 SONIA STEVENS

The 'Ice Lady' Sonia Stevens makes her first appearance in episode 394 for drug pushing but on the advice of prison Governor Ann Reynolds tells the other women that she's inside for blackmailing a politician. Her cover is blown two episodes later when fellow inmate prostitute Helen Smart recognises her and informs the other women that she is very well known on the prostitute scene for supplying drugs and that she's the wife of police officer Eddie Stevens who is the reason that a number of the women are on the inside.
After a few run-ins with the other women and an escape attempt, it becomes clear that Sonia is to become Wentworth's next bad girl and conspires with Joan Ferguson to get rid of Bea Smith forever. They both frame her in the Recroom and Bea is later transferred to Barnhurst - Sonia takes over as top dog (episode 400) but doesn't last for too long. She is surprisingly toppled by Minnie Donovan who makes her drink all of the booze she has made, and is selling to the others. This works and Minnie takes over, with the help of Cass Parker.
Sonia becomes the victim of a number of attempts on her life during episodes 418 to 427. It begins with her hand cream being mixed with ground glass, which leaves her with bad injuries to her fingers. She is later stabbed in the back with a piece of broken mirror and then (episode 425) is almost strangled with the wire of her electric kettle. The person responsible is 'blind' inmate Belinda Johns. Sonia is attacked by Belinda in the library with a spanner when the lights have been switched off (episode 427) but survives when Belinda realises she can't go through with it.
New officer Rick Manning signals a change in storyline for Sonia when we find out that her husband worked with Rick in the police force and was the reason for Rick leaving. Sonia begins to start going a little bit crazy and we later find out that, during a conversation with new top dog Myra Desmond, she lost her baby when she was punched in the stomach by her lover while she was heavily pregnant. We see another side to Sonia when evil Joan Ferguson who had overheard the conversation plants a blood stained toy doll on Sonia's bed.
Following more storylines about Sonia's husband, who has since faked his death in order to try and track down two bent police officers, Sonia finds out that she's going to 'escape' from Wentworth. During her transfer journey from Wentworth to Barnhurst with inmate Bobbie Mitchell the driver pulls a gun out on them both and they are driven away - kidnapped by yet another policeman who is going to use Sonia as bait to get Eddie into contacting her. Bobbie is used as a prostitute working in Sydney under the instructions from Sonia and her capturers. It all appears to be going well until Joan Ferguson spots Bobbie in Sydney while she is visiting there and is sent back to Wentworth. The last we see of Sonia is after she's tricked Joan into escaping from her - Sonia's car is parked at the top of a cliff and it looks like Sonia's thinking of jumping... however we never find out. Her car is found with a bullet hole in the windscreen but Sonia has disappeared for good.
