PIXIE MASON Played by Judy McBurney
Pixie is sent to Wentworth in episode 379 for getting married just too many times! She loves the idea of marriage and has a rather alarming fixation in weddings - we find out that she's married to 4 men all at the same time and could be married to another 2!
Another source of comedy during the series, Pixie is a favourite with fans and even tries to convince the officers that she has lost her memory but doesn't do that good a job because she is sentenced to five years inside for her crime. Still in love with the idea of being in love, she writes herself an ad in a newspaper lonely hearts page and gets a huge response from possible husbands! She picks a selection of responses and gets them all to visit her in Wentworth (episode 402) although one of her visitors is a newspaper journalist who sees this as an excellent story to use in his paper.
Pixie, whilst on the outside with Meg Morris for an interview, finds herself her perfect job in a Bridal Boutique and meets her next prospective husband, Ralph, there during her time on work release. Ralph convinces Pixie that she has been released from the prison when he abducts her (episode 427) and even signs a card from Colleen Powell congratulating them on their engagement.
It is not long before Pixie is captured and sent back to prison again to finish off the rest of her sentence. During her time inside her best friend Judy Bryant falls in love with her and although Pixie doesn't realise this until later on Judy has written a song about her - "Pixie's Song". When Pixie finds the lyrics (episode 488) she finds it difficult to understand how Judy feels about her but slowly appears to come to terms with it.
Pixie is brutally raped by Franke Burke (episode 510) in the prison library. Myra Desmond, the top dog, painfully uses this as a way of framing officer Len Murphy and getting him sacked. It works, much to the horror of Judy who can't believe that her best friend is being used like this. Pixie never recovers from her ordeal with Franke and is transferred to a mental hospital after the incident.
Judy Bryant and fellow inmate Sheila Brady put music to the words of Pixie's Song and they are both released. The song is played over the closing credits of episode 520 - the only time when the original theme tune is not used to close the series.
