PREVIOUSLY.......................................

Amanda goes back to her cell and pulls her shoe out of her locker to check the money. She realises it has gone and throws the shoe on the floor in temper.

Su goes into her cell and sees Grandma has left her bed in a mess. She mutters "Stupid cow" as she picks up her cardigan. Then she opens the wardrobe door and shrieks as Sheila's body falls out - her throat obviously cut.

Roo is walking towards the library, but someone is following her. She gets to the library and realises it is in darkness. She reaches for the light, but somebody stabs her in the shoulder. Roo grabs the person's arm and grabs the knife off her, then stabs the mystery person. Just then the light comes on. Roo turns round and see Rodney has just walked in and is looking at the floor shocked. Roo turns round and sees Grandma lying on the floor with a knife in her chest...................................

EPISODE 767

Su goes back to the recroom and slumps herself down on a chair. Kath, Chrissie and Karen are the main ones present.

Karen: Are you alright Su?

Su: No, I'm not. It's Sheila.

Chrissie: Oh who's she lagged on now then?

Su: She's dead.

There are gasps all around.

Kath: Dead! You mean murdered?

Su: That's right. She had her throat slashed and her body was in my locker.

Chrissie: You think it was the slasher?

Su: Whoever it was, I'm going to find out, and by God they're going to pay. I warned everyone not to touch her.

Inspector Grace is in Meg's office.

Grace: So we have 2 murders you say?

Meg: Yes. Sheila Blake and Hilda Chubb.

Grace: And you say this Roo Morgan is the main suspect.

Meg: She was caught red-handed stabbing Chubb, by one of our officers.

Grace: Ah yes, Mr. Adams. I'll be wanting to see him. Where's this Morgan now?

Meg: She was taken to solitary.

Grace: Well I think I'll start with her.

Rodney is talking to Roo in solitary.

Rodney: So you thought you could slash me and get away with it did you?

Roo: It wasn't me I tell you. It was that silly Grandma bitch, she tried to kill me too.

Rodney: And you acted in self-defence?

Roo: That's right. You've gotta tell the cops that.

Rodney: You're a liar Morgan, and you're going to pay for what you did to me, I can promise you that.

Rodney shuts the spy-hole and leaves Roo shouting and protesting her innocence. Cindy starts shouting from the next cell, Rodney opens her spy-hole.

Rodney: Shut up Simpson.

Cindy: When am I going to be let out of here?

Rodney: If I have my way, never. Now just shut it.

Cindy: I've got a right to be let out of here.

Rodney: You've got no rights Simpson. You're scum like the rest of them, and soon I'm going to be deputy governor and then you'll all have to toe the line.

He shuts the spy-hole and walks off with a smirk on his face.

Judy answers the door of her house and Helen Smart is stood there.

Judy: Helen, what a nice surprise. Come in why don't you.

Helen: Thanks Jude. Actually I need a favour.

Judy: Sure, if I can.

Helen: I need to hide out here for a few days.

Judy: Who are you hiding from?

Helen: I've only gone and got myself a stalker.

Rodney goes into the governor's office and tells Meg that Roo is locked up. Janet Walsh is present.

Janet: I hear you caught Morgan red-handed.

Rodney: That's right. It was all in the line of duty.

Janet: Yes well, it's a shame you weren't there a few minutes earlier.

Rodney is put out by this.

Meg: Have you any idea why Chubb would have a large sum of money on her?

Rodney
(worried): Money? How much money?

Meg: Two grand.

Rodney
(feeling really sick now): No idea Mrs. Morris. Where's the money now?

Janet: The police have got it. She obviously obtained it illegally.

Meg: I don't understand it though, she'd had no visitors at all.

Janet: Unless she stole the money off Morgan and that's why she killed her.

Meg: Maybe. If that's the case then Morgan has a lot to answer for.

Rodney: Is there any news on the deputy governorship?

Meg: There will be an announcement later today. OK that will be all.

Rodney leaves.

Janet: There's something about that man I don't trust.

Meg: Yes. I think he thinks he's getting the deputy's job.

Janet: He's got no hope of promotion at the moment. have you decided on a deputy?

Meg: Yes. I'll announce it later when I've had chance to tell them.

Rodney finds Amanda alone in her cell. He is having a go at her.

Rodney: You stupid cow. Couldn't you have hidden it better?

Amanda: I thought I had, she must have been watching me.

Rodney: I have to get that promotion now. There's no way I can keep up repayments else, so you're going to have to help me.

Amanda: Why should I help you now?

Rodney: Because if you don't, I'll tell everybody you're the lagger.

Amanda: Well if I help you, you have to do me a favour.

Rodney: I don't have to do anything for you.

Amanda: It's in your interests too. I want you to get Karen off the hook for assaulting you.

Rodney: No way.

Amanda: Think about it. She's getting too suspicious, eventually the others will start listening to her.

Rodney: I'll look pretty bloody stupid changing my story now.

Amanda: It could go in your favour though, if they think you're mellowing a bit. You may have noticed but hard officers don't seem to get very far here.

Rodney: Perhaps you're right. OK I'll go and see Walsh right now.

Judy has made Helen a cuppa.

Judy: So this stalker, is it someone you know?

Helen
(nods): He's an ex-client. He wanted more than just a customer-pro relationship.

Judy: And you don't like him in that way?

Helen: No way! Besides, he started getting too obsessive. Now I just can't get rid of him, he keeps turning up at my flat.

Judy: Well you're welcome to stay here as long as you like.

Helen: Thanks. Are you sure Charlotte won't mind?

Judy: She'll be fine don't worry.

Outside somebody is watching them through the window.

Grace is questioning Roo in solitary.

Grace: Come on Morgan, why don't you make this easy on yourself. Admit you killed Chubb and Blake.

Roo: I only killed Grandma in self-defence I'm telling you. It was her who killed Sheila, and it was her who did the other stabbings too.

Grace: Do you expect me to believe that a 70 year old lady lifted a dead body all by herself and managed to push it into a wardrobe.

Roo: She must have done.

Grace: Bull! You're as guilty as hell.

Roo: Rack off you pig.

Grace: OK, but don't go making any plans for the next, say 30 years.

Rodney enters the governor's office and finds Meg in there with Pat Slattery.

Meg: OK Pat you may go. Yes Rodney what is it?

Rodney: I really wanted to speak to Miss Walsh.

Meg: Well she's not available at the moment.

Rodney: Oh, I suppose you'll do. I want to drop the charges against Karen Miller.

Meg
(surprised): Well. Why the sudden turnaround?

Rodney: I just thought that it was time I took a softer approach with the women.

Meg
(suspiciously): And what's brought this on?

Rodney: No reason.

Meg: Well I'm glad you've finally seen sense where Karen's concerned. I'll arrange things from here, and I expect she'll be released straight away.

Rodney: Thank you.

Grace is now in Su's cell.

Grace: So you found Blake's body I hear?

Su: That's right.

Grace: In your wardrobe of all places.

Su: Yep.

Grace: Was she a good friend of yours?

Su: We got on OK.

Grace: That's not how I heard it. I heard that you thought she'd lagged on you, and we all know how you lot deal with laggers, don't we?

Su shrugs her shoulders.

Grace (getting irate): I think you slit her throat to teach her a lesson.

Su: Think what you like. I never touched her.

Grace gets up.

Grace: I can see I'm wasting my time with you O'Leary. Don't worry though, I will be seeing you again.

Grace leaves and Su mutters "Bastard!"

Charlotte is signing into reception, and is talking to Wendy.

Charlotte: You knew Judy when she was inside then?

Wendy: Yes. She even worked with me in reception for a while.

Charlotte: Oh, so she's an old workmate then?

Wendy
(laughs): I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

Charlotte: Perhaps you'd like to come to ours for dinner one night.

Wendy: That would be lovely.

Charlotte: Tonight?

Wendy: Tonight would be great.

Just then a delivery man comes in with a massive bunch of flowers.

Man: Can I leave these with you? He gives them to Wendy then leaves.

Charlotte: Ooh, looks like you've got an admirer.

Wendy: I very much doubt they're for me.

She reads the card.

Wendy: No, they're for Mrs. Morris.

Charlotte: I was going to her office, I'll take them through if you like.

Meg is talking to Grace in her office.

Grace: I've no doubt that Morgan is guilty of both murders. I'd say she'll be an old woman before she gets out of here.

Meg: Are you charging her then?

Grace: Yes. She was caught red handed killing Chubb, and the same knife was used on Blake.

Meg: You don't believe Morgan's story of self-defence.

Grace: Nah! She's guilty alright. With Adams statement there's no doubt she'll get a hefty sentence added to her already hefty sentence.

Meg: So you won't be needing to speak to any of the other women?

Grace: Not about this, but I will be back in regards to another case.

Grace gets up and goes.

Meg: I can't wait.

There is a knock. Meg shouts "Come in", and Charlotte enters with the flowers.

Meg: Are they for me?

Charlotte: Yes. They're gorgeous.

Meg reads the card and looks shocked.

Charlotte: Are you alright Mrs. Morris?

Meg: Yes fine. What was it you wanted to see me about?

Charlotte: Lorna Young's been arrested again.

Meg: Oh no. What for this time?

Charlotte: Receiving stolen goods. She'll be coming back here I'm afraid.

Meg: Oh and I had such high hopes for her too.

Charlotte: Yes, but it does create another problem.

Meg: Oh God, Merle. What's going to happen to her now?

Charlotte: Is there any hope of Kath Maxwell getting that early release?

Meg: I'm sorry, I haven't had chance to look into it yet. We've had a busy time of it lately.

Charlotte: Yes, I understand, but it really is a matter of urgency now. Merle can't stay on her own and Judy and I don't have the time to look after her permanently.

Meg: Let me make a phone call quickly.

Meg picks up the phone.

Meg: Hello Margery, it's Meg Morris here....yes good thanks....I was wondering if you could look into a possible parole for me....no I'm not a prisoner now, I meant for one of the prisoners.....hahaha you don't change do you.....yes its a Kath Maxwell, in for killing her child....you remember the case?....yes but there was a lot more to it than that, the child was sick and in constant pain....could you? It really is a matter of urgency...thank you...yes we'll have to get together for a game of bridge again...bye.

Meg comes off the phone.

Charlotte: Any luck?

Meg: If anyone can fix it Margery can.

Charlotte: How soon do you think we'll know?

Meg: A couple of days probably. Will Merle be alright in the meantime?

Charlotte: Yes I should think so. Is it alright if I tell Kath?

Meg: I don't see why not, but don't get her hopes up too much. The parole board could still turn her down you know.

Charlotte: Oh I won't. I'll be very subtle.

Charlotte leaves and Meg gets on the phone again after reading the note on the flowers one more time.

Meg: Hello Tristian. The answer's yes. I'd love to marry you...

Charlotte goes into the recroom and goes over to Kath, who is sat reading. Su is playing cards with Karen and Chrissie, but keeps looking over at Charlotte.

Chrissie: You've really got the hots for her, haven't you?

Su: Don't be stupid Chrissie. Just lay your card will you.

Karen: You know she's spoken for don't you?

Su: Oh just rack off you lot.

Su storms out. Kath gets out of her chair and hugs Charlotte. Charlotte notices Su leave and says her goodbyes to Kath.

Charlotte notices Su in her cell, slumped on the bed.

Charlotte: You left very quickly.

Su: I was getting fed up with the company.

Charlotte: Listen Su, I'm not meant to be here, but if I've done something to upset you....

Su: Upset me? You haven't got the faintest idea have you?

Charlotte: Tell me then.

Su: I'll show you.

Su kisses Charlotte on the lips. Charlotte pulls away at first, and then kisses Su back for a few seconds before pulling off again.

Charlotte: I'm sorry I shouldn't have done that.

Su: yes you should. Don't worry, nobody will find out.

They start to kiss again. Amanda peeps around the door.

Meg has called a meeting of staff in the staffroom. Marty, Rodney, Pat, Sue Bailey and a couple of non-speaking officers are present. Meg explains that a few of the officers will be moved to other wings.

Meg: Now. Since Joyce has taken extended leave, I've had to decide on a new deputy governor for H-Block.

Rodney stands smiling, obviously expecting to be picked.

Meg: Pat Slattery has agreed to step in, so I'm sure you will all give her your full support.

There are echoes of "Congratulations". Rodney just scowls.

Pat: Thank you everybody.

Meg: There is one more thing. Mr. Jackson has been made up to senior officer status.

Rodney: Well there's favouritism for you.

Meg: I beg your pardon.

Marty: Give it a rest Rodney.

Rodney: It's obvious you only chose him for promotion because he's your son.

Meg: Actually it was Janet Walsh who decided on the promotion, so I'd be very careful what I say if I were you. OK that will be all everybody.

Everybody leaves except Meg, Marty and Rodney.

Meg: Now I know you two have had your differences, but I expect you to work together professionally.

Rodney: This place is a joke.

Rodney storms out, leaving Meg and Marty looing at each other in bemusement.

Charlotte is signing out at reception, and she reminds Wendy she is coming to dinner tonight. Wendy says she'll be there around seven. Rodney storms past them both and signs out, before leaving the building.

Charlotte: He was in a good mood.

Wendy: Yes.

Marty brings Cindy to Su's cell and tells Su she'll be sharing with her. He tells Cindy to make her bed and leaves. Cindy sits on the bed.

Su: Hadn't you better do as he says?

Cindy: What's it to you?

Su: Nothing. Except I'm top dog in here and I don't want any trouble.

Cindy: God this place has really gone to the dogs. Well listen lady, I don't take orders off no-one, and I don't recognise you as top dog. OK?

Su: You've got a right chip on your shoulder haven't you. Well I'm not wiping your nose for you kid, if you get in trouble for not making your bed then its your look-out.

Su gets up and goes out.

Cindy: Wimp.

Su arrives in the rec-room just as Karen is being taken out by Sue Bailey.

Su: What's going on?

Karen: I'm being released. Rodney must have dropped the assault charges.

Su: Yeah? Well what do you know. Maybe he has got a conscience after all. Good luck love.

All the women say their goodbyes as Karen is led off.

Chrissie: Looks like I'm going to need another new cellmate now.

Su: Well you can have mine if you like.

Chrissie: Why who have you got?

Su: That kid who escaped before I came in. Cindy wasn't it?

Kath: Cindy Simpson! Don't tell me they've caught up with her at last. She's real trouble that one.

Su: Well she'll only push me so far.

Amanda goes into Cindy's cell.

Cindy: What the hell do you want?

Amanda: I've got a proposition for you.

Cindy: Rack off. I'm not doing nothing for you.

Amanda: Even if there's some dope in it for you?

Cindy: You've got nothing in here.

Amanda: Not yet, but I expect to be getting some in very soon. I want you to sell it for me, for a share of the profit.

Cindy: Alright.

Amanda: The only thing is, you mustn't let on that you're working for me. I've worked very hard to get on the right side of O'Leary and her gang, and I don't want nothing stuffing that up.

Cindy: You don't like O'Leary then?

Amanda: No, I think she's a bit of a joke really. All the same, it might be best if you keep away from her and her mates. Just see if you can sell to some of the quieter ones for now.

Cindy: What about Morgan?

Amanda: Oh I doubt she'll be coming back to this block, she's just murdered two of the women here. Anyway, see ya later.

Meg is just arriving home as Tristian is finishing a phone conversation.

Meg: Who was that?

Tristian: That, my lovely, was my son Adrian.

Meg: Oh yes, you told me about him, he's in the navy right?

Tristian: yes, and he's coming home for the wedding.

Meg: But we don't know when the wedding is yet do we?

Tristian: Well I sort of thought about 2 weeks.

Meg: 2 weeks!? But there's too much to organise, and I'm busy with work and everything.

Tristian: Calm down dear. You just leave everything to me. Now is it alright if Adrian stays here for a couple of days?

Meg: Yes of course, Marty won't mind him sharing his room.

Tristian: Good, that's settled. Now lets have a drink to celebrate.

Judy, Helen, Charlotte and Merle are all sat around Judy's dining room. They are wondering where Wendy has got to.

Judy: Are you sure she said seven? It's nearly half past.

Charlotte: Positive. We'll give her a few more minutes then we'll start.

Merle: I'm hungry. I could eat a giant horse.

Helen: Are you sure its alright for me to stay here Charlotte?

Charlotte: yes of course. Any friend of Judy's and all that. Now where is Wendy?

Judy: Are you alright love? You seem a little stressed tonight.

Charlotte: yes I'm fine. I just don't want the food to get cold. Oh come on let's eat.

Merle: Goody.

Outside we see a shadow looking at them all through the window.

Chrissie has got a visit from Mick, they are discussing Rodney.

Chrissie: Why hasn't he dropped the charges then? I thought you said you put the wind up him.

Mick: I did. I can't understand it, perhaps he's got bigger things on his mind.

Chrissie: Well I don't wanna be stuck in here for years, while Elizabeth forgets who I am.

Mick: Don't worry Chrissie. I'll fix things, don't you worry.

Charlotte has entered reception. Pat Slattery is on the desk.

Charlotte: Morning. Is Wendy not on duty this morning?

Pat: She's supposed to be, but she hasn't shown up. Not even a phone call.

Charlotte: That's strange, she didn't turn up for dinner last night at ours either.

Pat: Inconsiderate I call it. I haven't got time to be on here all day, I've had to call Sally in, but she can't make it till twelve.

Charlotte: Maybe I'll try phoning Wendy. Do you have her number?

Pat: I've tried, more than once. There's no answer.

Charlotte: I'm sure there will be a reasonable explanation.

Pat: Well there'd better be.

Charlotte is walking down the corridor when she is met by Amanda.

Amanda: Hello Charlotte, how are we today?

Charlotte: Fine thank you. I've really got a lot to do though, so if you don't mind....

Amanda: Oh I don't mind. Off to see O'Leary are you?

Charlotte: What?

Amanda: I saw the two of you kissing yesterday. Be a shame if Judy found out.

Charlotte: What do you want?

Amanda: I want you to visit a friend of mine. Here's his address.

She passes her a slip of paper.

Amanda: I'll arrange for him to have a parcel ready for you. All you have to do is bring it in with you tomorrow.

Charlotte: No way. I'm not bringing drugs in.

Amanda: Relax, it's not drugs. It's just perfume and stuff for the girls.

Charlotte: How do I know that?

Amanda: You'll just have to trust me. Now here's the money, and don't get caught. Oh, and don't tell O'Leary, or I might just have to let Judy know what you've been up to.

Amanda goes off, leaving Charlotte looking very worried.

Meg walks in her office to find Janet Walsh at her desk, talking to a man in his late forties, very muscly and hard looking.

Janet: Ah Mrs. Morris. This is Les Murray. He'll be running J-Block as of next week.

Meg: Pleased to meet you.

They shake hands.

Les: The pleasure's all mine.

Janet: The first batch of six prisoners will be arriving next monday, and Roo Morgan will also be joining them in the new wing.

Meg: Well I can't say I'll be sorry to see her go, she's been nothing but trouble since she got here.

Les: I'll soon whip her into shape.

Janet: Here's a list of the other six who will be arriving monday.

She passes Meg a piece of paper. Meg reads it then looks up with a look of horror on her face.

Meg: You've got to be joking.

Su is in the interview room with Inspector Grace.

Su: You're wasting your time Gracey. I don't know anything about Sheila's murder, and you can't prove a thing.

Grace: Oh, I wouldn't get too confident. Maybe you should pick associates who don't break down under questioning.

Su
(confused): I don't know what you're going on about.

Grace: Well Joyce Pringle isn't the hardest nut to crack. She told me how she helped you escape so you could fix Leach.

Su: Bull!

Grace: It's your neck, but if you tell your side of the story it could go easier on you.

Su: You know what she did to my daughter.

Grace: So you took the law into your own hands and killed her.

Su: Well wouldn't you have done the same?

Grace: It doesn't matter what I'd do, you've just admitted to killing someone for revenge.

Su: Well if Joyce had kept her mouth shut.

Grace: Joyce?

Su: Yeah, you said she told you everything.

Grace gets up to go.

Grace: Did I say that? I really must learn not to tell lies.

Su: You bastard.

Grace: Now I have a full confession out of you, I'll easily get one out of Pringle. You'll be charged with murder and Pringle will be charged with accessory to murder.

He is escorted out of the door by a background officer.

Grace: Oh, don't leave the country, I'll be needing to speak with you again.

He leaves and Su chucks a chair across the room in anger......................................................................
