace: Dammit, we have to find her. Bradshaw won't leave the house until he hears it from her.
Policeman: Have there been any more shootings?
Grace: No, he's agreed to hold off for a couple of hours while we find Leach.
Policeman: That's something I suppose.
Grace: It's not much comfort for them in there though, and then knowing they've got to go back and work under that sadistic bitch.
Inside Meg is comforting Joyce, who is still in a state of shock.
Meg: Can't you let her go, you've got enough hostages haven't you?
Sid: Shut up. I say if I've got enough hostages or not.
Ann: But you were going to let her go earlier.
Sid: She had her chance. Now just shut up the lot of you.
Joyce: I hope they throw the book at you, you bastard. Lunges at Sid. Sid hits her round the face and she falls.
Greg: You miserable coward. That's all you're good for isn't it, hitting women.
Sid: I'll show you what I'm good for. Opens window and starts shouting.
Sid: Okay there's too many hostages and they're doing my head in.
Meg (whispers to Joyce): He's going to let you go.
Joyce: I don't care.
Sid (to Greg): Over here!
Sid (out of window): Okay, the next hostage will die in ten seconds if I haven't got what I want.
He points the gun at Greg's head. Karen screams.
Grace is about to get back on his megaphone when another shot is heard............................
