ALICE JENKINS played by Lois Collinder
Originally a background prisoner for a large number of episodes Alice's first credited appearance is during episode 452 when she and fellow inmate Lou Kelly are seen bashing Hannah Geldschmidt. Alice begins life as a heavy or stooge for the top dog's enemy but eventually has more appearances and storylines of her own.
Again as Lou's sidekick, she is next seen during Myra Desmond's 40th birthday party (episode 512) as her and Lou plot to electrocute their top dog but tragically their fellow prisoner Sam Greenway ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and dies instantly. Having thought that they have gotten away with the murder it all comes tumbling down on Alice when Jan Grant lags on her in retaliation for Alice selling her some toxic polish which she made Jan think was alcohol. Alice gets an additional 10 years for Sam's death and slowly begins to realise that being on the bad side of the team is never a good idea.
A number of episodes later when Rita Connors arrives, Alice and Lou try and take on Rita as they think she's getting too big for her boots. Lou Kelly wants to be top dog but feels that Rita's in her way so they decide to give her a beating. It doesn't work - Alice and Lou are no match to Rita, who makes mincemeat out of them both. Defeated again, Alice starts to change her ways and warms to Rita when Lou escapes and kills Alice's mother and brother (episodes 612-613). When Lou later returns to Wentworth, Alice tries to kill her but without success. Not long after this, Lou is found dead in her cell - another inmate has got to her. This pleases Alice who feels like she is now free to be friends with whoever she wants. Rita and the Warriors eventually accept Alice into their gang.
Towards the end of the series, Rita is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Alice has become best friends with Rita and nurses her through the bad times. For once, Alice even has a love interest of her own - in the form of Harry Grosvenor who is a male prisoner from Blackmoor. They grow closer and closer until Harry is transferred to Woodridge prison. They promise to wait for eachother until they are both out. In the meantime, Alice will look after Rita and help her see out her final days.
