Kate PetersonKATE PETERSON
Played by Olivia Hamnett

Dr Kate Peterson is sent to Wentworth for murdering her lover, Conrad. She first appears with fellow prisoner Sandy Edwards in episode 235.

Kate is a very intellectual character who is at first looked up to by her other inmates. Her experience in medicine proves invaluable to them all in times of medical attention, especially when a nurse or officer is not on hand. However 'the good doctor' slowly turns bad, turning into a devious and cunning person who doesn't care if she hurts any of her fellow prisoners in the process.

During Bea Smith's time in hospital for kidney failure (which Dr Kate had diagnosed), she finds out that Kate should not be trusted and needs to get back to Wentworth as soon as she can in order to warn top dog Sandy Edwards - who is already suspicious about Kate.

Sandy knows that there is a lagger in the prison who has been telling the police about the laundry racket which had been set up but isn't sure that Kate is the culprit until Bea tells her. Kate is involved in allsorts of wrong-doings whilst inside - she even blackmails Colleen Powell into organising extra visits for her, in return for gossip about the other women. Sandy tries to kill Kate (episode 264) but it doesn't work and Kate is still inside safe and well - if not beginning to go a bit loopy!

Kate quickly goes insane and is transferred to a mental hospital (episode 273) after trying to kill her cell mate Judy Bryant in one of Wentworth's most memorable scenes.
