 JULIE EGBERT
Played by Jackie Woodburne
Julie is transferred to Wentworth in episode 537 after the fire which Bea Smith died in. Although at first she appears to be a bit of a freak with a crazy laugh (which got her the nickname 'Chook') she later becomes very good mates with Lexie Patterson who she shares a cell with for most of her time inside.
Julie is a very intelligent young lady but doesn't like the other women knowing of this but sometimes lets slip some of the facts and figures which she knows about.
During the Ballinger seige, Julie climbs through the prison air contitioning system to the Governor's office where she makes the crucial phonecall to inform the police outside what they are facing when they come into the prison to take control. She is badly injured during the seige and is almost beaten to death by another prisoner who goes too far when Lou Kelly tells her to teach Julie a lesson.
It is from this moment that Julie and prison handyman Steve Ryan become good friends. They immediately fall in love with eachother and plan to get married. However Steve's mother has other ideas when she finds out that her son is planning to marry an inmate. She blackmails Joan into arranging a longer sentence for Julie.
However, this doesn't stop Julie and Steve from declaring their love to eachother. They are married inside Wentworth and Julie is transferred to Barnhurst in episode 628 to finish off her sentence. Although we don't hear from Julie or Steve again, we believe that they lived 'happily ever after'.
