Son of Myra Desmond and responsible for trying to look after sister Kay following his mother's prison sentence.
Alan is first seen accompanying Myra to Driscoll House in episode 429. They realise that the house needs someone to assist running it so Myra decides to temporarily get things back in order with the assistance from Alan - who generates a lot of interest from the female residents.
When Myra escapes from prison to try and save Kay from a life of drug addiction, Alan is around to help her and brings her some clothes to help disguise her on the outside (episode 461). Myra realises the danger she's placing Alan in so tries to keep their meetings as low key as possible.
Alan's last appearance is at Myra's funeral in episode 556.
